I think that it makes perfect sense for Van Gaal to sign players from the Dutch national team. He needs player that know his system. Players that he knows can be effective in his system. Daley Blind is the Dutch player of the year. He will be available relatively cheap and he plays in the position that we desperately need numbers in.

I am fairly sure that Van Gaal will bring in at least two Dutch players. All things considered, it just makes the most sense.

He's one of the only few Dutch players that make sense. He's a very intelligent player and although he will never reach the level of someone like Vidal, he will be very useful and can flourish in the right system.

Solid player, nothing special. He can play left back or midfield. Watched him during the Euro 21 championship and a few games in the Dutch league. He will improve our current midfield for sure. I think he, along with Bruno Martins Indi will be targeted by Van Gaal.

I would be utterly amazed if we ever sign this lad. Whenever I've seen him (which has admittedly not been often), he's made Cleverly look like Steven Gerrard for Liverpool v Olympiakos in 2004/05

Agreed. Even as a squad player he looks a bit iffy to me.

Dude's a really good utility player accustomed to playing at a few different positions. High praise but I'd liken him to a slightly inferior version of Kevin Großkreutz, a player who's underrated by opposition fans a bit like Blind, but is very tactically intelligent, gives 100 % and gets the job done. Only problem is - like Großkreutz you're never quite sure what his best position is. Blind is not excellent at any particular aspect of the game despite boasting high-average traits at almost everything. So I'd be worried if Van Gaal intends to use him as a first choice LB/ CM/ LM when there are better specialised options available at almost all of those positions. However as a squad player he would be excellent. Just plug and play, not eye-catching but a very consistent, stable player like Park was for us or Kuyt for Liverpool. Every squad needs one of those TBF.

Is he a midfielder or a centre back?
He's mostly played the holding midfield role for Ajax like Busquets does for Barcelona in their midfield 3 this season. He's obviously inferior, but has the same traits, keeping possession, a lot of running, intercepting passes and keeping it simple. I'm not sure we need him since he's similar to Carrick in what he does and these days Fletcher looks a lesser version of Carrick on the football pitch, so 3 players of the same trait would probably be a bit much. We need midfielders who pressure the opposition more than those 3, like Ander Herrera, Vidal, Koke and so on. Whether we can get someone like that is another question. If we needed a replacement for Carrick right now, he'd be a good choice. He's better than Cleverley and Fletcher IMO, certainly better than those above give him credit for.

This should be a decent plan B... so far not a highest priority but Blind is quite solid, despite being a bit unproven in strongest leagues.

If players like Carvalho or Koke are really unavailable we could try him... after all Van Gaal most of his time is focusing on calibrating footballers to his most efficient use in the system.

Price also shouldn't be a problem.

Well, he's nothing like Cleverley so that's a bit of a strange comparison to begin with. I think I've yet to see him play poorly and his consistency saw him pick up Ajax's PotY award last season, so you must have been unfortunate to catch him exclusively on rare off days. I've seen him give unspectacular performances, mind you, but he's always been solid and effective.

For a team playing possession based football, he is perfect as a deep lying playmaker. Reads the game well, keeps it simple and distributes well. He would be a good signing.

Cheers. If LvG wants a player like Blind he should move for Carvalho.

You wouldn't blame him for going with what he knows though as he has worked with the player and can see how he would fit in with the system he wants to play. Would also be a far cheaper option to allow him to pursue other targets to give us more depth.

@bucky summed him up perfectly. Fletcher is average and Carrick is 33 now. Blind would be a great signing, we also need a midfielder who forces the issue in there too.

Would be really surprised if we were interested in him.

Played mostly as a fullback the last years, this season he got a chance in midfield and did very well there at Ajax. For the Dutch national team: Van Gaal himself said that he is the best left back currently available for Holland, but he is not 'ideal'. Says enough, really. Might get a chance at midfield too, because of the new system.

Blind is an excellent passer, especially as a fullback. Also very comfortable on the ball in midfield, good functional technique/first touch, good vision. Gained some muscle and looks better strength wise every year, alright tackler, but he lacks the speed all the fullbacks at top clubs have.

Only played in midfield roughly 50% of the time this season for Ajax, but it looks like his natural position. Most players really want to leave the Dutch league as soon as they play well for a season, but he stated he is very happy at Ajax and wants to develop there.

If Moisander/Poulsen leave, he will be made captain probably, and for him it's important he feels comfortable at a club and plays in a secure environment. But he might not be able to resist United if we were to come.

All in all I would say a team like Newcastle, Everton or perhaps Schalke 04 would have a very useful squad player in Daley Blind in one or two years, and at the moment United is a bit too big of a step for him. Good footballer non the less, and some aspects, like his (short) passing and vision are up to top 5 premier league standards.

Might be a useful squad player due to his versatility. Definitely a better LB cover than Buttner. Although if we will have both Evra and Shaw that would not be an issue for a year at least.

This kid doesn't look United quality at all, granted I've seen very little of him but even his youtube comps(which can make any player look a world beater) don't inspire me at all. Could be a decent squad player as he can play LB and CM but that's the last thing we need right now, more mediocre squad players.

The comments in here just demonstrate the lack of an eye for a good player.

Seriously though, I think he's going to develope into a top class player. Would like us to sign him.
