Or there isn’t one in the first place. Mendes knew United will not name a price so there will never be a need to name that unnamed club and hence made that statement to save some faces
I don't think there is one. Mendes wants to get him to go for free so its easier to pitch to previous potential clubs who had expected to pay a transfer fee.
Why should United give him away for free? Paid £14m to Juve a year ago.

It will be pretty embarrassing for Mendes now if he can't get him a club. The CR7 brand will have been damaged.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
On the basis that this club is run terribly, I think we will sell him on deadline day, and not have time to buy a replacement, narrowly missing the chance to register Shefki Kuqi.

You think so? You think the people at United are that dumb?

There isn't one, for the reason you mentioned. It's pathetic how transparent and obvious they are with what they're trying to do

Jesus, Im more F-ed than I thought. No wonder I dont see any likes around.
In order to remove this newbie status I will have to stalk staff members, see which players they like and stick my tongue right up there.
Your best bet to get promoted quickly is to request a name change and a tagline at the same time.

No way we should sell him if he can stay in the air for 3 minutes. Why hasn't he been flying around the pitch for us, takes pressing to a new level

Ouch
There's no sentimentality with Real Madrid, which is probably why the club has 14 European Cups. Its a machine built for one thing: Winning. Anything that does not help Madrid win is instantly disregarded. You can be a legend one season, used trash the next. Once you are no longer useful you are out. Madrid is always looking to the future, Ronaldo is its past. Perez has no use for a 38 year old. That is why Madrid will again compete for the highest honours this season, whereas we will be lucky to win any kind of cup and finish in the top four.

One thing I’ve learnt after years of watching football is how quickly things shift and how fans just wipe their recent memories. There is nothing more fickle than the average football fan.

I can see a possibility where he is forced to stay despite blatantly wanting out, but then things pick up for United and he is finding the net. All those slagging him off on here would soon change their tune.

Lovely little bit of fan fiction you've conjured up for yourself there. The people that want him out know he can score goals - isn't that obvious? We all saw last season. The issue is whether or not Ronaldo is conducive to a ten Hag team and if keeping him here when he wants to play every minute of every game is worth the trouble it'll cause if/when he doesn't. It's not about 'slagging him off', what on odd way of seeing things.

Fortunately for Ronaldo, this year's Ten Hag team looks just like last year's non-Ten Hag team -- so Ronaldo should fit right in.

One thing is for sure he'll be fired up this season looking to prove the doubters wrong. None of the top clubs want him and RM president saying he's old. This is the type of stuff that gets him going.

The script is known to all and people will still get upset. He did the same thing with Juventus. He's going to wait until the last few days of the window and leave.

Yeah, for that he'd need someone stupid enough to buy him, and such takers are in short supply.

To say nothing of the fact that Juventus were very happy to let him go, whereas United are apparently not.

So he is to stay , but alternatively he could leave.. Glad that is cleared up.

I think he will stay , there is no other option for him.

He and his representatives have played this really poorly.

Hahah jeez that's grim. First match certainly felt like it, with him seeming like the only hope at getting any points...again.

Once upon a time it was our way of doing things. Did Bryan Robson get a send off, did Steve Bruce? Fergie happily waved goodbye to Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis, Yorke, Cole, Keane and Van Nistlerooy. Legends of the club. Once their time was done Sir Alex shoved them out of the door.

We've become what Liverpool used to be: Giving goodbye laps to players like Cavani who haven't done anything for the club. All the while City and Liverpool let the likes of Aguero and Mane go without a second thought.

What does soulless even mean in this context? Give some substance to the word. Real Madrid have an incredibly rich and successful history, are well respected and one of the most sought after clubs for top players, with many of the games legends being known for playing there. I can't really understand how simply saying soulless diminishes any of that in a meaningful way

Totally agree. There's a difference between being cuts and being professional.

100% United are far too sentimental.

We are run like a big family rather than a cut throat sporting team.

Could you imagine Madrid keeping the likes of Jones and Lingard around on the books for as long as we did? not a chance.

Winning is the essence of their club culture and their approach has made them the most successful club ever.

Think we could very well take a page out of their book rather than devolving into 1990's and 2000's Liverpool style Nostalgia FC...

I wouldn't choose Cavani as the example, United went into 2020/21 with everyone laughing at the club and then he scored 17 in 39 and was one of United's best players in the second half of that season. Then they took the 7 jersey off him, didn't play him and then he lost interest. Saw out his contract. There wasn't any nostalgia to that, he wasn't there long enough, he was brought in to do a short-term job the previous season, he did it.

Jones, Rojo and others that should have been released but were given contracts in the hope they'd get transfer fees would be more than point.

Jorge Mendes is 1 for 1 with his strategy. If it doesn't work this time you'd have a point. When crunch time arrives teams make panic buys & sales for the sake of their sporting project. Ronaldo is a shiny toy.

Juventus wanted to get rid of Ronaldo's wages because it suffocated them financially & they couldn't make any big new signings. Manchester City lost out on Harry Kane. Yes, Manchester City wanted him for free, on a wage cut and it probably would've happened if Manchester United didn't step in.

Manchester United wants to give Ten Hag a clean slate for a rebuild and Ronaldo stands in the way because of his status both in and outside the dressing room. Next few weeks will reach a boiling point in my opinion and a club like Chelsea could step in if their Aubameyang chase doesn't materialize.

Anything can happen.

Totally agree. Fans did and still do have their allegiances to certain players but with a few exceptions, players should be treated as assets and as such acquired and disposed of depending on their perceived value to the club, manager and squad.

Constantly at the STD clinic.
On one hand it's soulless yeah but on the other that ruthlessness is what ensures they stay relevant... We are suffering from what Liverpool did for all those years, trying to cling onto history.
A balance is fine. Sign the best talent and best managers but don't look down on anything that isn't just about winning.

Grounding opinion on a sample of one is the epitome of small sample bias. The important thing is that circumstances are significantly different, and transfers don't depend solely on the whims on any one person. In the previous example all three parties with interest conspired to make a transfer happen. Now it's just the one party desperate to leave, with no takers and no willing sellers.

That United deem Ronaldo as "standing in the way" is baseless conjecture. If anything, what little indicators we have show exactly the opposite. The manager has spoken about the player in the most glowing terms (that exceed mere platitudes), and in addition to that, United made no moves to find a replacement (until a couple of days ago). Surely, if it was planned to ship him out, we would have pursued a striker from the get go.

I fear he stays, it just looks like the most likely scenario.

That's Mendes's mouthpiece, looks like there isn't a ucl club that's interested in him. Looks like he's actually staying.

I completely agree with some fans who think that the club should be ruthless in general.

But it gets a bit amusing though when some of those fans start complaining about how the players don't care about the club and want to leave because the club is in a dire situation etc.
