I am torn. I still believe Bruno could be much better in a new setup that doesn't offer him complete freedom. On the other hand if we get in someone like Wirz and sell Bruno I believe it would elevate our team.

While he has qualities, he also has flaws that are just not a good match with the highest level. He isn't an elite technician nor is he an elite athlete, he lacks power, balance and agility while also lacking high level dribbling ability and first touch. He is a good player but he is typically the type of player that you do not hang on to as a prospective top team because his level is low level CL/high level EL, I would say the same for Rashford and few other players in our team.

In other words I agree with you, there are better players that could replace him and in my opinion they would elevate the team.

Totally agree. The issue is that our recruitment is generally so poor that anybody performing decently / well whether they have a skillet suitable for a top team or not, tend to be placed on a pedestal. Ineos getting recruitment spot on this summer (including the manager) is crucial because only then will you have the conviction of following a lofty vision that entails replacing big names who don’t fit in with the envisioned future. If we keep making mistakes in how we build the team, we’ll continue to hang on to anyone who can give us something.

The formation and style of play doesn’t suit Bruno. Look at his performances in a national shirt - they build play through him, rather than asking him to pump it aimlessly into the box or froward each time. He’s no doubt a great player but for this United side he isn’t. His stats are nowhere near representative of his output and contribution in the pitch.

To make an NBA analogy he's like Russell Westbrook, he's a floor raiser for a mediocre team but not a ceiling raiser - or a title winning player. Wasteful turnovers are an absolute morale killer in big games and he's a pro at them.

Exactly to me he isn't better than the likes of Julio Baptista, Micoud, Diego or similar players who were objectively good but also clearly a level or two below key players for elite teams. If you want to reach that next level, you generally have to either reduce these players' role or completely move on.

Also agree to this.

Bruno could've had more good games this season, had ETH been less bad as a manager. The Chelsea game is definitely one of his better game this season, if Dallot had not committed that penalty and not lost, people would've been less harsh toward Bruno.

The thing that bothers me more is him being a captain. He is no captain material. Being captain, he needs to be prudent as a match winner, even if we have to play a little dirty (aka. slow down the play, pass the ball around etc.). That is his job to yell at the troop to protect the lead. He, instead, is loose canon himself who lose the ball for no reason at crucial time, let alone telling his teammates what to do as captain.
He has also become a poorer player since he had the captaincy.

This is my first post, sorry it's not a complementary one but, all I've seen from Fernandes since he came to United is a self-centred egotist, never liked him since he scored an equaliser v Wolves (I think) near the end of the game during Lockdown, he tipped his imaginary cap to the camera closeup then Wolves went up the other end & scored. Imagine Mark Hughes or Rooney doing that? They'd be grabbing the ball & busting a gut to get back to restart the game.....He's NOT a leader by any sense of the imagination & as long as he's IN the side Ten Hag or whoever it is in charge will be in the crap, all the madness rotates around him & his inflated, imaginary image of himself as a Don or whatever he's convinced himself of being. ALL the opposing teams KNOW this thus he's targeted, he's easily brushed off the ball (he'll see it as attention because of his skills) so if I were an opposing player I'd be licking my chops if I saw him on the team sheet so I can't for the life of me see what others see in him......he's a massive detriment for many reasons in other words, just my opinion!

He is definitely poorer since captaincy.

We need one of the signing next season to have captainship material. If you ask me who should be the captain in the current squad I have no idea who should replace Bruno to be captain either.

Nor me regarding the captaincy as we dont know who will be here next season. Casemiro Verane Evans will probably be gone. Rashford should be moved on and certainly not considered even if he stays. None of the rest inspire me.

I've been very critical of him for the past year, but today I feel like he has a big performance in him. He is due 1.

Do you guys remember his free kick against Liverpool in the FA cup a couple of years back? I'm envinsioning a repeat of that (hopefully manifesting into reality :p)

I'm expecting absolutely nothing from him today as per usual. Let's hope he can surprise me.

It’s going to be another one of those games where he gets wound up too much, to the point his presence on the pitch is detrimental.

Man Utd 2:2 Liverpool

You know what, I'll take it.

Yes he was shyte other than the goal, but that finish was phenomenal

Took the goal well but feck me he’s just not good enough lately

He’s always been a risk taker but it’s worse than that he’s become so sloppy the amount of times he loses the ball is ridiculous

He's a hell of a player but not the right player for modern 2024 football.

He'd be Balon D'or contender twenty years ago.

Great finish but he kills nearly every attack we have and has some of the worst ball retention you'll ever see at this level.

Our rebuild shouldn't involve him or any player who can't keep possession of a football.

:lol::lol::lol: Not that i care for that award but the winners 20 years ago were Nedved, Schevchenko and Ronaldinho. Bruno will never be on that level even in his dreams

Brilliant goal, brilliant work rate. The player who is most affected by a totally open midfield behind him. A top class casemiro next to mainoo makes his life a million times easier

He was shite. Like awful in the first half. Great goal though

Tell me you didn't watch football twenty years ago without telling me.

Comparing bruno to players like Nedved, Sheva, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Zidane etc is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard

Nice goal. Killed every promising counter attack. Every single one. Unreal.

Shambolic performance as usual. His reputation is based purely on his form from his first 12/18 months here. He’s been living of off that for years now.

We’ll be a far better team the day he leaves.

Contender not bloody winner. The space in the game historically would be brilliant for a #10 who scores and assists loads.

Also Shevchenko was probably a tad overrated, playing in a terrific, overpowered Milan team. He also failed in a league with actual pace.

Amazing goal, great running as usual and stopped a near certain Salah goal with an interception

Some clown in the match day thread said everyone could have scored it. Keane says that only he could have done it. Weird huh.

And they are both obviously wrong. Plenty of players have scored similar goals by the way. Completely open goal middle of the pitch

Scored a vital goal and made some decent defensive contributions particularly on Salah who was bearing down on goal. Better than expected based on his recent form.

Intense competition with Casemiro on giving the ball away and most importantly, control, away. Agents of chaos

Poor on attack, just like most of this season . But you gotta give him he saved at least 2 clear liverpool opportunities tracking back to our box. Im afraid if we drop him there's no one else with that work rate on our squad

Utterly atrocious in the first half, gifted a goal (albeit extremely well taken) and then saved us a few times as the last man which is crazy in itself.
Needs to be moved on though, not good enough although can’t fault the effort, even though a lot of it is unnecessary and misplaced
