I could see this being a real struggle actually. Scoring rates have been 2.35, 2.50, 2.32. Required rate is 2.70 which is a significant jump. Not to mention overs are bound to be lost along the way.

Feels wrong to have a test tournament decided by just one test and not a series.

They should have it atleast as a 3 match series or 5 matches. Not a one and done.

This has been a shambolic batting performance. Surely if our middle order again fails in the England test series then their position should be up for grabs. We are a top side in the test side thanks to our bowlers. The batsmen have been a huge disappointment for a year or two now.
There aren't many better batsmen outside the 11. Pujara only recently was praised for his brilliance in Australia.

Who is sitting out? Rahul, who is a walking wicket in these sort of conditions.. Mayank, who has forgotten to play test cricket..

Vihari perhaps. There's certainly no one knocking the door down.

This is going to be tricky. India are getting the ball to do just enough to keep the batsmen on their toes.

Don't see a draw happening. NZ have gone into their shell and they might get knocked down one by one if they continue, if they attack they might be able to get a result.

Jadeja Bumrah Pujara have been a huge flop and probably cost us the game. Anyways NZ deserve it.

You have to find better batsmen then. Can't just continue to give chances after chances. He has been a good servant but our middle order have just had too many failures. I just don't think we should treat them as some undroppable players.

Honestly not surprised by our loss. We have been big game chokers under Kohli's captaincy in cruicial ICC tournaments. Although cannot completely fault his captaincy but he has to carry this Ole esque record of losing semis and finals.

England series should be fun and we may even win it.

Good game. Very happy for NZ, they’ve been so close in various tournaments in recent years & lost. I like the balance they’ve got in their team, especially the pace attack.

Shame we didn’t get a proper series.

Well played NZ. They deserve it at the end. Should have won 2 years back as well but glad they got it now.

New Zealand have a very solid batting line up now that Conway has emerged. They are still lacking a genuine wicket-taking spinner, but otherwise they have a very strong side.

I hope they can now get some proper test series action in Oz, England, and India.

Well done New Zealand, finally a big prize after a lot of last hurdle falls. From an Indian point of view, batting has let us down again and England is where they are least comfortable. 2007 was probably the last time an Indian batting lineup looked competent in English conditions. Pujara, Jadeja and Bumrah very disappointing.

New Zealand prepared with two test matches and India had a few squad games, you need more than that in such conditions. I think Australia has the most stable conditions for a huge one off match, which It should be a series to start with.

This is an unpopular opinion but Jadeja is something of a luxury player in most matches. He’s like a fullback in a very good side which completes it but if the team isn’t good, it’s not an important position.

His bowling is terrific at home but not competitive enough to be a sole spinner in any conditions. His batting is useful in patches but not a specialist batsman despite coming on leaps and bounds.

I wouldn’t hold his performance against him, I think this is what you select him for because the players around him are good. And he delivers in some department in different ways. But he’s not going to help you out in a test like this where everyone else fails mostly.

The NZ player interviews on tv are great. It’s nice to see them finally win a major tournament. It’s added context to tests and I hope the ICC continues with this.

I think they need to implement the pink ball so bad light becomes a smaller factor. Them going off for bad light when the floodlights are on shouldn’t happen in this era, particularly when so many of them are used to playing at night with the white ball.

Agreed. Key player in home conditions but not the same player abroad. India need to get Pandya fully fit, a bowling Pandya is a perfect no.7 in overseas conditions.

Oh we lost again in an ICC event under the brilliance of Kohli and Shastri. Kicking Shastri out and getting a real coach in would be a good step towards winning one. Shows you how much brilliant MSD was. NZ looked far superior team in 2nd innings.

MSD won feck all in tests and lead us to 4-0 in England, 4-0 in Australia, 3-1 in England. He was a dreadful, defensive captain in tests and cannot hold a candle to Kohli.

Australia's current T20 team is terrible. I know they are missing a few players but this team just has no heart. Never thought I'd write that about an Aussie cricket team.
