Benjamin Sesko | Salzburg | Leipzig

Credit where it's due, you did commit your faith in him to this forum, even in a season where he only managed 6 league goals.

Haha you actually went digging

That's a puzzling take seeing watching him for 5 minutes will turn up plenty of such suggestions

Nothing puzzling about it, despite having a poor season Hojlund has shown more over the course of his career so far in term of what we need than Sesko has and at a higher level. Put Rasmus in the Bundesliga (preferably with a decent club) and his season looks completely different and we'd probably all be wondering why United don't go for him.

At this point we currently have two prospects for the one striker position in Chido who is a little too young though greatly promising and the other who isn't quite ready to start week in week out and was actually bought as a rotation player/impact sub(and argubly would have impressed much more from that position) before we realised we had run out of money for a senior striker. We dont need another prospect which is what Sesko is.

I thought it would've been really funny if you had a post from when Newcastle signed him saying he was shite and overpriced but alas not to be on this occasion.

Which, taking into account of BVB's recent history with talented young players, is kind of confusing.
Looking specifically at strikers it is less surprising, they had as many failed transfers for that position as successful. Thinking of Immobile here as the worst example.

To think the United board wouldn't stretch to €2m to sign him, whilst Hoogewerf who we signed instead has gone on to achieve nothing.

Ok. Let's agree to disagree on all about that first paragraph.

Second part, I agree we shouldn't be going for Sesko or any other prospect striker.

Even though he is a far greater talent than Hojlund.

I wouldn't see Sesko as a prospect signing. Is already scoring regularly and is ready for the next step, similar to when Isak went to Newcastle. Got way more natural talent than Delap or Hojlund that's for sure.

Would we have any chance to get him? Looking at the younger CF talents, he seems to have more quality on the ball than most.

From reading about Sesko from people that watch him regularly, he seems to have the ability to do the spectacular but that his shooting is not consistent at all and that his movement in the box is terrible - allergic to the side-footed tap in. Hence, his highlights look amazing but for fans, he's incredibly frustrating. Probably the sort of player that could get a decent amount of goals for the likes of Arsenal but would stink the place up for us.

Pretty much my impression of him as well. I don't exactly follow Leipzig but still end up seeing a lot of their games, but he's a highlights player

My favorite young striker, what’s the fee being touted?
North of 80M. He has a release clause which has some weird sliding scale based on how the team has performed. CL Qualification pushed the price up it seems. Sesko himself is being quite deliberate about his career moves too so it would not just be a case of meeting the fee but also persuading him that the move is right for his career.

Zero chance he would be coming to United currently. Amazed he is even considered an option on any sort of shortlist, does not bode well.

Will likely go to Arsenal if they front up the money. Shame, would really love him here.

He's still more potential than current ability. Think he'll be a quality CF in 3-4 years but very raw whenever I've seen him still. Capable of great goals and shows his talent in spurts, but he wouldn't be an automatic starter at Arsenal yet and that's too soon for him IMO.

yeah still more of a prospect which will not improve Arsenal much but plenty of potential to go Isac, Haaland way, but also not a zero chance he will get stuck and start struggling like Hojlund..

The big question with Sesko is why he doesn't get more touches in the box. He takes shots at a good rate given his number of touches, he converts shots at a good rate given the number that he takes. He has all the tools you would want in a striker - shooting with thunder off both feet, a monster in the air, good hold up play in the middle third, works hard out of possession.

But he just doesn't touch the ball nearly enough in the box, especially this past year. If that's mainly a system problem and he'll get on the end of a lot more in a different system, he's going to blow up and be one of the best 9s in the world. But if its mainly a Sesko problem - he doesn't have the instincts to find space and predict where the ball will go, the hunger to get on the end of chances, etc - then he'll never be top level even with all his other attributes.
