So these guys call the Georgia recount "fake" - in a state controlled by Republicans. And the governor is a "traitor" for having failed to make the vote tally yield a win a Trump.Tweet

That's one thing I can agree with Trump supporters on.
Goes to show, these guys arnt Republicans and they are followers of the Trump **** who just happen to now vote Republican, this is where the riot police come in and knock heads.Tweet

You can have it as long as we can keep Marquette.
Shocking that people with no share of the country's capital are disenfranchised with democracy. So these guys call the Georgia recount "fake" - in a state controlled by Republicans. And the governor is a "traitor" for having failed to make the vote tally yield a win a Trump.
There is no room for compromise with such people. They won't accept and don't believe in democracy. They just want to pose as "patriots" to disguise their white supremacist and totalitarian views.
I'd guess they have as much a share as the average voter - but if you want to excuse them then that's on you.Shocking that people with no share of the country's capital are disenfranchised with democracy.
Almost nobody has much of a share of the country's capital. Do you think Dems all love democracy?I'd guess they have as much a share as the average voter - but if you want to excuse them then that's on you.
I think that most prefer it to any of the alternatives. In contrast, many Republicans only want democracy to extent that it gives them power - and cry fraud when it doesn't.Almost nobody has much of a share of the country's capital. Do you think Dems all love democracy?
Bullshit. These idiots vote for charlatans and gobshites every election cycle. Kentucky is one of the poorest states in the country because of Mitch McConnell and the only reason the disenfranchised have healthcare is because they vote for a Democratic governor every eight years. You want to talk about the disenfranchised, look up people of color in Georgia where there vote was stolen last time around by the guy who benefited most. Or the millions of voters in California whose vote is five times weaker then a voter in Wyoming or the Dakotas. This country is a fecking mess because of greed, stupidity, the cowardice of the Dems and the outright shithousery of the Republicans with a good sprinkling of dumb religion and apathetic voters. But these people take the fecking cake.Shocking that people with no share of the country's capital are disenfranchised with democracy.

These people you see are all uninformed fecking loons. Brainwashed, but loons nonetheless.
They have no opportunities to acquire a piece of the pie because of neoliberalism. Same with most Dems. The reaction to similar problems is the main differentiator.Bullshit. Not all Trump supporters are economically impoverished, in fact a good number of them are standard middle class people. The neoliberalism argument also wouldn't explain why so many of them are racist, sexist, and xenophobic. They have no opportunities to acquire a piece of the pie because of neoliberalism. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Republican party completely imploded ?Tweet

Nature abhors a vacuum so what would fill the gap? As much as I dislike the repubs I’d be concerned if something worse, like a Trump party, took over.Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Republican party completely imploded ?
And this overly simplistic argument doesn't explain why so many Trump voters are minorities and women. Not all Trump supporters are economically impoverished, in fact a good number of them are standard middle class people. The neoliberalism argument also wouldn't explain why so many of them are racist, sexist, and xenophobic.
Ultimately, Trumpism has very little to do with economic policy and a lot to do with America's transition from the old homogenous white male run nation towards a more heterogeneous society where people of many backgrounds are increasingly rising to positions of power, and through that process transforming cultural rules, norms, and power structure.
This is making the old guard fight back to preserve homogeneity and also explains why so many issues are suddenly framed through race. There is obviously an economic component to all of this, but its not the main source of the problem. Add to that the toxic mix of social media groupthink and opinion commentator news channels like Fox, and you have the perfect conditions for what we've seen over the past 5 years.
Some would argue that the Republican party is already Trump's party, but I see your point. With the exception of a few high profile Republicans, noone in the party is really standing up to him.Nature abhors a vacuum so what would fill the gap? As much as I dislike the repubs I’d be concerned if something worse, like a Trump party, took over.
The so called minorities are very much a minority of Trump's base of support. And of course there are plenty of minority conservatives who like the old patriarchal, homogenous power structure. People like Clarence Thomas, Dinesh D'Souza and such. The women bit slides easily into the traditional value structure of the old system. And this overly simplistic argument doesn't explain why so many Trump voters are minorities and women.
You have to start analyzing things more thoroughly or the fascists will keep winning. Just calling them all white male racists isn't going to cut it.
You have to look at it more through Lakoff moral values and understand how much of a role conservative religion and free market fundamentalism plays in attracting 30-35 percent of minorities (higher in some cases). For instance a lot of Taiwanese and other small country Asian immigrants love Trump because of his anti-China message.
While the loudest Trump supporters might be racist and sexist, if you want to understand the phenomenon and counter it, you have to forget this overly simplistic view.
The three main reasons are not your bolded ones.
It is conservative religion, free market fundamentalism, and anti-intellectualism. Those are the three pillars that allowed Trump to rise and continue to wield a **** of personality over 70 million people.
Its going to have trouble reconstituting in any meaningful way until Trump releases his grip on it, which doesn't look likely to happen anytime soon. They may need to have a full civil war between the crazies and the old establishment types to settle things.Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Republican party completely imploded ?
Really excellent post. And this overly simplistic argument doesn't explain why so many Trump voters are minorities and women.

