Realise that irrespective of what we do, people despise United regardless. We aren’t getting any love-ins for discarding Greenwood.

Bring him back, don’t bring him back, whatever. It won’t change the societal opinion of United. We certainly aren’t currying any favour with the public and/or media by ostracising Greenwood.

Seems like an unreliable source (the Daily Mail using a Sun article that itself is citing an anonymous source).
Probably not fully relevant but several players including Bruno keep liking his Instagram posts.

I believe the bit about the players probably wanting him back because they know him at a personal level and at least some of them have probably been texting him throughout the loan. I’m just not sure if the Sun would be able to verify it through an anonymous source.

I bet Kaveh Solhekol and Dharmesh Shesh have some sources.

What a great way of ruining yesterday's brilliant result.

Typical of us this season.
Do you mean, trusting speculations from unconfirmed sources? If you trust anything you read, you are gonna lose your hair quickly. The players will be the last ones to be asked for an opinion. Doesn't matter if they want him back or not, if the management is not open to that idea. The noise right now is that United will sell him in the summer.

just let him go. garnacho, diallo, rashford and another offer plenty in those areas and we dont need another season kicking off with off pitch hysteria. Before the well known incident he was already dropped by england and starting to show some real patchy form- compared to a talent like garnacho where work rate is concerned, i think we should make money while we can and just move on.

wrong....greenwood is absolutely our best attacking player even over rashford and garnacho

no doubt there are players on the team who stay in touch with him as an offer of support

That may have been the case 4 years ago compared to how the likes of Rashford and Garnacho are playing in the present (which isn't that bad to be honest), but it would be hard to make the case that Greenwood at Getafe is somehow head and shoulders better than anything we have in the present. I do think he would be much better at United this year than at Getafe given the quality he would be surrounded by as well as the incentive of playing for his hometown childhood club.

You could easily imagine a number of players not wanting back though. Even ignoring the whole sexual assault situation it sounds like he was often a but of a prick to other players and the coaching staff

Beyond personality clashes or previous issues I’d imagine most would welcome him.

Footballers want to win, want to be in winning teams that get trophies and have a finite time/opportunity to do so. They want the worlds best talents to come to the club they are at.

Dressing rooms are not forward thinking or overly moral places. Certainly not the ones I’ve been in and evidence is fairly overwhelming that remains the case/is the case at top clubs.

Racially abusive players find clubs and dressing rooms to excel in, players with sex scandals/rape allegations, proven/unproven do fine. The recent Austria(?) players Ragnick disciplined for homophobia will be back after a game or two with, I’m sure, totally new opinions.

i'll give you Garnacho is having a solid campaign in terms of just being consistent with the vast majority of his performances, i just don't think you can say the same about Rashford.

The other reason is simply he offers something on our right hand side we don't have right now without having to move Garnacho over there, which to be fair, i think right now is the best spot for him. We saw the capabilities of what a front line looked like when marcus, martial and mason were playing at top form. Blessing in disguise over the greenwood absence is that it's allowed Garnacho to take the next step in his progression to a regular first team player.

Putting the other issues aside for a moment, where would actually play Greenwood? At RW we have Garnacho and behind him Antony and Amad. At CF we have Hojlund, who does not has a backup. Does Greenwood agree to come back as a squad player?

If we keep all those players then its unlikely Greenwood returns. We would still have Sancho and Pellistri to get rid of as well. On the other hand, the prospect of retaining Anthony and Amad are probably based on recency bias and not on their overall contribution this year, so it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility if one of them goes to make FFP room for other buys, irrespective of whether Greenwood himself stays or goes.

I disagree. I think hes a fantastic talent, but scored 5 and 7 in his previous 2 league seasons. And had plenty of games he was way off it, with loads of speculation about how unhappy he is re Ronaldo and so on. All similar stuff you see around Sancho. Dumped by England. He was carrying plenty of baggage for a teenager, before the high profile incident. Id take Garnacho over him every week.

Switch between right and middle ?
Sell Antony and keep Amad.

Garnacho, Rashford, Amad, MG, Hojlund, Bruno for front 4 ?

What evidence do you have of dressing rooms not being forward thinking places?

Not sure many racists or people who commit sexual assaults find a place at top clubs. Sure some find their way back into professional football but usually at lower level clubs

Racism off the top of my head;

Barton, Terry, Suarez, Baros, Busquets, Yems, etc.

