I thought we’d get roundabout £15M-£20M for him. But if it is £30M then that’s an incredible deal.

30m. Quite a price tag for a player considered by many on this forum as a "championship player". There's been a good few very good players moved in this window for less than that.
I think Leeds have made a massive mistake. He is indeed championship material. Great business for united!

Great business and a great move for James. He'll enjoy life at Leeds and I'm sure he'll continue to be a premier league player. Best of luck to him, the right time to part ways.

£30m is an incredible fee by our standards. Ed must be trying to get us to beg him to stay.

James came with modest expectations and didn’t fulfil them. Good luck to him all the same.
I would say that he did fulfil modest expectations and has proven to be a tidy bit of business. The squad has improved greatly this season and he clearly was out of his depth but during the 19/20 season we needed him a lot and he chipped in with a couple of valuable goals and assists and I can't recall him ever making a critical mistake or costing us a game. Last season he had that purple patch in the Spring when we were again down to bare bones and that again was valuable but now the clock has run out. If we sell him for the fee quoted he has been a qualified success for us and hopefully we have a sell on clause in there too.

I wish him the best of luck, always thought he had more to give and I think we'll see that at Leeds.

More space in behind for his pace to exploit and in a team where his very high work rate can be matched all over the pitch.

£30 mil though is a great deal for us, and I genuinely hope he has a great career for Leeds (as long as he plays shite against us).

Loved his debut goal celebrations

Honestly think he has a place in our squad ahead of Martial, Lingard and Mata.

If you need a game changer there’ll always be 2 of Sancho,Greenwood, Rashford and Cavani on the bench (Elanga and Amad too). If you need to hold on to a win, someone to work hard and give us pace on the break DJ’s perfect for that.

Cant see what the other 3 offer ahead of him.

It's insane that a player who has actually been solid for us gets sold and the likes of Lingard are still around. I suppose it's due to Dan James having a market while Lingard doesn't have one, but nonetheless, I would've rather sold Lingard for less and kept James for squad depth.
Think both players are leaving, but if I had to choose between them today, I definitely would’ve sold James before Lingard. James’ last matches shows he’s pretty far from being United quality. In the end it was a little bit embarrassing to watch him and I felt sorry for him. He is a speedy hard working player and seems like a loyal person, but that’s not enough to play for United.

Best for both parts if he joins Leeds. He has many years ahead of him in PL. To say he is a championship player is an exaggeration :)

Guy at work told me about the deal but I honestly thought it was bullshit when he told me the price.
I wish him well, always tried his hardest which is not something I can be entirely confident some of his ex-team mates did.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he does turn out a decent premier league winger, he needs play time that he can’t realistically get here consistently though.

Is he getting in the Leeds team in front of Harrison though? Surely Raphina is one of the first names on the team sheet, unless they anticipate losing him shortly.

Playing vs 2 blocks of 4 for us vs playing for Leeds where they are attacked much more and in turn have plenty of open space to work with are 2 very different propositions. Lingard for example showed how someone whk looks clueless for us can do very well at a mid table club. No guarantees in football but given his playing style, Leeds will suit him a lot more than us.
ZZZZZ all the tactical analysis, the guy cant pass, has awful decision making, poor technique. Nearly any club he goes to he is going to get more space to run into as teams are less likely to put players behind the ball, but if there is no end product, he is still going to be a poor player. Never was a fan of Lingard, but he has always had very good movement and awareness even when he was here and his technique is decent, he just was quite good enough here to fulfill the earlypromise, different propositions totally for me, James was never anywhere near good enough to be a Man Utd player

Well that's simply only true with hindsight. And a lot of his best performances have been for Wales - he was REALLY good at the Euro's. Unusual for us to turn a profit on any player.
Was he? He was no more than decent

Fantastic business. Good luck to the lad. Makes him starting on Sunday even more baffling now.

If he was like 19 or 20, i'd risk sticking with him with the hope he improves, but at 23 he's probably never going to turn into a top player.
Its actually embassassing watching him when he gets the ball, puts his head down, and runs into defenders. Not Utd quality.
But Rashford does exactly the same 90% of the time.

Unbelievable deal for us. James can still improve and could potentially prove alright for them, but in our current situation getting 30m for him is great business.

He has a kid on the way. Probably just wants to make sure he has something on of a Saturday so he doesn't have to spend seven hours in a playground.

Called it as soon as there was news of him being available. Leeds have chased after him for years now and it must feel good to feel wanted/valued.

There's no shame in not being good enough for United. Best wishes to him and his career, as long as he remains useless against us.

Maybe he’ll remind us he’s fast again.

All the best to him atleast he can improve as a player now.

Nonsense.

Bielsa will turn him into a decent player and he'll be a well-feared Premier League winger in 2 seasons.
I like Bielsa but he’s not going to work any miracles on Dan James.

On the other hand, DJ is underrated by most (or so it seems) on here, is no way a lower league quality and would be a regular in at least a few prem teams.

In terms of his future, he is already a decent player, blessed with pace and has an excellent attitude; with experience he will surely improve.

Can’t remember the journalist, but after we signed him I remember it being reported that our scouts rated him as having the potential to be World Class.

Most I ever hoped was that he might become a useful option. He’ll be one to watch at Leeds and I hope we install a buy back clause just in case

I wouldn't be surprised if he fairs well there. I don't think he's going to rack up incredible numbers but he'll be better. They play a high energy style and like to counterattack, plus teams give them nowhere near as much respect which will help him. He was fairly redundant against teams that sat off us but teams will try to exploit Leeds style.

Also I don't think his technique was anywhere near as rubbish as some say. I thought this wasn't the problem in comparison to his lack of confidence and lack of a final touch. Sometimes this would manifest as a bad final touch or running down a cul de sac but I thought his dribbling technique was fine - I don't think Bielsa would buy him if he thought he had little ability. This wasn't the club for him and you could see it in his demeanor, at Leeds I think the reduced expectation will take a weight off him.

I can only applaud this deal, no wind up. Well done Man Utd. As a Liverpool fan I can only hope Leeds do the right thing and put him straight into the starting XI in their next game.

At the time he signed in the summer of 2019 our attacking options were Rashford, Martial, Lingard ( who would have an appalling season), Mata (way past his best even then) and Pogba (Out injured pretty much all season until lockdown).

Absolutely woeful options to go into a season with, and so the punt on James was understandable and I thought especially early on he looked ok and justified how much he was playing.

2 years later and the squad is so much stronger he's no longer needed. Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani, Bruno, Pogba, Ronaldo, Martial is just incredible firepower and if all those are fit and in form James is behind all of them. So selling him now makes sense.

Amazing deal - good luck to the lad. He was never United quality but he tried his heart out and seemed like a nice boy.

I like him actually. Yes he is not a very technical player but always works hard and its not like we paid 40m for him. Best of luck wherever he goes. He is one player who will never talk bad about United and we should do the same to him. He has obviously tried his best and we got him for a fair price, now selling for higher.
