8th > 7th.
I don’t get this mentality

Being out of Europe doesn’t help league position. It’s a myth. Ask spurs, us and Chelsea

I’d rather be in the conference league than nothing. It might be 90% boring but it would still be interesting in the semis and the final

I initially voted for 7th, but now it is time to revise to 8th.

Lowest point post-Fergie. I hope INEOS are serious about selling players.

There will be some who think they deserve CL football, so might make their job easier.
Maybe a silver lining! But the vast majority just seem to be happy enough being United players and just doing the minimum possible.

Although West Ham, Bournemouth & Brighton could mathematically overtake us and drop us lower than 8th, it's very unlikely looking at their fixtures..
We are more or less nailed on for no lower than 8th place.

Finishing 8th while Newcastle and Chelsea have been poor/awful for large parts of the season, Spurs nothing special and Villa only real contenders for 4th place is really bad and can't be justified by injuries (Newcastle and Chelsea have had them as well).

With the current squad, with the I juries we have had, any good coach is getting us into top 5 but we don't have one, so it'll be 7th or 8th.

The whole theory of being out of Europe and having a week rest is better is the biggest load of nonsense ever

Here's out lists of worsts in the Premier League era, and where I think we'll end up

Worst points total: 58 points - think we'll end on 60 after scraping by Brighton on the final day
Worst finish in the table: 7th - we'll end up 8th for a new all-time worst
Fewest goals scored: 49 - even we can't manage this kind of ineptitude this season. We'll wind up around 55 goals scored
Most goals conceded: 57 - Arsenal and Newcastle will give us a right rogering and it'll be very close. I'm gonna call 56 goals conceded total
Fewest wins: 16 - think we'll scrape by and end up on 18 wins
Most losses: 12 - we're definitely setting a new record for most losses with at least 14
Worst goal differential: 0 - we'll end up with a negative GD for the first time ever at -1 or worse
Welp, it's looking like things are going to wind up worse off than I had anticipated, in probably every category, except our final position in the table, simply because West Ham would need to win both of their matches to pass us and it's not physically possible that they beat City on the final day.

This exactly. Being out of Europe will hurt us next season.
I don’t buy this. Palace signed olise for 8m without European football. We spaff 80 on Antony

there are good ways and bad ways to run a club.

Good players in foreign leagues want to play in the EPL. We just have to be (a lot) smarter

Most likely we'll need just 1 point to seal 8th from the last 3 and I honestly don't think we can do it. What a time to be a United fan.

Can we hold onto 8th?
Depends how highly you rate Moyes and a WH on the beach. They need to win both their final games to overtake us. Brighton have J Pedro back, i..e their one reliable goalscorer; without that, I'd say 1 more point, but now i think we're toast as far as collecting any more this season

8th it is. We're not finishing below that, West Ham/Bournemouth/Brighton ain't catching us.

Things are dire but some of you really need to use math correctly.

Only WHU and Bournemouth can pass us and WHU are playing City, so that's not happening. Chelsea are playing Bournemouth as well, unlikely they win all three games to pass us.

8th it is.

We are not finishing lower than 8th.
Even if it’s mathematically possible, it’s not at all likely, looking at West Ham and Bournemouth’s remaining games and their far worst negative goal differences.
Brighton would have to win all of their 3 remaining games and Utd only gain no more than 2 points, for them to be a threat.

Newcastle and Chelsea play their next games on Saturday, a day before we play Arsenal at OT.
They can both put daylight between themselves and Utd.
8th is looking like a solid bet ATM.

Used to be a top 4 race, now a race for 8th place finish. At least it looks we're winning in it

Ive been thinking for some time that 8th is the best we'll manage and as I doubt we'll get any more than 4 points from our last 3 matches, 3pts v Brighton, 1 v Newcastle 8th is the best we'll do. As for Arsenal and City in the Cup Final, damage limitation will be the best we can hope for.

Despite United not picking up another point this season, they'll only fall to 8th.

Considering how bad the team is ATM and looking back on the terrible season we’ve had, the greatest mystery is how the feck are we as high as 8th place ?
The rest of the PL can’t be worst, surely ?
I‘ve watched a fair few matches involving mid and lower table teams and even if they’ve lost, they’ve generally looked far more competent and played much better football than Utd have given us for most of this season.

It feels like we’ve flooked 8th without deserving it.

14 more points maybe?

Wins: Sheffield, Burnley, Newcastle and Everton

Draws: Palace and Bournemouth

Losses: City, Brentford, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Brighton

Would see us on 58 points, which was 10th last year.
Looks like I might have been a bit optimistic. With Newcastle’s uptick in form, a win against them would now be a surprise. 4 points from the last 9 will be tough.
