Just named in the Serie A team of the year. Monaco are interested in him according to Fabrizio Romano. 34 years old. Surely if he's available we sign him? All the clowns who fecked him about on his contract 2 years ago are gone now. Who out there is better than him, who is available? Definitely nobody in our squad.

It was right to get rid of him but his replacement was worse. that's the problem , we wouldn't be worse off this season or last with him, tbh probably slightly better

Nooo can we just move on!? He was terrible the last few years at United let him be happy that he found some form.

I've seen matches where we've won 1-0 where we should have lost 4 or 5 with him in the net. At his best, he won you 20 points a season.

FFS, let it go he’s never coming back. It was absolutely the right decision to get rid of him at the time. The problem wasn’t letting De Gea go, it was replacing him with the absolute calamity that is Andre Onana. Had we signed an even half way competent keeper we’d never hear Dave’s name brought up again.

Yeah. Shite.

It never seems right to me that the goalkeeper gets the award for most clean sheets. Surely it should be shared with the defenders too?

Golden glove should be who's made the most saves.

And in his last seasons he conceded goals that he could have saved by not moving at all.

Got to love the sentiment of moving back for a player who was terrible for us in his last 3 years at the club after we've just had our worst season ever. What could possibly go wrong?!

Yeah true, his last few seasons were abysmal though thats the problem; he was costing us so many games ... but so does Onana , like i said, it was right to replace him but the Donkeys on the board replaced the Donkey in goal with an even bigger Donkey

We really have to stop pining for old players to come back. He was let go correctly but replaced horribly.

The United fan base is hilarious. We spend all season demanding players are sold and then the second they go somewhere else and look half decent we start demanding they come back

He was absolutely terrible in the last couple of years here. We were completely right to move him on, the only thing was how it was handled, which was pathetic.

We just have to acquire a GK who can do all the GK things, unlike both Onana and de Gea.

That Serie A team of the year also features the formidable strikeforce of Lukaku and Che Adams. Get the chequebook out, Sir Jim.

He was terrible at World Cup 2018 and was never the same since.

Conceding incredibly soft goals became a regular occurence, he just balanced it out with the odd worldie save to make people forget. Remember the final straw was him watching two completely saveable goals go past him in the FA cup final. If his shot stopping is his only strength, and his shot stopping is costing you cup finals, it's time to move on.

Only United are stupid enough to sign a worse keeper as his replacement.

On here a GK that needed replacing and was replaced with tripe is suddenly the answer. He’d come back and be an absolute disaster just like our current GK

Delighted for him, a proper servant of the club, but my god the revisionism, he made so many absolutely calamitous mistakes those final 3 seasons, mistakes that make Onana look like bloody Schmeichel in comparison.

Could've just extended him and saved the Onana money for something else.

Nar, he was calamitous at the end. Awful with his feet, awful on crosses and making so many comical mistakes.

We just should’ve bought a much cheaper and safer keeper than Onana has turned out. That Summer we spent 190m on Mount, Onana and Højlund to not improve us even a smidge.

Thats fair. Onana, however, was a calamitous buy. Whoever was doing our transfers that summer (Hojlund, Onana, Mount et al) was clearly clueless.

If he stays at Fiorentina, I hope the friendly game before the new season will be treated as a sort of testimonal game for de Gea.

A million miles better than Onana, but returning would be met with even bigger scrutiny that ever.

Love De Gea and will always remember his time here fondly. That said, we definitely should not bring him back. He’s not what he once was and while we need a keeper he’s not the answer even on a free.

Side rant if we are looking for a new goalkeeper this modern goalkeeper shit needs to die a death. Thats how we got saddled with Onana and faced endless lectures from nerds how he was going to transform our attack. Whoever we sign should be able to command his area and be a good shot stopper.

Caf in 2023: We really need to get rid of De Gea
Caf in 2025: We really need to sign De Gea

Onana was clearly a EtH pick that got the thumbs up.
The other two… how on Earth looking back did we spend so much money on those?

Everything for EtH could’ve been so different with a competent keeper, a CM and Harry Kane.

Jesus Christ no

People need to get over it. It was the right decision to move him on. Just because Onana turned out awful doesn't negate that. The mistake was signing Onana not moving De Gea on.
