How bad have our injuries really been this season?

It's beyond a joke

Who allowed Martinez to feck off to join his country even though he wasn't fit to play. What was the point of him doing that? Surely we had him on a rehab programme (if not why not) so he should be at Carrington where we can properly assess him. Hardly a short journey either, the only way it could be considered reasonable

He clearly wasn't fully fit as Harry came on ahead of him when whoever it was got injured that he replaced. So why put him on the bench? If he's not ready go 3 at the back when the next injury comes, or bring a kid on. ETH trying to save himself?

ETH will now go on about all the injuries

I think us looking gassed after 20 minutes and the injuries tie in. Where is the conditioning? The fitness? No other PL club has players unable to run after 20 minutes, it's disgraceful

I hope this is being seriously investigated because it's absolutely ridiculous. A couple of the usual suspects wouldn't be shocking but this is repeated. I'm close to putting Licha in the injury prone category, which is a shame as he's one of my favourite current players, the only thing stopping me is I think ETH rushed him back each time which then led to a cycle of injuries

Could it be tied in with the ridiculous number of games last season? We saw it happen to Liverpool the season after they had lots of games. Imagine if we were trying to compete on multiple fronts.

Shambles.

FFS!

Either we've had the absolute worst luck with injuries this season - especially in defence - or there's a reason for all these injuries that we really need to work out and address.

Is it ETH's training, or the training facilities? Incompetent medical team, or ETH rushing them back too soon? Or just absolutely rotten luck? Whatever the reason(s), it's frustrating as hell worrying each day to see who's the next injured. Two for the price of one today! :(

I wonder if ETHs injury record was as bad at Ajax. Seems far too coincidental that we’ve had so many muscle injuries. They must be working hard in training, hence too tired to run during a game.

It is now more than obvious that ETH's training is the root cause of so many muscle injuries and why we look so gassed in games so quickly, or dont even get going at all.

I'm absolutely convinced that Ten Hag has no idea how to plan training and recovery for the English League.

Also, did we not just sign a new head club doctor from Arsenal last summer?? Sack the fecker. It's worse than ever before.

Martinez is now on his third significant injury after 3 times being rushed back too soon.

Yes the knee injury was a freak one, but aggravating the achilles and now this calf injury are purely down to ETH rushing him back.

What happens when Mainoo next gets injured, now that he's become indispensable like Martinez?

Let me get this right, we play with so much intensity during training that all our players get injured. Yet we play with zero intensity during matches and still look exhausted. We are either incredibly unfit or over worked. Something's clearly not working with the training Erik, and it needs changing.

It might be worth noting that last season when we were pretty much playing 3 games a week and had no real time to train, the players maintained their fitness by just playing games and using the little off time to recover. We didn’t accumulate many injuries during this period of time at all.

How are people using this to aid the reasoning for ETH to stay? He sets the training and he brings in the staff. He let Martinez go out to Argentina when no other club would even think of doing such a thing.

He has caused his own problems and so he has to face the consequences. You cannot just cry to INEOS at every issue in which you deem is out of your hands.

Anyone suggesting this is a normal level of injury is an idiot. This is so beyond what any club experiences it’s impossible to play consistently and well with this.

Surely serious questions must be raised for ETH and his staff. The amount of muscle injuries we’ve had this season is just staggering.

It's not bad luck. Once again we rushed a player back from injury and paid the price for it.

There absolutely does need to be a serious review into how this is happening. Because it’s completely destroying any chance of progress.

The entire medical staff has to taste the axe at the end of the season. It's really time to gut the whole department after nearly 2 decades of total ineptitude. The purge must hit so many faces that it would even make Stalin wince.

Fundamental issue at the club with training and physical preparation from game to game with a common denominator of an underperforming medical department. This news today just hi lights the farcical nature of this area of the club.

It’s the same player being rushed back third time this season and getting injured again. We have 8 or 9 of our first team players healthy currently so the squad is fine overall but once they start getting injured, they are just on and off from then on. Happened with Shaw, Martinez, Casemiro and others. We just seem incapable of letting players recover.

