He definitely had a poor game all things considered. And it was not the first game either.
But it is a team game, better movement would help him and everyone else as well.
As we see everytime Antony comes on there, they find eachother well and we can suddenly get longer attacks, we can drag their defence around better and create some space here and there. Amad has shown that he is one of the few players we have that can provide a bit of gamechanging magic, so it is important we use him well imo.

It is now on him, to a) re-invent parts of his game to overcome that and b) for others to step up. Hope we don't burn him out, he is one of the players for the future, but he isn't there yet and his actual level isn't really to be evaluated yet. Many players have looked good in the PL when the timeframe is short enough, thank god, he finally got the playing time he needs but also lets be fair, stop hyping him up stop being too impatient with his development.

Our opponents have finally understood that he's the only threat among our forwards. He was constantly double and triple marked against Newcastle and you could feel him getting frustrated. Even when he got the ball in good positions our midfield pensioners couldn't catch up to provide support on time while Højlund was closely marking Fabian Schar. Onto the next one, if we're going to get anything at Anfield it's going to be through him or Bruno. Rashford is banned and Garna Zirkzee and Højlund are just not good.

Agreed, i saw this on a few occasions last night at the game, at one point there were four Newcastle players around him to stop him from getting forward, he was our only real outlet last night.

Not saying he couldn`t done more in those situations, but it is quite telling that he is outnumbered 4 to 1 in those pictures who covers quite a lot of grass. Especially the pic on the right.
Someone should feel, ”feck, i need to get closer to Amad so he can have an easier pass out” but you get the feeling that most of our players are just watching him go, hoping that he can slalom his way out of there.
We have seen it far too often before with Garnacho, Martial and Rashford as well. At times, we just play the quick ball out to the wings then we just hope they can provide magic by themselves.

Arguably our biggest talent but because other teams have figured out he's basically our only real threat at the moment, he's getting much more attention from opponents. While that may be hard for him and see him have perceived worse games, hopefully it'll enable others to be more influential.

Nothing against him, I think he's been great, but the culture of the club needs to change. It's funny that they all play their best football in the last year of their contracts.

While you are right he could have found a simple pass away, usually backwards, our play down the right side when he doesn't dribble the ball is awful. And most of the time we dont even try to build up down the right. We have 41% left side attacks, 24% in the middle and 35% on the right. Usually the issue is he isnt being given the ball in a decent area, often enough and our #10 on the right side is too quiet because of that lack of buildup from RCB, RWB and midfield. We've had this tendancy to overload on the left for a long time, its not new with Amorim but he hasnt evened it out with his new tactics. So now our best attacking player is playing in our most quiet role...

In fact against Newcastle we were even more lopsided

He still didnt play that well when he did get the ball but yes, they made sure he was crowded at times when he got the ball. We certainly dont see more than a double up defending on Dalot's side. It was also 24% down the right against City, where he played well. But 32% against Plzen, 26% against Bournemouth... It was actually 41% and higher than the left side against Wolves but im sure thats because Bruno got sent off.

Bad timing by the club again. Diallo has been our best player this season but it is still a fairly small sample size, we don't know if he can sustain it or continue to improve, ideally you wouldn't be throwing a huge wage at a kid with 3 months of promising form, another Ten Hag masterpiece.

Yeah for sure. It started a few games ago, lets face it, not just us fans watching us on a regular basis. Opponents know our form, know the capabilities. They know, there is next to no x-factor in the team and in a game without Bruno, they could be even more secure and gang up on Amad. I think though, that this is a necessary challenge, maybe that is one of the aspects that others describe when they talk about 2nd season syndrome. But at the end of the day, when younger players become regulars then opponents will start to prepare. It is only natural. Which is why we should save ourselves the time to speculate whether his great form is over and whether he should start or not: of course he should start because he is one of the few players in our team worth investing time into.

There is a happy medium though. Otherwise, I hope the decision makers are sensible and ready, not to get fleeced. This is what we got wrong too often. But it is part of taking the medicine. Amad certainly deserves a substantial raise when he becomes a 1st team regular. But he doesn't deserve top club money yet. Especially given that we aren't a top club these days. Time to make the right decisions. But I am fairly optimistic that this is something Berrarda will handle correctly. And at the end of the day, there is always performance based add-ons.

Yeah he got mugged not far outside our box at one point (lay down on the ground for ages after getting tackled) when he ignored a really straightforward pass to Casemiro and gifted Newcastle a very dangerous situation. He’s definitely having a dip in form in the last few games. This happens with young players. But it’s a bit of a disaster when it happens to us because we’re so over reliant on young players.

Not saying you're wrong but it is easy to say he should release the ball early. The majority of the time the early option in this current line up is a backwards pass, it's not as if he is overlooking potential quick through balls by holding on to the ball. The formation as it is being played at the moment is leaving him isolated with very few progressive passing options and very few opportunities to be 1 v 1 with the opposition fullback. Him holding onto the ball a little longer to see if a pass opens up I am fine with as either way 90% of the time the ball goes backwards and we start with a slow build up again. I think he's shown enough to see that if there are opportunities to be progressive with his passing whether in the pace or direction of his passing he will likely choose that option. As it stands, those opportunities very rarely pop up at the moment.

Offer him a sensible performance based contract with a competitve wage to similar PL players at other clubs. If he doesn't take it, he doesn't take it. It's time for us to change with the mental contracts.

I also think Amorim has pushed us to slow down in the final 3rd because we rush it so much.

Show me the full pitch and I can promise you that if 4 Newcastle players are that close to him (but none within 4 yards), there are United players in space.

Just watched, Maz is behind him, conveniently removed from the pic, Maz then has a simple ball inside on to Mainoo. Amad’s obviously been our best player this year but here he took a few too many touches before moving the ball on.
In these situations we should be delighted when a side push so many on Amad and should be planning on switching over the play as fast as possible to create a 2 v 1 on the opposite side.
