Just a thought as we seem to be losing Pavard now but Sergio Ramos is available on a free, plenty of experience and a one year stop gap until we properly fill the position next summer.

I sincerely believe Chelsea would have had zero problems with getting rid of Maguire. Its about getting things done, there's always a way.
Based on letting Ziyech go on a free loan/potentially free transfer? Or them constantly loaning out players they can't get rid of? Or Lukaku and Hudson-Odoi still being Chelsea players?

Another good player gone whilst we continue to fumble about, maybe if we get Todibo or Tapisoba then it'll be alright but that seems unlikely also.
I wish the fans would hound bighead out of the club. He's pretty much fecked us over.

If the club engaged in active and effective future planning, we wouldn't be in this position.

I'm actually relieved Pavard has sealed a move elsewhere, I was never convinced by his displays whenever I watched him.

I feel we need an actual specialist center back to not only provide cover for Varane but to challenge him. Todibo, Tapsoba or another player of similar ilk, age and stylistic profile would be ideal

I think Pavard would help the system work quite a bit as he would be adept at inverting into the middle alongside Casemiro. It would then mean Shaw would bomb up forward, and Garnacho/Rashford would have more space due to overloads.

We absolutely need a midfielder and right back who can keep the ball under pressure.

Signing for £27.3m to Inter. Crazy that we need to sell to afford that.

I don't think Pavard was of the desired quality to be a huge miss to the extent that KMJ was. The fact people dismiss Gravenburch for not having a good season, but then Pavard despite a multitude of years at Bayern has always fell further down the pecking order due to the amount of investment the club have made in central defence, signifies that they were not content with him as a regular in that position.

If we hadn't wasted hundreds of millions on dross like Maguire, Antony, and Sancho (among many others) we could've afforded Pavard, as well as many other (better) players. Unfortunately our funds aren't infinite. We have to make do with what we have

I think it's a case of holding onto average players in the same positions as upgrades are needed. This is why Pavard won't be our inverted fullback because one of AWB and Dalot won't feck off. And that Dalot has signed a 5 year renewal but AWB hasn't speaks volume. AWB is the RB that DDG was gk. Upgrade needed urgently as the system eth wants to play can not work without the inverted rb.

This is simply not true. To be exact: it is a blatant lie. Pavard is Bayern’s starting RB/RCB and they would love to keep him.

The reports seem to suggest otherwise, if he's playing as a regular in his natural position why is he insistent on leaving?

I‘d love to see those „reports“.

He is looking for a new challenge after basically spending all of his years as a professional footballer in Germany (Stuttgart and Munich) and winning everything.

But you can obviously continue to claim otherwise.

Think we swerved one here tbh. We need a quicker more mobile defender.

A very annoying one to miss out on here, would have helped to solve a couple of issues in the squad.

If the takeover had happen before the window, maybe we would have gotten in Kim (gone to bayern) and Pavard (gone to inter). Our defence would be so much stronger. Sigh.

He’s better than any defender we bring in from now until the close of the window.

Lost out on Min Jae, Pavard, Todibo and Amrabat. Instead, we kept Maguire and McTominay. Class management team we have.
What’s happened to the money this year? All summer we’ve been told we’re broke, is it FFP, is it Glazernomics, both? Don’t we create the most revenue out of anyone? We’re Manchester United and we’re scrambling around trying to find change down the back of the sofa so we can plug a gaping hole in midfield.

Have we? As far as I was aware they’re still at their respective clubs and haven’t moved yet.

Most annoying thing about this thread is having made posts in it.

Should have known better than to think things would work out to the positive. -_-

I think its because of last year spending

We did it the United way didn’t we? Missing out all our defensive targets and stick to Maguire Mctominay probably until their contracts run out.

Your net spend is €150m this summer and was €220m last summer.
By comparison Bayern’s is €50m and €40m.

It is a ridiculous difference.

People pretend that they don't understand why at some point United can't spend. The answer is that United spend everything it has nearly every year and that's far more than most clubs. On top of that United has a large squad and in defense we still have Bailly and Maguire under contract.

And they are shit at selling due to handing out big longterm contracts to old or average players.

Yea, Ajax fecked us big time last year. And probably it was the reason Glazers decided to sell. (Failure of super league is another reason).

This can’t be an excuse not to get Pavard or Kim… These two are undoubtedly much better players…

It's not an excuse, it's the reality of our team. The reality of the matter is that those players cost money and we are not in a situation where we can pretend that we are an endless pit of money. Our past transfer mistakes and tendency to cling on players too long is the reason why we can't sell them to raise money without having to also pay the players. It's something that happens to nearly everyone at some point and it could actually be worse in a future summer.