Overhaul the medical department, use sports science to reduce injuries and ship out players who are injury prone, we'll get 10+ points more a season with a consistent line up its a huge priority.

Red Card for Casemiro!
You would think that having someone like Brailsford on board would help with reducing the injury list next season onwards. But United have a special knack for turning world class talent in every department to underperforming assets.

We moved to one game a week and we still have injuries. This means that stubborn ETH has increased training sessions to make up for this, by maintaining exertion outputs of a two game week.

Am sure when Brailsford gets the same doping "fitness programme" that was in place at Team Sky then all of our players will suddenly transform overnight into injury free workhorses with a souped up Wan Bisakka banging in 25 goals a season and nobody batting an eyelid.

You mean 6 billion Manchester United, 1200 employees and all, pro football club but has no fitness coach at all? And that is on Ten Hag?

Also, are Dalot, Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho, McTominay, Antony etc on illegal substances that they seem to endure Mad Ten Hags bullying training regime? See if its training regime, the injuries would be much more random through the squad. Also would be very similiar like, muscle injuries. They are not. Just more wummery.

What they could do is do a better review on player ability and traits themselves. Better scouting. But that is something INEOS already noticed. Shaw for instance, is made of sugar and was sugar under Ole, under Jose too.

c) None of the above. When every game we play turns into a basketball match, constantly counter attacking or being countered against, then we’ll inevitably pick up a lot of injuries.
Would like to bring this post up, since it makes a lot of sense if you consider all the factors.
How many games is United playing, compared to other teams - and how many players in their full roster?
The situation is a consequence of
  • manager needing to field the best players regardless of fitness to fight for EU spots
  • manager needs to save himself, perhaps at the cost of players' future fitness
  • rigorous training regime that he has had success with in Ajax but does not translate well into PL?
  • playing style which requires a lot of "transitioning" from being on attack to being counterattacked with all areas having to move.
  • depth and quality, also meaning bullet point 1.
Other teams have injuries indeed. And some of them go on incessantly about it. It doesn't help though, does it (to whine about it).
It feels like the other top teams (especially Pep and City) can change players' roles in a whim and they understand what the job is. City was without left back for ages and just put Zinchenko there. Or school Cancelo who's right footed into being an inverted wing-back sliding into midfield.

Injuries have definitely been a big factor this season, but do we think that the results actually would be much better there only were 2 "major" injuries. Say only Shaw and Martinez out.

We also need a manager that values possession football so the players aren't over reaching and over working to keep control

It is really bizarre. We look even worse fitness wise ever since we’ve moved to one game a week — the only logical explanation I can think there is we have more time to (we’re assuming incorrectly) train!

Great points which will probably get lost among the ETH slagging.

I’d also add to that the sluggishness of Rashford and McTominay aren’t new things either and aren’t caused by over-training.

The brainlessness of the likes of Wan Bissaka isn’t because he’s fatigued or anything like that, that’s just how he is.

I’m pissed off at ETH for various things (including rushing Licha back) and do seriously question whether he should stay beyond this season but the training being at fault sounds like another excuse for this lazy, mediocre, under-performing bunch of players to cling to.

I think a lot of our issues are psychological. Players not up to the pressure of playing for United and the scrutiny it brings.

Think of it like a game where a team plays and they look so off it. They aren’t passing right , second to every ball and they just generally look not like themselves. I’d hazard a guess this is usually some sort of psychological issue. Underestimating opponents, not taking game serious or finding the pressure of expectations too much.

I feel this has been a lot of United teams since saf left. How many times have United gone through periods where it feels like maybe something good could be building and as soon as we start talking optimistic the team collapses. And then we lower our expectations and expect the worse and the team has some sort of recovery.

This is where our dysfunctional throw shit at a wall transfer policy has played a huge role. Like a child spending money on football manager , with zero consideration to creating a winning squad culture. Every manager stuck trying to bring in different parts to compensate but stuck with an awful lot of players not good enough or injury prone, that makes it hard to harness that winning culture.

Was this not something that Rangnick highlighted during his time at the club as well? That the players just didn't have the physical capability to deliver what a top team needs with the intensity of the game and league? Or am I mixing things up?

But how does this affect our injury increase?
