Man Utd 4:2 Sheffield Utd
That was as easy a game as Eriksen could dream of, he was given a huge amount of space, but as soon as they made the slightest effort to press and made him defend a little bit it looked beyond him.

Can't see how he will still be at Utd next season, he can probably still get games at a decent level in a slower league, no point him ending his career on the bench at Utd.

Did alright on the ball, but he will be found out defensively in central midfield in his current state.

About as good as you can get from an ageing player, who has barely played to get any rhythm/confidence playing in a makeshift team and chaotic tactics.

I think he's perfectly fine as a squad player but it really depends on who is the manager next year. If it's someone, who priorities possession then keep him for his experience and ability on the ball. If it's with ETH, might as well cash in for a low transfer fee to elsewhere or free up those wages.

5 posts after the game, tells you all you need to know about how he is perceived by fans- nothing!
He is on his last leg and hopefully he is not here next season.

Physically he is goosed, can barely get about the pitch.

Time for him to move on in the summer.

Was never bought to play as much as he has for us. He's sadly way past it though at this level. Go get your Saudi pay day.

Yep, not much to say. Like watching a bloke play a testimonial.

You can really see why so few players play at a top level past 33 or so, and how unathletic #10s like Riquelme have sadly gone out of the game. He's a year or 2 early but also obviously had serious health issues that might impact things, and also just was never blessed with power and strength.

Everything is basically there except he gets dribbled by so easily that it's untenable.

My guess is he'll want to keep playing high level football and will look for a Brentford type situation in a less physically robust but still decent league instead of going to Saudi or the U.S, assuming the insurance/rules aren't a problem.

I honestly dont think he has the legs for Prem anymore. He should go to La Liga or the Buli where the qualities he still has could be useful.
We desperately need to find someone younger with his composure and eye though because we lost all of that as soon as we swapped him for Mc T. Should probably be our main priority this summer.

Man Utd 1:1 Burnley
This guy is totally done at the highest level. Struggled to do the basics right at times, caught in possession multiple times and generally wasteful with the ball. Such a lightweight.

Got Turkey for a season all over

Put a fork in him, he's done. After 30 mins he was dragging his arse around the pitch.

We play some of our best football with him in the squad. Think part of the reason we have struggled this season is because he hasn’t been played. He is just quality on the ball and with his use of the ball.
Its just a shame that he physically can’t do it for more than 60 mins, and he doesn’t have any recovery pace whatsoever which with the way we play is pretty much an essential now.

There was a pass he played midweek that I don’t understand how he managed it. Like the physics don’t make sense to me. Then there was another one yesterday in to Bruno that was just immense. We don’t have any other player that can do the things he does and we miss it.

However he is just done, but we need to find someone who can bring these things and more in to the team.

Agreed. It was clear last season that we struggled without him badly, and that injury in January was no doubt a big part of the reason we picked up Mount to try and replace him. Unfortunately this is what happens when you sign the injured to cover the injured.

I frankly think he's done at this level. Also, I don't see where we have any space for him, with Mainoo and Mount ahead of him in the role he needs to play. I wouldn't be surprised if we do a mutually agreed termination, and that would be a good move IMO.

Agree, but it’s so frustrating - his football intelligence and eye for passes are way better than Bruno’s.

He is obviously finished, ETH squeezed everything out of him last season, he should of seen it coming but didn't.

Well we signed Mount + Amrabat, so clearly he saw it coming.

Then we had injuries to Mount, so it wasn't really a stupid thing to have a backup like Eriksen available.

A bit surprised Eriksen hasn't done more to get in the team though. I'd say he's better for the team as a whole than McTominay when fit, but I'd guess he just hasn't showed enough in training over the season to get more look-ins in a weak squad overall.

We should clearly get rid of him. Doesn't cut it anymore unfortunately. Great player when he was, however.

As a few have pointed out, he was excellent for us last season up until the Carroll slaughterhouse incident. He was talked about as best buy since Denis Irwin at times, coming on a free. His weakness in defence was there, but he got around the pitch and was helped by having the gold version Casemiro next to him. I think the injury did him in and the exertion of PL did Casemiro, and as a result our midfield went from one of the best to mid table in a heart beat. Mount and Mainoo were the (sensible) replacements for Eriksen/Fred, but I guess Casemiro’s violent decline came as a surprise to everyone. It’s like if Rodri was injured for a year and replaced by a sluggish version of Kalvin Philips.

Eriksen showed why he was so important vs The Blades and Burnley, we had a much better time in possesion and created lots of opportunities. But he also showed why he is a total liability out of possesion.

It’s easy to forget, but hm and Casemiro for a combined €60m was lauded in January 2023 by most as shrewd or even genius business. There is a gamble of sorts with older players, but then you have Modric and Kroos both creating joy in the RM midfield still showing what could be possible, and United have been unlucky to see both peter out within a year of getting them, for different reasons.

We did sign Mount but from the little he played it showed he cannot play Eriksen's role from last season. Unfortunately his legs are gone, even if he's not that old.

I’d still like to see him take Bruno’s place in certain games. He has patience and see things even Bruno doesn’t. If we don’t plan on using him in a more advanced role next season, there’s no reason at all to keep him - unless our style of play change radically to accommodate a Pirlo-like dm.

Crystal Palace 4:0 Man Utd
He wasn’t at fault tonight. And he was a decent signing last season

but there comes a point when a player looks shot.

hes slow
He’s weak
He lacks satmina
And it means after 60 mins he just hoofs it aimlessly up the pitch.

another one to leave this summer

I've said it for god knows how long. He isn't the player required. He's the anti footballer in 2024. No pace, no athletic ability, no strength. He shouldn't be anywhere near the club

Hes an AM and we dont play him there when Bruno is not playing. He is not and has never been a defensive midfield player

Correct. He’s s playing out of position without the legs to make it work. Fred did the same but was quick and covered ground, so it worked at least to some extent.

He just doesn't have the physical ability to play in midfield in the PL anymore. He's done.

Was a good free signing, has become a burden now, due to how our side is set up. Best for everyone he moves on.

Yeah, he's done. Too far gone physically to be useful in the Premier League. Can probably still have a few good years in the Eredivisie or something.

And he wonders why he hasn't been playing?

I like the guy, thought he was very good and under-appreciated last season (see those assist stats) but my god, he hasn't got the legs to play in this league anymore.

I’d argue about 50% of the squad have physical deficiencies.

either too slow. Too weak. Or both

100% agree.

Too slow, too weak and not enough fight or aggression.

Eriksen is just done physically though, he shouldn't be in the position he's been put in for Utd.
