One is pure madman whilst other one has zero anticipation when it comes to heading and was the sole culprit for their goal.
He can come good. Like many defenders before him,he has one rash challenge in him per gameBailly was too eager to impress. Otherwise he had a good game. As did Lindeloff. The issue is neither is an organiser so become a mess at set pieces.
Yeah I feel the same. I really like Bailly and I think there's a top CB in there, but low on confidence + predisposition to rash challenges is making for a bad combination.Bailly shit the bed today. Massive shame. He was excellent in what was an easy game for him but what a ridiculous red card to get (and there was no disputing it). That was his chance to stamp down his place and he let the team down needlessly and gave OGS reason to question his worth. Absolute fool. He could have made a case to start every game for the rest of the season, now he’s back to square one.
Our scouting has been atrocious since turn of this decade. Perfect recipe for failure. It is just amazing how top club can have 5 central defenders and neither of them is complete. What a crazy bunch.
Bailly isn't fit to lace Rio's boots let alone gain his understanding of the game.Bailly needs to watch hours and hours of Rio playing for us and realise that you barely need to tackle at centre back let alone sliding tackles on the half way line. You can block all you like but tackling is seldom needed.
..... and 2 of those aren’t even natural defenders. After X amount of years and Y amount of players you can still make a case that Valencia, Smalling, Jones and Young is our best back 4.
Disagree with you there. The shocking thing is that it’s not as far off as it should be but our best back 4 is clearly:After X amount of years and Y amount of players you can still make a case that Valencia, Smalling, Jones and Young is our best back 4.
Agreed. Lindelof's lack of aerial ability is a concern but much less of one when he's paired with Smalling, who has the best defensive credentials at the club. On paper Lindelof-Bailly seems exciting but neither of them seem to be able to turn in a complete 90 minutes without someone holding their hand. You can tell why Jose wanted to add a proper commanding centre back, it's a worry how little leadership and composure we have back there.Bailly shit the bed today. Massive shame. true and you only need to look at the impact VVD made on that Liverpool defenceall 5 defenders are average, and each of them would be much better under a wc CB. Remember when rio played with evans, or Vidic with jones, or Rio with smalling. The defence was still very good.
He could easily have been sent off for that high foot earlier on if the ref had seen it. He likes to put it about. He can come good. Like many defenders before him,he has one rash challenge in him per game
Well then we have to ask questions of the scouts and recruitment team. Jose is the one who tried to sign a dominant CB this summer just gone. When he spoke about Diop he praised the West Ham scouts for finding someone who won everything in he air. When he spoke about signings he said he wasn't a scout but understood the Portuguese market and so was aware of Lindelof and Dalot. This is why I'm so glad Woodward didn't give Jose anymore money to spend, the guy has left us with more problems than solutions. Why did he buy two CBs that have the same weaknesses?
Actually, they were more like the forgetful Rio and Vidic with a head injury so seriously handicapped.Poor man's Vidic and Rio. Need better CBs to compete for the title.
He panicked far too much for what should have been a very easy game - we weren't troubled in the air, and we defended well otherwise. His passing was so pedestrian.Lindelöf has got better but it worried me a bit yesterday the way he hacked the ball away barely under any pressure and pretty much took Shaw out in the process. I'd expect that level of defender for the five a side team I play for not in a side at the highest level.
That phrase makes me think of Pique's struggles here before becoming a world beater almost immediately upon returning to Barcelona.Lindelof is a good defender but as Ole said in his post-match he's more of a cultured European defender or...in other words....he's not built for a cold Tuesday night in Stoke when the balls are coming in high
Jones should be the first one out the door, his injury record is atrocious. It makes no sense he is still at this club.Neither are good enough for us.
Smalling is our no1. He's no vanDyke but he'll do. If we could get Maguire beside him and keep Jones as a back up I for one would be happy.
