His great game against Groningen aside, you would still be mental to pay 80million for him. He was absolutely balls against Fortuna fecking Sittard just a week before. He's amazing on his day, but so far unproven to be consistent in his brilliance. For around half this price he would be a great gamble to take, but 80 million? Get out.

If there's something the transfers of Vd Beek, Ziyech, Klaassen, Vincent Janssen, Jahanbakhsh, Berghuis, Ruiz, Afonso Alves, Luuk de Jong, Siem de Jong and 50 million other Eredivisie signings have shown, it is that it means feck all how good you were in our silly little league. It's a different sport.

That's quite frankly the club's fault for not registering serious interest before Ajax got their first team picked apart. Going into a season with Rashford / Sancho who have neither shown great form in the last 12 months puts the club in a position of desperation. United already got fleeced for Martinez. The consensus that Murtough is going about business in a wise manner will hit home hard when the transfer window is shut and the likes of Fred / Mctomminay are still running the midfield. It's intriguing to hear what excuse will come out the club's board when this happens.
Great, but we didn’t so that doesn’t mean we should go spend 80 now.

We as fans go from decrying a lack of investment one second to criticising too much money being misspent on players the next. We need investment but smart investment, not reactive and damaging to future negotiations.

You are speaking to a wall. Some desperate transfer muppets won't listen.

Yes, have you seen the first two games?
Yes and I don’t think a talented yet inconsistent player from the Dutch league saddled with the pressure of an overinflated price tag will change much in the short to medium term. Apart from making it harder to buy other players.

Should have been signed months ago. That we dont pursue other options shows the quality of this club

We need attackers, we haven't scored a goal yet and barely look like doing.

O
Transfer request?
Ok, so:
1. he is in a marvelous team at the moment,
2. WC ahead a couple of months with huge possibilities to show yourself
3. definately will shine in the CL
4. be sure of a starter position.
5. Proper salary

Against:
1. A team in bad weather
2. Not sure for a starter position (always need to prove yourself in a new team)
3. No CL
4. A million or 2 more salary?
5. Play in de EPL.

Why would it be so straight forward to expect a transfer request?

I would bet they’ve already identified one. They are much better organised in the market than we are.
Ajax has one in Conceicao (and also Ihattaren, berghuis (although not as good as Antony) and Unuvar possibly), but he needs to be given time to accomodate to the RW position at Ajax. Will be given that time this year and can then compete with the other contenders for the starting position

Maybe now the Gakpo links makes sense. We sign Gakpo and use him as a makeweight in the Antony deal because I assume PSV won’t sell directly to Ajax. 4D chess by Murtough!
That would bea good deal and maybe even possible for quite a bit less then 40m.
Though, Gakpo is more fragile then Antony...

Imagine if multiple of these ridiculous offers are accepted. I can just picture Murtough and Arnold in a room for hours trying to work out what to do next.
