Why in the feck would Erik leak this before such a huge match? He gains nothing. This has obviously come from the club.
Yes he does, he wants a new job. Why would anyone connected to Manchester United want to ruin our chances of winning a trophy tomorrow unless you don’t really give a shit because you’ve been booted anyway?

Can't say it isn't deserved, but also feel a little ambivalent about it. I do think he's gotten a raw deal this season, and there were many positives last year. I'm also not really excited about any of the options lined up to replace him.

At the same time it's worth remembering how poor we were at the beginning of the season, before the injuries really took hold, and that he has been at least partly responsible for some really poor transfers. He's also been way to stubborn in some of his player selection.

Awful awful timing. with a massive cup final tomorrow

This has actually pissed me off a bit. It means player power has won again.

If they are being ruthless with the manager, they better be ruthless with this group of useless players. Cause we will be back in this same position in 12-18 months time without a doubt
Nothing to do with player power. Our squad is massively different to a few years ago. Ten Hag simply isn't Ineos' guy, they took over and want to change how things operate and the role of the manager, and Ten Hag was always on thin ice. This is them going in a different direction which is fine. They will change the squad in due course too but it doesn't mean you stick with a manager the previous regime hired who you don't believe in, while also drastically changing his role from before.

Clean break is better, fresh start as a club.

Then you've missed the point and I dont know how to explain any simpler.

This getting leaked to disrupt us before the cup final was obviously predictable. It could have easily been avoided by sacking him or announcing his departure at the time the decision was made. Not doing that was amateurish by Ineos.
Again, there's zero evidence that this is a leak.

Regardless of anyone wanting eth to go. Amateur hour from Ineos this, everyone should be focused on tomorrow.

I’m not sure it’s awful timing to be honest. The players could want to give him a good farewell, the fans definitely would as well.

ETH probably already knew his fate a week or two back so it wouldn’t be a surprise to him.

Do you really think he would want to damage his own chances of winning a cup? I see no logic in Erik leaking this.

I’d imagine people at the athletic for instance knew about this also but chose not to print it. It could have waited until after the weekend. Joke

Also is anyone in the least bit surprised it's Jamie Jackson desperately being the first to be definitive about it on the eve of the final.

Like I said, biggest ABU journalist of the lot. Nasty little shit
It wasn’t Jackson but agree with all the rest :)

Very classless if true. I get that they've likely already made the decision to sack him, but its a little humiliating and pathetic to do it at the eve of a cup final.

I sincerely hope this was someone at the club being a bit rogue and leaking it as opposed to the club briefing it.

Who cares if it's before a cup final? He's getting the opportunity to go out with a bang.
Yeah not sure why so many are crying about the timing as if it affects our chances of winning at all. If anything some players might be giving extra effort knowing they could be next on the chopping block with a new manager coming in.

Personally thought this should have happened months ago but just glad it’s happening and we aren’t doing the stupid fecking strategy of “see how he starts next season then sack him at Christmas if it’s still going badly”

Very weird timing to leak this. Could've sacked him months ago but no they have to dilly-dally this thing. Should've just wait a few days after the final regardless the result to sack him. Weird decision.

What happened in the 12 months since they finished 3rd? Onana that bad ?
What happened? Casemiro has been injured and fallen off a cliff physically, Rashford has become shite Rashford again, and Shaw (and his backup Malacia), Martinez and Mount have been injured for almost the entire season. That's some of it. Look at the players and teams we've put out this season, they're mid table at best. No manager would get this lot in the top 4.

This is the worst season in the club's recent history and the players majority of whom have shown great professionalism in that none of them have downed tools, thrown the manager under the bus or given up on him.

The only negative would be the implication for the manager knowing it's the final game. I think this season is a stark contrast to previous where the team has let the manager but this occasion it's reversed.

can understand INEOS wanting theit own guy in there. But doesnt change the fact many of these players have downed tools once again this season and hugely contributed to some of the awful results that have led to this.

A fresh start means the same with the squad. Not everyone of them getting a clean slate. more gettin in new faces and the ones that have shown they are not good enough/ cant be trusted out

No, it obviously hasn’t. Why would the club leak it before the cup final? It’s obviously come from third parties outside of the club, probably an agent.

A bit depressing really to be in an equally if not worse state than when he took over, I was so convinced we finally had a modern, progressive manager in charge that would take us forward. I just hope if it is McKenna that we aren't calling for his head too in 18 months.

Not really because "United declined to comment"

If this wasnt true, why wouldnt they say so?

And even if it has zero basis in reality, it's still disrupting us hours before a cup final. Which is why Erik had to go weeks or months ago. It was obvious this would happen.
The media do this to us regularly. If we sacked him before the FA cup final people would be saying "how could they sack him before a final and wreck all the preparation" and then if they sack him after if he wins it's "how could they sack him for winning the FA cup". Manchester United generate clicks and half of them are bullshit made up nonsense, but if we are talking to McKenna or whoever then I expect something like that is impossible to hide.

Player power?

We've had a massive turnover of players over the last few years, and this season almost all of them have obviously been trying but they've been blatantly set up to fail by the incompetence of the manager. We could have a starting 11 made up of the best of City, Arsenal and Liverpool players out there, they still would have struggled to make the top four with this ridiculous formation and playstyle. I've got no problem blaming players when they've let us down and we certainly still need a big squad revamp, but in this case the manager was clearly the bigger issue.

Well I hope any press conference after the game ETH tells them where to shove it and INEOS can come out and answer all the questions.

The piss easy excuse was already there in that we are shit and City are not, to be fair.
We are shocking to the point where we got battered by Crystal Palace, Brentford and Fulham, anything less than a cricket score is unexpected

Actually it's never looked like most of the players have downed tools under Ten Hag. Most players look like they follow instructions and put in some effort. It's just the instructions are rubbish.

Examples of a team downing tools can be seen when Rangnick was here.

If true, this is disgraceful from the club. We have learnt nothing from the LvG debacle. Not the biggest fan of ETH or the season we’ve had but he deserves better than to have this news leaked 24 hours before the biggest game of the season.

I agree, the team has just been poor. Performances poor. Nothing clicked this season.

I don't think United would be so stupid to tell him he's being sacked before a cup final.

That's the point... looks like you're the one having a mare
We're Chelsea because we decided to make contingency plans instead of sitting on our arses until the last moment? Doesn't make sense... thats just you being frustrated because we didn't announce it earlier, but there could be a multitude of reasons why they didn't

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Best thing he can do now is come out and say before the game that it's his last match but that he wants to go out on a high and we're going to give everything to win the game. Will give the supporters that bit of extra motivation to try and get behind the team and see what happens.

Would be funny if Bayern do a u-turn on Kompany and offer the gig to Ten Hag instead. Leaving Kompany to scurry back to the exotic town of Burnley to prepare for another campaign in the championship, all while tearfully deleting his spotify playlists consisting of various remixes of the champions league anthem.

Don't think the timing will change a thing about tomorrow and we don't know for certain where the info came from. Not great to have this crap come out today but it's never easy for us as a club to handle things quietly behind the scenes.
