Shame about this stat, almost a decade is impressive record.

On the game: great goal by Rashford, then he had 2 huge chances to make it 2-0 and couldn't do it. After that we created nothing and when City equalised, it was clear they'll most probably win.

Even though they completely dominated us for most of the game, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Plenty of injuries too so we'd always struggle at City. I was pissed about Fulham loss, this one was always coming.

We'll have to find a way to beat Liverpool in the cup to keep our season alive basically.

Yeah, but we get utterly embarrassed against the better teams. We barely get a sniff.
agreed, it is a different feeling. in the games like versus luton when ETH is working with much much better players than the opposition, it is possible some individual piece of magic gets us in the driving seat. in games where the talent pool is more even we look divisions below their level.

Spent all afternoon with Arsenal fans at a party. It’s hard wanting these pricks to win .

It's not like I didn't expect it, we did pretty well first half but couldn't get out of our own half in the second and didn't have anyone to come on to change the game really either.

Would be nice if we do eventually stop having only 28% possession in these games against City though.

We looked like a league 2 side in the cup just desperately holding on after a wonder strike early on. The football is nonexistent. On another day this could have been 5 or 6 nil. When we lost 6-1 all those years ago now, it was a massive shock. United don’t lose 6-1 to anyone. These days we’re expecting to be dominated all game and hope we can keep the scoreline respectable. It’s tiring that this is the situation year after year after year.

In the last 10 years, both clubs spent similar amounts of money on players...look at we are now...the difference is incommensurable.
I could see some Championship teams playing better football than us, injuries aside.
It's all about judgement and we have had a lot of people at this club with none. That is regarding managers, then backing manager when it was really, really needed, why we signed players, usually for the wrong reason, definitely not footballing. I support the New York Yankees and most players seem to end up there at one point or another. We are the footballing version. Spend loads, but always leave glaring gaps in the lineup.

Am I being unreasonable but I think it’s a foul on Rashford by Walker and also a foul by Ederson on Garnacho. If I’m wrong, tell me why.
The day either of them are fouls is the day I stop watching football

Hard to be competitive when our players can barely muster 20 minutes before getting exhausted/giving a toss.

well, if we hadn't he'd have had three again
What I'm saying is that we didn't keep him quiet he never has a lot of touches and is involved in build-up play. He gets on the end of things and he should have had 2 today, that's not an achievement unless you're Sheffield United.

Battered for almost the whole game and got what we deserved which was nothing. It was an ugly performance from the team, somewhat by design, it looked like it was going to work but City were so far ahead of us that they got their deserved equaliser and then it was inevitable that they would finish us off.

Anyone who is content with that performance, game plan or not, needs their head checking.

The possession and shot ratios are embarrassing, it wasn't even a contest.

We've not played well for so long, yet people are happy to live off wonder moments and think things are changing.

We once again played right into their hands. Sat back and tried to counter, but one instance aside (which while a great goal was a 1 in 100 chance), were completely toothless again.

Our passing when (trying to) play out from the back is so obvious, and we give it away time and again.

we pussied out of giving it a go to try and hold the 1-0 and it was obvious we’d get picked off, as we are incapable of defending in any sort of non brain dead capacity.

Really annoyed by that today.

We go into every game set up to nullify the other team instead of how it used to be, which was play our normal game and letting them worry about us. It’s just a shithouse way of playing and puts you on the back foot from the start.

We win that game with our strongest team. Small details are key in the game, and I saw so many situations where if Lindelof was Shaw, Scott was Mount, Evans was Martinez and Hojlund was on the pitch - we’d have made so much more of it.

Our ‘normal game’ from the times where that was the case is no longer good enough and we haven’t evolved in 15 years like every other top team has. So many facets of top level game we don’t value, and seem to put it down to our history, or ‘DNA’ being about something or another that can now only be used reactively.

Evans and Rashford had to come off because of injuries. Played not fully fit. Ten Hag said defensively they played well. I think for 50 minutes, that was true.

Every bit as soul destroying as anticipated. Under Sir Alex, when we were good, City regularly gave us a game in the Derby.

That second half was a stroll in the park for them.

Joyless to watch and depressing how far this club have fallen. Ten Hag thinks we're progressing though......

Sometimes the old stats do tell the story:

Possession: 74% - 26%
Shots: 27 - 3
Shots on Target: 8 - 1
Corners: 15 - 2
Fouls: 5 - 10

I just mean getting on the front foot and attacking someone instead of just sitting back and trying to soak up relentless pressure. Play your own game (whatever that may be) and try and make the other team change their style.

we were played off the park. if both teams took their chances we might score 3 and concede 10
Likewise if we'd put those away the whole dynamic of the game would have changed - especially the Rashford control. A two-punch 1->2-0 would have changed the game.

Tough loss, but was expected.

But IMHO, only players that disappointed was Rashford - really awful besides the goal, Garnacho - didn't get as involved, so difficult to actually affect the match and Mctominay - wasn't as bad as Rashford, but not good either.

So it was more down to City being a way too good team that we lost, sadly. Onana our best player hands down, but Evans and Varane where pretty good whole match imo.

Rashford scored an amazing goal but he was incredibly wasteful on two breakaways which might have led to 1 on 1 situations with Ederson. On another day, we might have done enough to nick it.

Disappointing day but it just seems like the same match at the Etihad for the past decade or so. Sit deep, counter and hope for the best. We don't have the quality to do much else at the moment. Would any other manager have done differently with the resources we have?

Next year, I hope we can get up to 30% possession and hit 5 shots at goal.

Baby steps.

Me too! Sorry lads. In fact I walked into the pub the exact time Foden scored the first goal. Crap.
Confirmed players post on this forum. Should have stayed on the pitch, Rashford!

Trust the process!!!

To get us relegated.

Voted Onana as MotM but Varane and Dalot did well, too. Evans as well. Others not so much. Garnacho was poor, McTominay.

I get that. The reason why we don’t seem to do it often is that it doesn’t really work, is what I mean. Even against the poorest of teams, we just end up in a basketball match, or what the great Paul Merson calls ‘you ave a shot, we ave a shot’. Literally anyone. Sheffield United, Luton, Burnley - anyone. Our game has needed to evolve for more than a decade. The United Way has now disintegrated into ‘try and do everything quickly’. That’s about it really.

United not having the skills to control the midfield against anyone is a bizarre trait all the recent squads share.

Defend deep and try to win on the counter has been the tactic all the managers succumb to with this lot for whatever reason.

Not even bothered about the result today, just want to see some kind of change in the summer.

Man City were the better team. Lots of their shots first half were off target. Great goal from Rashy but he did look like he was playing with an injury. But that’s not all the story of the game we had our chances ref was again a pain giving city so many soft fouls while ours were deemed too soft to give. Still thinks Emerson on Garna was excessive but what do I know about football