Homophobia;

https://amp.theguardian.com/footbal...k-drops-three-players-for-homophobic-chanting

The simple fact there are no openly gay PL players…

sexual/domestic assault/paying for sex:

Ronaldo, Greenwood, Benzema, Partay, Grealish, Rooney

https://amp.theguardian.com/footbal...tball-links-with-sexual-and-domestic-violence

General ‘locker room culture’:

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...cester-tigers-manchester-united-a8942166.html

I’m sure I could find literal tonnes of examples if I were bothered, obviously there’s a huge allegation/proven caveat to most but the game is awash with these issues, widening out from the dressing room, fanbases, social media and live crowds are frequently found to be abhorrently racist/homophobic/sectarian.

He's pretty versatile. We have Garnacho, Hojlund, Antony and Rashford currently for 4 spots. He'll get more than enough games if he comes back (rotating with Hojlund / Garnacho).

No point relying on Amad, Antony, Sancho or Pellistri for various reasons.

Why so much talk about a Getafe player who hasn't played for United since 2022?

The day after United beat the scousers 4-3.

Bizarre.

An odd question given that dressing rooms / locker rooms across all sport are notorious for being crass and brimming with masculinity culture. Not exactly environments that one would consider "forward thinking".

Wish that was the case. But commercialism, marketability and reputational damage is more important to a club than fans who can be bought with a shiny new player here and there.

I think it's quite disrespectful to link the first two as on some kind of parity with the final one.
Disrespectful to who?

In NI, where I’m from, paying for sex is a criminal offence, unlike the rest of the UK. Irrespective most prostitutes in the UK are foreign nationals and sadly very often victims of trafficking and abuse.

I personally don’t find it to be a million miles away, but each to their own.

https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/64627/html/#:~:text=The Metropolitan Police estimate 70,of the authorities[9].

points 1.1 - 3.2 worth a read.

Long term Garnachos future is on the left. Greenwood is a better player than Antony and Amad. If Greenwood were to return I think he would know he isn't walking straight back into the team.

Still don't think we'll see him back though.

It doesn’t matter if the mens team want him back. I’m pretty sure the woman’s team won’t and that will have to be taken into account. They all share carrington so there’s a risk of things getting out of control.

It's tabloid nonsense any way but you are putting way too much stock in whether players want him back or not , irrespective of what their opinion is that includes Women team if the Club decides to bring him back everybody will fall in line at Club I don't see any possibility of things getting out of hand at all .

I disagree. There’s always gonna be players with different opinions. They’ll be some that want him back and some that don’t. That’s the way it is… whatever is decided though will be the right choice by the club and they’ll have a statement to say why they choose what they did. And if they choose that he’s coming back into the team then it’s down to the ones that was against it to get use to it.

Rather ominous take, but not one without merit.

The women's team can be coerced into accepting him back. A transfer threat, rumours about their own conduct 'leaked' or even physically/mentally threatened. This wouldn't happen as much with the men's team, but could be implemented gradually.

There's every chance 'control' can be prised away from them and made to mean something else entirely. Something awful.

Fingers crossed the club does the right thing and remove Greenwood, especially if there's a massive furore. The last thing we need is another self-inflicted off pitch distraction.

And if they choose that he’s coming back into the team then it’s down to the ones that was against it to get use to it.
If they don't, they can always be booted out and replaced with compliant staff, anyway. Same with supporters.

This is why setting the right example is imperative.

Yup.

The most important factor isn’t the views of the Men’s or Women’s team, it’ll be a financial one.
Sponsors, bad PR & transfer fee will weigh much heavier.
United will want a good fee for him, I’d imagine a 40m & he’s all yours, else a cheaper fee with a large sell on clause. If they get that, I can’t for a second see them turning it down. It’s very likely the player and his family will also want nothing to do with coming back to United and the negative response that will follow.

It’s quite sad that we’d be willing to take 40m when he’s worth easily a lot more. He’s still only 22 and if he moves to a top side he’ll bang them in for fun. If he was still at us and in top form we’d be talking closer to 100m in today’s market.

Sad but that’s how it turned out, as soon as the allegations were made public he was damaged goods. If the club can get 40m, or 30m + a large sell-on, I think they’ll be delighted at this point.
