Even if Colwill is good enough to feature we would still need to sign 1, if not 2. We have been pretty lucky with Silvia’s health, but as much a phenom as he is he is still in his late thirties. Chalobah got time last year even with Andreas and Rudiger here. And Dave might not be here to play outside of a back 3 (although he might be smart enough to to see Barca isn’t necessarily the best retirement home option anymore).
They all but assumed a deal with Kounde was done and dusted and were still looking for replacement options.
Boehly will get frustrated by playing “nice” as the new kid pretty soon. A lot of people, especially non Americans, may not understand his true reach. But f he wants to make sure an agents client never touched America’s shores, or shuts the agent out from new clients all together by pulling in larger players…. He can do all of that. He will also put spend everyone on earth, just to prove a point.
Imagine if the late Mendes refused to discuss where one of his clients was going without calling a particular owner first. That’s what Boehly has.
Now, Europe is not America. But with the exception of the Saudis, the same players are moving in and taking over. And the teams and leagues they aren’t taking over, like Barca and La Liga, are going bankrupt.
So I expect some movement. We get all these articles about how Chelsea isn’t the “dream” move for this player or that from a ridiculously biased press. But the fact is most of these teams in question CANT buy the particular player we want. I doubt any of the players that came here idealized us as THE team they wanted to play for. Who cares? It will still happen.
