feck off, now I'm going to be reminded of that every time he says something.I've just realised who Booker sounds like. Joel McHale.
Other than that though, this game is fantastic. Anyone know how long its meant to be?

Nah, you should get it. It's alright so far, though I'm wary of those high review scores.A.I largely terrible as opposed to what other console game?
I'm not getting it lambs.
Nope mate, beat you to it. This is what I posted a page back:Sooooo, am I once again the first person to point out a highly rated (well, at least paid for) reviewed game isn't actually that good on here?
Because it's not really. It's pretty dull compared to even Bioshock 2.
Then again I've only just got Shock jockey, so I'm relying on people to tell me it gets much harder and more complex!
My view hasn't gotten any better the further I've gone. Mind you, I'm also at roughly the same point in the game so who knows it might get better still. Though looking at Gamefront's brutally honest review (as always they're later than all other sites because they have to wait for the retail) they say almost exactly the same as what I said earlier. Clearly, the 10/10's on release day (like Eurogamer who always claim to be so critical) are fishy scores.I'm a bit further into it now and while it's very enjoyable, it lacks something compared to Bioshock. The introduction of the Vigors feels a bit random, as opposed to the Plasmids that made sense in Rapture. The fighting is less varied, there seem to be less gameplay elements and the enemies just aren't as convincing as Bioshock's splicers.
This may all sound a bit negative, but I'm still enjoying it. I guess more than anything it just reminds me of what a landmark game the original Bioshock was.
Ahh, good man!Nope mate, beat you to it. This is what I posted a page back:
Well, the reviews were always going to be dodgy. They haven't spent the bullshit rumour amount on the game and advertising, but they've spent a fair few pennies that's for sure.My view hasn't gotten any better the further I've gone. The whole game is disjointed, not just the powers.I was watching some of my daily Youtube pickup videos and someone that got it said that it starts good but turns into Call of Duty in the sky, just shooting things over and over. Also said that the plasmids (can't remember their new name) don't fit in like they did in the original and seem a bit out of place. That sound fair?
Ah, disappointing. Well I guess I've just decided when I'm going to get it... when it's very cheap. The whole game is disjointed, not just the powers.
The weapons aren't balanced, nor are they varied (seriously a pistol is pretty much the same as a rifle in this), the setting is only interesting at the start, the character models are poor, the A.I is shocking and even basic collision detection is a problem.
The early videos and promises of an 'interactive environment' show just what happens when a budget grows too large and the game has to be rushed to be finished.
Even the glorified racism and religion bashing is just, well, weak.
Oh and I won't use the term 'dumbed down' because it offends a few sensitive souls, but fecking hell I challenge anyone to argue the gunplay feels even as good as a COD game.
Did they really promise that? Because this is an extremely rigid game in terms of environments. The early videos and promises of an 'interactive environment' show just what happens when a budget grows too large and the game has to be rushed to be finished.
Yeah ,I kinda get that feeling. The gameplay feels like timesplitters is what I meant. Arcade-y
What do you mean by that? There's nothing like blink in the game. You're nearly at the halfway mark and where the story really starts to kick in.Redlambs said:But even as a standalone game, it's just pretty much got nothing new or fresh and even those things it does try to emulate (like Dishonored's Blink) it does in such a poor way. Plus the levels are just tired set pieces we haven't played a million times before, there's no replayability or anything really worth seeing twice.
Not me in any case, I consider it an all time classic. And I've played it several times, including fairly recently, so it's not just from warped memory. It may not have been a revolutionary game or anything, but as far as execution goes it's near perfection for me.Anyone else think the first one is vastly overrated? I enjoyed but come on...
I think it's an exceptional game, but over-rated by console gamers (who place it near the top of "best of all time" lists) because they'd never encountered anything like it before.Anyone else think the first one is vastly overrated? I enjoyed but come on...
99 mode isn't much harder than hard, the only real difference is death costs you 100 coins and if you've not got enough then it's gameover and you restart from the last proper save. Also enemies come back with full health, not just partially restored.Major spoliers here:
I thought the game was great, one of the best I have played in recent years. The ending was especially good, I never saw it coming. I thought that Elizabeth's little finger getting cut off was a clever plot device and after reading up online I have got my head around the basic meaning of the ending.
Some people are looking deeper into all the possible meanings with all the different Bioshock universes and this type of stuff makes my brain hurt, I just get lost in it. It reminds of the reaction to the Mass effect 3 ending (although make no mistake this one was a lot better).
I enjoyed it so much I might give the game another play through, has anyone played 1999 mode? How hard is it?
Not vastly, but people kind of look back too fondly on it as a game. Rapture though, well that's something else.Anyone else think the first one is vastly overrated? I enjoyed but come on...
Definitely agree.I think it's an exceptional game, but over-rated by console gamers (who place it near the top of "best of all time" lists) because they'd never encountered anything like it before.
You know what, as harsh as I come across sometimes, I do respect your opinion. It's clear you are a gamer and love games, so please don't take anything else I say to heart because I'm not looking down on your tastes at all. Bioshock 1, and yes even this are good games and are much more fun that most.Bioshock 1 for me would be a 10/10 game. I am only half way through this and I'm already thinking it will be an 8 or 9.
It's fantastic.
You see I know jaff all about the technical side of things so can't comment on that, but I'll remember this game like I do the original, for a fantastic story and setting more than fantastic gameplay. The ending really is great.Bottom line is this game is years older than Bioshock, and much older than System Shock. And it's not even close to living up to them, it's more a backwards step than a forwards one, it certainly isn't even on the same level. Which is a big shame, and when the hype dies down I'd bet good money people will look back and agree.
Yep. My main problem is it's ancient gameplay though. For all the cost and time, you'd think they'd at least make something that doesn't have 15 year old gameplay. You see I know jaff all about the technical side of things so can't comment on that, but I'll remember this game like I do the original, for a fantastic story and setting more than fantastic gameplay. Oh I agree. But it is such a huge cheat rather than a decent sidekick, she bloody clips in through levels to you half the time! And if they did make Elizabeth vulnerable and the enemies target her, she'd die in seconds and it'd be a pain in the arse. I don't know if you've played NeverDead (I wouldn't blame you if you hadn't!) but that has an AI partner that is quite weak and the enemies target her, she dies constantly and makes things god awful. One of many things that makes that game annoying.
Not really, both the idea and gameplay mechanic has been done before.I'm nearing the end now. Still really enjoying it. The tear thing is quite novel, for a game isn't it?
That's kind of depressing Lambo. I am now in doubt if I have to play it this week, or to leave it for a few months later. Bioshock 2 was very repetitive and didn't liked it at all, and saying that this is more dull, well, it's not that good.Sooooo, am I once again the first person to point out a highly rated (well, at least paid for) reviewed game isn't actually that good on here?
