Thoughts on Tuchel as a potential United manager?

Would you appoint Thomas Tuchel as the next Manchester United manager?

Get him in now INEOS, the time for waiting is over, we're in complete free fall and the season is not over until the final whistle blows in the FA Cup final. Stop wasting our time.

I weirdly think it would be the opposite, if he doesn't we'll go for him. If he does, probably more likely to stay at Bayern.
I'm reading mixed messages about his willingness to stay. I think he would stay if the guy he fell out with fecked off or something (Think its Hoeness?)
The issue is there was some rather public mud slinging and I wonder if thats recoverable. It's not a Xavi situation where he wanted to step down by his own accord and was persuaded to stay. Bayern openly said he's basically sacked a while ago.

Also Tuchel himself isn't blameless in the situation - he was reportedly unreasonable in transfer demands (I wonder how that fares with the new owners here). That caused beef between him and Hoeness too.

The cafe will turn on him after 2 months in charge.
If so, which he'd have to be doing an incredibly bad job considering the current standards, so be it. Mangers aren't tied to the club, they're here to do a job.

Yeah, there's definitely a rift, I'm not sure what it is. I think if he goes out the CL, that rift will likely remain unresolved and blame will remain, so we can start conversations. If he ends up winning the CL, I think everyone will strike a more conciliatory tone and the parties will probably meet in the middle.

If he gets a whiff of a United interest I don't see him agreeing to stay though

Best available candidate, INEOS should already seal him in the background. He loves England and would love to come.

Fire Eric only to get Southgate is basically sealing a midtable future.

Not the guy for a long term build, but the term "could do worse .." has never seemed so apt.

It's funny how quick things change in football.

Two weeks ago I thought ETH should be given one more year under INEOS to see what he can do, now I cant wait to see the back of him and would love Tuchel at United.

One thing opinion that hasn't changed though is......anyone but Southgate.

Our current manager is EtH, and our other option seems to be Southgate, so by comparison it's a no-brainer really. Bring on Tommy!

On a side note: when watching YouTube etc., it's shocked me how many of these fans want to stick with Ten Hag and make endless excuses. Very weird!

I genuinely don't get it either.

I get the romanticism for other managers like Jose or Ole, but not ten Hag. It's the equivalent of watching fans mourning over Darron Gibson or Kieran Richardson leaving the club.

I'm not even thinking about winning the title. You need luck ultimately, and if pep decides to stay another 10 years at city then he'll always do the majority.

But Tuchel absolutely would turn us into a quality side who gets to the latter stages of the CL consistently which is all we can ask for. Be a functional and be a serious team regularly, competing with the clubs we should be competing with. Whether we get over the line or become an almost club, we'll see, but since Sir Alex retired we've been a Europa League level club.
I'm not really thinking about the title either honestly, I'd take any improvement at this time.

But having seen the last ten years of crap, I won't be giving any manager "all the time he needs to change things". I used to believe in that mantra, but I don't any more. We laugh at Real Madrid's or Chelsea circus, but here RM are about to reach yet another CL final and Chelsea, despite their own issues, have won more in the last decade and are STILL somehow above us in the league FML

Who would your choice be? I'm not massive on Tuchel at all. I think he's a 'good' manager, but I have huge doubts over whether he can take us any further than top 4 and a cup. Problem is, nobody out there appeals to me at all.
I'm in the same boat as you. I would stick with Ten Hag and then see how he gets on in a more refined structure. If he continues to fail then we see who's available. It's one of those moments where if there's no play then do nothing.

Yeah, unfortunately there is no new Klopp or Guardiola available for us right now. It's either young and unproven risky options or steady, but ultimately 'B rate' managers. There's just something so uninspiring about appointing a manager who you know from the outset isn't going to be good enough. I'm not sure where some get their excitement for Tuchel from.

What's the point of appointing him, if in two years the same people will scream to sack him, because he's a fraud etc.

Woof. If the Orn has spoken, I guess this might actually happen then. Would have preferred Motta myself (watched some of Bologna this season as I really like Lewis Ferguson and been impressed) but will take Tuchel for a few years.
No. Ornstein just said Tuchel wants the job. That's basically saying water is wet. He's been wanting to come back to the PL for a while. Its more about whether the club view Tuchel as a good enough candidate. All we have is The Telegraph saying theyre concerned with his "abrasive" character.

I suppose building a team and having patience have been thrown out the window.

I can understand not wanting Tuchel to take over.

I can not for the life of me understand wanting to keep ETH in charge instead. That's just doubling down on failure and happily writing off yet another season before it even starts.

Get him now?! How would that work?

Any chance we’re waiting for Bayern’s season to come to an end tonight before making a move? Please?

Would take him in a heartbeat.

Not because I'd think he is guaranteed to do well or any but there isn't a lot of options out there and we simply have to that a punt on someone.

Keeping ETH ain't an option

Indeed. My point was more about Ornstein, who we know doesn't say anything or report something unless it is accurate and has validity, has said Tuchel wants the job. That's more than anything we have heard from accurate sources. It comes off the back of INEOS appearing to take a stance of ETH being the gaffer for now, unless there really is a meltdown (I personally think we are already there) plus some other grumblings about him staying manager. So as I said, if Orn has spoken and said thus, then it MIGHT actually happen. Not just some supposed conjecture.

The main thing he has going for him is he's not Erik.

Bayern out tonight, Tuchel at Carrington tomorrow and a cup in his fourth game in charge. Can't see the problem myself...

Bayern get knocked out tonight this will gather pace.
I still don't think so yet. I think it would gather pace after the FA Cup final quickly though. Whereas if Bayern win tonight and are in the CL Final in June, then we probably won't hear much about it until after then. (Assuming Tuchel is the man United actually want and ETH is actually going)

Yep, we're too classy to announce or leak anything before the cup final.

Just too obvious to not bring him in when we need a proven winner who can command respect, and also provide a decent level of tactical competence. Steady the ship for a couple of seasons while we slowly rebuild the squad.

Keep an eye on all the young promising managers and take the best one 2 or 3 seasons down the line. No point risking it all on McKenna or Iraola or Motta or Amorim right now with such a fractured, broken squad.

We have gone from title contenders to top 4 candidates to just want to play good football. Sigh the downfall has been painful.

I agree. He's less avuncular than someone like Pellegrini, but you could see him taking over as something equivalent to MP at City pre-Guardiola - a loose 2-3 year interim to win things, tweak what needs be and keep squad ticking.

Line up 2-3 of the best prospects, (McKenna, Iraola) and advise them to keep their career options open in terms of general plans (being available for jobs, but also whatever extensions they sign, clauses they demand) with idea that you'll be looking to bring someone in by or before 2027. There isn't one candidate, ala Guardiola, but then again City were having those conversations with Guardiola whilst he was at BM, a big enough club in their own right and with no guarantee he'd definitely agree to move any time soon, even as they assembled an exec team in advance to broadly suit him.

I think he makes perfect sense, he would be the first United manager to be at the club based on previous credentials since Jose imo.

Objectively speaking, he has taken us to 3 cup finals, the same amount as Jose and 2 more than Ole. I don’t view ten Hag as a saviour and I’m certain INEOS thru Wilcox and Berrada will lean on sacking him rather than giving him another year, but completely disregarding the fact he has taken us to 3 domestic finals is just plain ignorance from our supporters.
