You're a fecking moron if your opinion is anything other than this is a chronically underperforming side not making the most of their most talented players.

What happened to whatever he was doing with his finger pointing? Can he quickly get to that happy place again please?

I would've honestly sat him down to the many clips where he is not going to challenge for the ball, does not track back, pulls out of 50/50's, does not run after his man after he gives the ball away, and I would honestly ask him to explain his thought process, why is he deciding not to fight for his hometown team?
And it should be filmed too. I wouldn't be surprised if he got up and walked out because it's never his fault is it.

You're a fecking moron if your opinion is anything other than this is a chronically underperforming side not making the most of their most talented players.

Utter utter bollocks. Him not being arsed to do the bare minimum whilst moaning at everyone else while they're doing exactly what he should be doing has nothing to do with anything or anyone other than Rashford himself. Stop making excuses for him, he should be giving 100% every time he plays for us yet I doubt if we're actually seeing 50%, plus the fact he's on £350000 a fecking week to just kick a bag of wind about. Watch Rasmus or even Anthony and the difference in attitude is astounding.
He should be showing the youngsters what it means to play for us not sulking and blaming everyone else but himself.
Anthony is shit but he always grafts and he's had dogs abuse for at least 18 months but he always tries and how must he feel with the alleged SA hanging over him yet he's putting twice as much effort in than Rashford is who's been given everything.

His defenders are using a lot of strawman arguments. No one is angry Marcus Rashford is. It scoring 30 goals. People are angry at Marcus Rashford for going on the pitch and walking his way through games. There’s a massive difference.

His defenders usually reply by saying things like: "he is not lazy, it is tactical instruction for him not to waste his energy chasing lost causes so that he has energy to score when the moment arrives" even though that tactical instruction seemingly doesn't work since his scoring ratio is lower than energy wasting midfield players like McTominay and Casemiro, not to mention Hojlund and Garnacho who pressed well.

Some of his defenders also resort to ad hominem arguments like "you are just a nobody random fan, come back to criticise him when you have achieved 1% of what he has achieved"

welcome to the age of social media

I think you're a fecking moron if you cannot see that his return to form (because last year was the anomaly of his career) had a direct correlation with the signing of that new contract.

Maybe he can start running in the pitch instead of walking around like a homeless in a park ? His body language is like he's forced to eat shit every time before the game starts. And dont forget he's the highest paid player in the club. I have seen minimum wage workers put more effort in flipping burgers compared to current rashford.

Season 19-20 scored more goals per game than the 'anomaly' of last season.

People who are not fecking morons can make their points less confrontationally.

Year 2028, some braindead manchester united fans still reminisce Rashford's 30 goal season that took place in 2023.

Played well vs Forest, closed down as best he could.

I still think he needs a fresh start at PSG I think it'll be good for him.

Also he was offered life changing money to move . Personally I think 10 grand month (after tax) is life changing money, 350k a week! Joker.

Great players perform every season, simple as that. You don't have to go back and select several month periods to argue their case because they prove themselves consistently. Rashford is not a great player and never will be.

At his best he's a selfish but fairly effective kick and run winger. At his worst he's a lazy disgrace who thinks he's the dogs bollocks. Either way he's not the sort of player you place into a team aspiring to win the big trophies.

The imbeciles responsible for handing out contracts at the club have fecked us over yet again.

This is pretty harsh imo. At his best he's a decent dribbler, he's very pacy, can show decent interplay and a good finisher. At his best he's scary to face.

Just out of interest, which top great level player performed consistently through every season even when their team mates were way below par arguably around the top 6-4 teams of the league?

Interesting take. There's room for disagreement, but apart from injuries and poor signings by ETH (apart from Martinez) Rashford is at least to me clearly the top reason why our season has been in free fall. We all knew it would take time for Hojlund and Onana to adapt to the PL so fair play to them for finally hitting top gear in February. But Rashford has no excuses for being as poor as he's been this season and unlike Maguire and Wan-Bissaka we had every reason to have high expectations of Rashford this season. Antony has been a disastrous signing but we already knew that at the end of last season. Garnacho is still a teenager. We needed and expected Rashford to perform like a footballer in his prime and he's been anything but that. We can blame his performances on other, but at the end of the day footballers have to be held accountable for their performances and we can't start excusing players because of other players performing poorly.

When Rashford is 1v2 and tries to drive through them and fails instead of looking for the pass that failure is on him and not on Maguire or Bruno or Casemiro.
Watch the match tomorrow and see how many times you think Rashford makes the wrong decision and do the same for each of our other midfielders/forwards. I’d be very surprised if you find he’s out of line with the rest of them. My own impression is that he actually makes the right choice more regularly than any of our other attacking players.

I also don’t follow the suggestion that Rashford is the main reason for our problems this season. It’s obviously the midfield. Rashford (as with most top wide forwards) thrives if you can either get him the ball early, so the defence isn’t set up and he can run at a defender before they can double up on him, or if he has a midfield who can pick out the clever runs he makes off the ball. This is what we did really well last season, and it got him into positions where his talent could do the rest.

This season, we’ve been incredibly laboured at progressing the ball up the pitch (despite ETH saying he intended to be a top transition team) and, at the same time, have generally had no control of matches. It’s why all our forwards have struggled badly - I don’t rate Antony but the fact he has zero goals or assists should tell you something about how hard we have made it for our attackers. Could Rashford have done better? Sure, he’s clearly let his head go down at times but he is most definitely not the main reason we are struggling.

Rashford has passed the threshold of most supporters' patience and the tides have turned against him. The money and fame he gets are disproportionate to his talent, ability and application, the most normal thing is for fans and media to criticize him.

