Exactly, I'd understand it to an extent if it came from a former great but Matic? He's in no position to be talking about anyone's performance for this club.
If only the rest of them had the privilege of a rock solid defence led by Harry fecking Maguire in front of them, and had spent the majority of their performances under ETH's crazy tactics.
What are you on about? Need I remind you who was in front of DDG for most of his time here? Smalling, Rojo, Baily, later the aforementioned Maguire. Oh and let's not forget, DDG had no proper fullbacks, we had Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia filling in those roles.
Why is everyone mad at Matic? If Onana was half decent Matic wouldn't have ammo to shoot at him, would he now?
DDG played in a counter attack team for all of his time here, I expected his stats to be a lot better but the reality is pre WC18 he was awesome and the last 4-5 seasons he was inconsistent with some horrible lows and clangers just as bad as Onana.
Looking at those stats though, barthez is lucky people seemed to like him. He played with a top level team and was pretty crap statistically.

Yes, Matic is wrong. While Onana leaves a lot to be desired, he's not the worst goalkeeper in our history.
Our Post-Shot xG in this season and the last (PL only) is > 100. In 69 games, our defence actually "deserves" to have conceded 100 goals. Let that sink in for a moment.

This is a difficult one, because the eye test for me agrees with Matic. I’ve never seen a keeper parry as many shots as him or make so many costly errors in such a short space of time as the standout number one, but it coincides with the worst outfield side we’ve ever had.
I think Matic goes too far with his comments, but also isn’t far off. We’re talking about a keeper who picks the ball out of his net every 63 minutes and is the only keeper I’ve ever seen come out and say they need to get better.
I don’t know whether Onana was posed a question or made a remark off his own back, but it’s also idiotic to discuss us being better in a presser when we’re at the lowest point in modern history. Talking about wanting to be better and doing better is fine but beyond that, just keep it completely humble imo.
For me he’s one of the first players I’d like the club to replace up there with Hojlund, so I find it difficult to ‘back him’ even if Matic is out of order.

That definitely won't happen, never seen a goalkeeper play so small or with such fear of contact.

What Matic said was factual. He is probably the worst all things considered in the PL era. Taibi and Carroll did not cost £50m and Onana is good for a minimum of two brain farts per game. He is the last person in this team I want to hear anything from. Just keep quiet and actually do your job without any mistakes for once and then maybe other people won't find any holes in your game.

De Gea, for example, had a negative PSxG in the five out of his last six seasons at the club. That would have translated to more than 100 goals conceded under the same circumstances.
Barthez (who never looked calm and secure in a title-challenging side) would have been annihilated and suffering from PTSD with last season's tactics.

I know. Stats that don't agree with the infamous "eye-test" are always meaningless. I never claimed that he is good enough or an upgrade on prime De Gea. But you do you.

If it wasn't for Onana, we would never see goals during our games. So relax on the criticism guys
The last five seasons of his United career, De Gea was average at best (at this level). Being jobless for a year and then signing for a midtable club in Serie A serves as an indication of that. So, it's not just the models, the football world seemed to think the same, too. Onana has been poor thus far. I just pointed out that he hasn't "cost" us that much to be labelled the worst keeper in United's history.

I referred to professional athletes in generally, not one player in particular. Imagine if you're Lionel Messi or anyone and you decide to have a go at a particular player you've never met before. That would be poor form. On the hand, if that other player went into you with studs up or called you mum a pole smoker, then by all means have at it. That other player drew first blood and deserves what he gets in return. This whole tit for tat is ridiculous and needs to be buried.
Any stats to back that? De Gea used to single handily keep us in games hence why he won player of the year awards

True, and at the same time it's true that we would be better off without Onana, and his quote about the club being commercially-focused is spot on.
Not his place to be saying those things in a presser, but it's all part of the mind games. Ironically, I would hope that his comments would put some more heat on Onana to actually come good consistently (which we've been waiting on for 2.5 seasons now) or be shipped out.
A thousand times this. Onana may indeed be the worst but he's had good patches of form. You can't say that a players is shit on television after spending 5 years here at the club.
