So its not happening? To be honest of all the transfers that never happened over the years, this one is not the worst considering the asking price, but at the same time we badly need some fresh legs right now
No signs of any progress here, player wants to come, Sporting need to sell, same old Ed making an easy transfer complicated.

If he were to sign, and pogba were to stay, how would we be lining up with a fully fit midfield?

In a 4-2-2-2 most likely, but the chances are remote. If we sign bruno then he's a direct replacement for pogba.

Senior Sporting officials, however, have not given up on concluding a deal with United. Varandas is said to ready to accept an offer that would deliver a guaranteed fee of €60m. United have been warned that other affluent clubs are ready to bid for the player in July once their Financial Fair Play budgets have been reset and that the current window represents United's best opportunity to secure Bruno's signature.

On Monday, sources in Lisbon expressed confidence that a compromise could be reached. United's need for attacking reinforcement has increased following Marcus Rashford's loss to a double stress fracture of his back that is expected to sideline the club's leading scorer for at least two months.

If the reports are right about the price we're asking for then you're right in not to sign him. We'll sell him in the summer anyway and we won't ask for as much then unless he gains value with the Europa League and the Euros.

I’m sure that the injury to Rashford is part of the reason these talks have stalled. The funds that were allocated for Bruno now have to be used to get a striker in.

This. I would rather we not get bullied into overpaying because we have a history of doing so. Ed might not be the most competent but im glad he is starting to take a stand against these thieves.

Where the grass is greener.
At the start of the month I expected no one, I did get sucked into this saga for sure, but I think I'm safely back in the not buying anyone camp. Another disastrous window by Woody.

Rashford isn't even a striker now anyway, he plays left wing. Not sure what signing Cavani or somebody will help in that sense, unless we push Martial back to LW.

Fernandes is a completely different issue to the striker problem anyway. Replacing Pereira should be the first worry.

I was never really in mate. I think we’ve always evaluated him as squad player quality and we are not looking to spend our budget on a player that we don’t expect to be first choice in 3 months time let alone 12.
Fair enough mate. I did think it was a goer when reported last week but starting to think it’s exactly as you say to be honest.

I have that feeling too, that he's a Dan James level signing from us. Great for the squad, right attitude, just not convinced he's first team long term but happy to take him at the right price and see how he does here.

The deal has never been dead. A stalemate in negotiations is so classic, particularly for us.

Hardly surprising that we can't get Bruno over the line when we can't even hire a physio:)

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5095061/celtic-manchester-united-tim-williamson/

CELTIC and Scotland physio Tim Williamson has told wannabe employers Manchester United to forget it.

Williamson was expected to move to Old Trafford as part of United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shake-up of the medical department.

But he became so frustrated with how long it was taking to finalise terms that he informed United earlier this month he would be staying at Celtic Park.

It is understood that United were supposed to contact Williamson on a specific date in order to discuss arrangements for his relocation.

When the call didn’t come, Williamson decided to end a saga that had lasted three months and left United to go back to the drawing board.

Solskjaer has been concerned by the number of soft tissue injuries that players have suffered since he replaced Jose Mourinho just over a year ago.

United will have to decide whether to re-interview previous candidates or to start the search all over again.

Jesus christ, how bad can the club get at recruiting? Everyone employed at the London Office needs replacing, way too disconnected from footballing matters.

Still another 10 days is it? They'll probably argue all week and then agree at the last minute.

Both clubs and the player want it done.
Exactly, frustrating and unnecessary but it's just the way we do things under the current system. Don't know why so many think otherwise.

Looks like Sporting outplaying their hand. If they stand firm this will not happen. I'm all for signings but he's not the only option. VDB and Grealish are also good options.

The only move that happened quickly smoothly with no saga was Ole.

Those guys won’t come until summer, and then it Is unlikely as we aren’t exactly hot property. Grealish will cost minimum £85m

The longer this drags on, the longer it will take for him to get in some training sessions and get adjusted to the teammates and the league when he plays. With the current spate of injuries it doesn't even make sense to drag heels when every point counts to champions league qualification. If United don't get CL, they can well forget their primary targets and go back to either signing back up choices or not doing business at all.

He'll be a squad physio anyway. Unproven in the best League in the world.