They could not vote for a party that doesn't give a crap about them. These people are all in for a ****. They worship a con man who plays to their bigotry and fear. Those people aren't out there protesting for economic fairness. They are out there wanting people's votes to be dumped so they can crown their king. They have no opportunities to acquire a piece of the pie because of neoliberalism. Same with most Dems. If GOP eventually were split into two factions, "Old GOP" and "Trump GOP" wouldn't that basically make sure that neither one of them would ever win the Presidency again?Nature abhors a vacuum so what would fill the gap? As much as I dislike the repubs I’d be concerned if something worse, like a Trump party, took over.
Definitely, it creates an us against them when in reality large swaths of the population agree on social and economic issues. Most of the trump voters I know agree with me on those issues but their source's of information dissuades them not to vote for a Democrat under any circumstances. The fact that communism is being leveled at people like Biden and Sanders is a big indicator that these Republican voters lack critical thinking or an understanding. Some would argue that the Republican party is already Trump's party, but I see your point. With the exception of a few high profile Republicans, noone in the party is really standing up to him.
It would do the US a world of good to have more than two parties, though. The two party system should take a lot of the blame for the current shitshow.
Possibly, though it could lead to the moderates essentially owning the Democratic Party for all eternity, since they would have no incentive to court the left. Or maybe the left would gain since the Democrats wouldn't need to convince Republicans to vote for them...If GOP eventually were split into two factions, "Old GOP" and "Trump GOP" wouldn't that basically make sure that neither one of them would ever win the Presidency again?
Definitely good points.Possibly, though it could lead to the moderates essentially owning the Democratic Party for all eternity, since they would have no incentive to court the left. Or maybe the left would gain since the Democrats wouldn't need to convince Republicans to vote for them...
No, because the Dems themselves are increasingly split between normal Dems and progressives, so there would be no clear advantage to any particular side in future elections. The important thing to consider is who controls the information. Trump benefited tremendously from the evening lineup on Fox News and probably wouldn't have even been relevant without their support. Who Fox and some of the right wing media support in the future will probably give you a picture of where Republican party is headed. If GOP eventually were split into two factions, "Old GOP" and "Trump GOP" wouldn't that basically make sure that neither one of them would ever win the Presidency again?
I think it was @berbatrick that posted the data about Biden winning due to increased upper-middle-class white voter support but you can find articles quite easily that support what I've heard in person a lot. Do racists support yes? But in an electoral college system relatively small minority groups can swing vote and you ignore these deeper levels of analysis at peril. The so called minorities are very much a minority of Trump's base of support. And of course there are plenty of minority conservatives who like the old patriarchal, homogenous power structure. People like Clarence Thomas, Dinesh D'Souza and such. The women bit slides easily into the traditional value structure of the old system.
Of course they're related. It doesn't excuse anyone but it is a reason. Fact is all those white people were relatively better off a generation ago (which is what our monkey brains care about, not absolute wealth) and the trend continues downwards. Not all Trump supporters are economically impoverished, in fact a good number of them are standard middle class people. The neoliberalism argument also wouldn't explain why so many of them are racist, sexist, and xenophobic.

If the GOP implodes or Trumpism prevails, I think the Dems would look to take up even more space on the centre-right, which in turn light lead to the split-off of their left wing. They already have fairly little in common with Democratic leadership, and that would only get worse in that scenario - while do are now putting up fairly good numbers for themselves. So why not go it alone. If GOP eventually were split into two factions, "Old GOP" and "Trump GOP" wouldn't that basically make sure that neither one of them would ever win the Presidency again?

I agree, although I don't think Trump is smart enough to do this strictly to cut a deal, especially since there are no deals to cut at the state level.Tweet

Or the repeated election of right wing governments in Australia. Although to be fair us not using their voting equipment makes it harder work for them.If they're a socialist or communist owned company falsifying elections in the UK then they should probably stop putting the tories in power.