This interview/article has backfired and put him in the spotlight against City in the worst moment when he is out of form and they are probably gonna win easy.
Unless he rediscovers his form quickly starting from tomorrow, I can see a steep fall from grace.

If he doesn't play well it's always someone else's fault. The mark of a truly great player. He's simultaneously the best player we have and also if we don't play well it's the fault of everyone else on the pitch, the manager, the subs, the right wing press and social media.

It's astonishing how a player who has this machine behind him tries to spin "his workrate is poor" into some kind of persecution.

Who recalls the time he decided to pick playing for England over United, going on holidays thus delaying a surgery he required meaning he missed the first 2/3 months of the season with recovery?

His priority is anyone but himself I'm afraid.

Have we found the "leak" with this interview/PR piece?

Some of the others who were highlighted have fallen by the wayside, eg Lingard, Sancho, Pogba

Fair points but missing an important piece of context — expectations.

We’re all in agreement I believe that Antony is a flop and that at the end of last season almost all of us were asking WTF re Antony. That he’s continued to be appalling this season is indisputable but our expectations were low. But expectations for Rashford were vastly higher and he’s come nowhere close to meeting those expectations.

Of our attacking players the one we had every reason to have high expectations for was not Antony, not Martial, not Sancho, not Hojlund, not Garnacho, not Greenwood and not Diallo. Rashford was expected to be the anchor, the focal point of our attack. He was the player we had every reason to expect top performances by virtue of his performances last season and his experience in the PL and with the club.

We can find plenty of excuses for Rashford’s performances this season and I’m sure some will be valid, but it cannot be denied that he’s had an extremely disappointing season. He’s performed nowhere close to all reasonable expectations. His lackadaisical demeanor on the pitch is troubling.

Perhaps with the Euros coming up he might find a new gear tomorrow, but that he’s been in first gear all season is difficult to deny.

We will have to disagree. He started the season well, had a dip, and has been playing well over the last couple of months (at least when playing LW, I haven’t seen his last two matches upfront).

What you seem to be ignoring is that all attackers, even those as good as Rashford, rely on service. He doesn’t get any from our CF or RW, our midfield is a mess and the only left back we have capable of supporting him has spent 80% of the season injured. On top of that, our players (other than Rashford and Bruno) can’t stay fit and he keeps having to switch position purely because we have no other options.

Could Rashford do better mentally? Absolutely, there’s been times when you can see him getting down when he makes yet another great run only for the ball not to reach him. Has his actual performance over the season been as bad as portrayed on here? Absolutely not. He’s a victim of our dreadful footballing structure this season, not the cause.

And had to take the bus as a kid, poor guy :(
Considering there are two buses, the 101 and 103, that go to town directly from Wythenshawe, I have to call bullshit on that part of his statement. No way he took 5 or 6 buses to get to the cliff.

I was thinking about this earlier, I might be wrong but didn't he grow up in Northern Moor? it's 5mins walk from Northenden, and Princess Parkway there's always been regular buses to town round there, its not too far either.

I just don't get him.

We as United fans being what we are, would applaud him if only he'd be giving it all on the pitch, challenged for headers, improved bodylanguage etc even if he couldn't score to save his life.

It's United, not fecking Madrid who boo the shit out of you if you have a goal drought of two fan games. And he's a homegrown talent which wins him a ton of extra love points as well.

So why does he opt for this ultra moronic PR shit time after time instead of things he has full control of, like challanging for a fecking header??

Yep, you are correct. And then there's many buses to get to salford from town.

I dont think he realises how much his half-hearted efforts iritates fans. Its the one thing that fans dont forgive or forget. He does not seem to have the ability to do self-evaluation. Or to comprehend why so many fans are starting to turn on him.

There was an away game earlier in the season, where he was by a country mile the worst player on the pitch, and he rightly got subbed off. He started throwing gloves while on the bench, angry because he got substituted. He is so detached from what is actually going on, to what he actually think is happening.

He's done his 'performance' already so he'll be feeling good about himself now that he's had his say. His completely ineffectual walking around and fleeing from any sign of physical danger in the match tomorrow won't worry him.

Actually, it'll be interesting to see what he does tomorrow. If he's suddenly running and tackling and tracking back and trying to make good passes, then that just proves that everyone was right in saying he has been dicking around.

If he continues being completely useless then that just makes his statement look ridiculous.

Seems he's gone full on Ronaldo. No running back, sulk on the pitch, explosive interview, not applaud fans after the game

I don't despise that sort of player. I'm a United fan - our fortunes have been pretty low recently, so I appreciated a badge thumping cardio specialist. I just know not all players play the game like that and it isn't/shouldn't necessarily turn into an indictment of their characters with personal attacks and some of the madness in this thread. I do think Rashford should be dropped or even sold.

There are multiple reports of Rashford playing through injury for Ole (some stating he did so for 11 months). Rashford is on record saying so. Ole is on record saying so.
As far as I can remember he did play the game like that until some time under Ole though. A myth seems to have developed in recent times that he was one of the bad eggs Jose wanted rid of, but that wasn’t the case at all; Jose only resisted calls for him to play as striker in place of a grossly out of condition Lukaku. He never questioned his attitude or application.

I do wonder whether his playing while not fully fit under Ole has made a long term contribution to his apparently lackadaisical demeanour. Maybe he no longer feels confident that his body is capable of delivering what it could previously.

It’s been far more than a dip in form for Marcus this season. Every player goes through a 2-3 match dip in form during a season, but throughout the season he’s been poor except for 1 or 2 matches where he’s put in solid performance, not a single performance when it could be argued he was top class. Based on current form he’s lucky to be starting for United.
