Bruno Fernandes Out? | Staying at Man United

What parts you disagree with and can you back up with substance?

Main points

Bruno doesn’t ’maintain high performance levels over season and has spells of poor performance’

In Bruno’s time we have got progressively worse

Chances created can be result of high risk passing on regular basis and at times be detrimental

Goals and assists tend to follow pattern through seasons. Very few in first half of season, with typical poor performances. Boosted by purple patch.

He’s been poor in many big games over spell.

His record in cup finals is not great.

We won’t finish lower without him.

Would be better if as admin you practice what is preached perhaps? Rather than snarky one line response to others.

Despite all these points, the majority of the fan base is in raptures at him staying

The money would have been great and I don't like Bruno in a midfield two at all, but I feel like him leaving this season would be too destabilising for the team given where we are in this rebuild.

The club wouldn’t stand in his way of a £100m and £700k a week Saudi move. They’ll definitely negotiate much harder if he wants to move somewhere else in Europe and not accept any lowball offers.

That’s assuming anyone in Europe will even come close to offering what we want.

There’s no one offering anywhere near £80M for Bruno in Europe.

It’s over

There's more to playing CM in a midfield 2 than pass completion, this is why stats only tell half the story.

He's not very press resistant and treats the ball like hot coals when under pressure which leads to situations like the EL final which are mistakes that are extremely costly. He doesn't have the possession or technical skillset to play the position.

If we are going to keep him he needs to play further up the pitch where you make best use of his skillset. If we start with him as CM next season we will be just as dysfunctional.

I mean your statements run contrary to the objectives facts I've just given you. If he isn't good at possession and treats it like hot coals his pass completion would not be high. He was tackled on the ball 33 times last season, Ederson (again a favoured target here) was tackled 28 times despite sitting deeper.

He made 1 mistake leading to a goal in the league according to the PL.

It seems a lot like some of you can only remember as far back as the EL final and that's all you have to argue on.

Kudos to Bruno, but it’s fecking insane to turn down that offer

He's already extremely rich and he actually cares about playing serious, competitive football at the top level. Family are all presumably well settled in England. I always expected him to turn it down, it's not like he won't get the chance to make a similar move later in his career

He won’t get that kind of money later, but your other points are of course sensible. That said, there is a vast difference between «PL rich» and that sort of generational wealth!

In a midfield 2 his whole time here?
If you have watched him over his time with us you will see he has played in a variety of positions in the midfield and he is one of the most versatile I have seen.
He is a multi functional midfielder and I will leave it at that.

Brilliant news, sure the usual suspects on here will be upset but fantastic to see our captain and a world class talent like him reject it. Tbh it always felt it would go that way, he comes across as a player wanting to play at the top level that loves the football too. Time to build around him.

This man is the reason we are anything other than a completely irrelevant bottom half PL team who will finish in the bottom half of the PL again next year. Our only unequivocally top class footballer (amongst a handful who are good or very promising, admittedly), the most creative player in the PL since he joined, our most committed, hardest working player. Plays as much football as any top footballer in the world and never once complains - in fact, it seems he hates to be left out of any game, no matter how inconsequential. The 'who would be captain if Bruno leaves' thread shows how spineless we would be without him.

If a big European club comes for him, I'll wish him well. He'd deserve it. At Madrid or Bayern or Barca or PSG he'd have got a hatful of trophies and would be going down as one of the best of his generation. Just imagine what his assist stats would be like if he'd spent the last five years at Madrid. Instead he's grafted and struggled through our doldrum years with us. And ultimately he's given us his career, because no European club is going to offer the kind of fee we'd demand for a 30-year-old. And thank god, because we're at the weakest, most precarious point in our history since relegation in '74, and losing really the only reliable foundation this squad has at this point could be catastrophic.

Rant over.

Spot on. Really pleased he's chosen not to sell out and presumably stick it out with us (although the wording of Fab's tweet is interesting). Let's hope he gets his Robson moment.

No, this is why stats can be so misleading. Giving the ball away and being poor under pressure doesn't always lead to goals conceded but what it does do is put the team on the back foot and breaks up rhythm and ultimately hinders progressive and cohesive football. I swear XG and stats have almost ruined the way people evaluate football these days. Put Bruno at CM in any good possession team e.g Barca and PSG and it would never work.

Kudos to Bruno, but it’s fecking insane to turn down that offer

I don’t consider it even slightly insane for one of the best players in Europe to not want to semi retire when he likely has years of top class football in him.

It’s not like his 300k /week is a struggle to live on. Guy is literally on 1.2mil /month as a top player at one of the biggest clubs on the planet.

Another stupid emotional decision. New owners just as dumb as the Glazers.
Looks like it’s the player’s decision. The money we’d get wouldn’t be enough to replace Bruno. He’s never injured, never tired, scores goals, creates assists, presses the opposition, and has the mental strength to handle playing for a club under scrutiny as much as ours.

In a midfield 2 his whole time here?
No, but that is where he will play in this system - which we aren't changing at all.

Cunha / New signing / Mount / Amad / Zirkzee and Mainoo will all play the 10 role before Bruno next season.

Bruno will be a CM - I feel like whoever he is partnered with is in for a torrid time of picking up his slack - much like then Pogba was here. Pogba needed someone to do the job of 2 cm's so he could hit the odd glory pass and claim to be world class. Fans will hate on Ugarte or Cas cos bruno cant be in the wrong, even though as a CM he isn't the best

I would imagine Bruno launching balls up to our two new number 10s will be a different proposition for the opposition. He is as close to a box to box playmaker as we have. It’s not perfect but he’s still our best player. Fair play to him for sticking around trying to get the club back on track. It’s a lot more gutsy than anything our star youth players have conjured up in the post Fergie years. He’s leading by example yet again.

He wants to play at the top level in Europe…

Doesn’t say anything about actually staying at United!!

Anyway, really pleased. We need him.

*surely we could have loaned him to them for the World Club Cup for £25m?!
I wish you are our DOF or CEO for last 12 years. I mean it in a positive way.

Bruno staying is a good news in short term, but it would have been good if he accepted that offer as we could use that money to bring in a good CM like Wharton/Baleba/Ederson to have more balance in the team.

For now its a win-win situation fir us. Imagine Cunha,Mbeuno,Bruno behind a proper number-9 with solid wing backs when we are chasing a game. Bring it on and we all deserve to feel this way and looking forward to next season.

The geezer has already earned more money than he or his family ever needs.....Like Caseimero, he probably doesn't want to or needs to be living a very sanitised, luxury life style in Saudi. People keep saying he could early silly money out there..he already earns silly money

So how the feck are we supposed to strengthen the team now when there is no money? Really hope the owners has some form of plan for this. A bit worried now.

This is a good news short-term and I really like Bruno, but part of me thinks that there are no immediate goals for us short term - we're not getting back to the CL next season I'm afraid - and he really isn't the best as a CM. We could've invested this money into more long-term prospect, but that would require competent scouting department and reliable structure, which we don't have. So I guess overall it's not a bad news, Bruno loves it here and knows that dreams can't be buy, even with Gulf oil money
