These are mostly not the players who who qualified for the tournament. As soon as the country qualify for a tournament like this (Alhilal Saudi Club get the lions share of starters unlike the qualifiers. They are basically the capital team and the team of the so called elite) in 1994 there we no players from that club as first teamers and we went on to have the best WC tournament we were ever in. Most fans of other clubs were joyful today because this team does not represent the best in the country just the team of the elite whom they despise.

Other managers are at home thinking about the next season and who they'll buy and he's there taking a rest and enjoying himself.
Other managers go on holiday, sit by the pool, read a book and make the odd phone call related to transfers. They don't all work full-time hours 52 weeks a year.

Just because Jose is using his holiday to discuss the World Cup, it doesn't mean he isn't in touch with the club or doing what he would otherwise be doing on a break.

How much football does he watch? He knows so much more about football than any other person I've seen analyze a match on TV.
In 2004 he was a huge success analyzing Portugal vs Spain after he won the Champions League with Porto, but that was during the 90 minutes, don't know if he is only doing pre match or post match analysis for RT tbh.

When did Clive become so cringeworthy?
Clive Tyldesley: "Russia NT coach's moustache has been a talking point here. A popular TV host here, who looks like like Borat, has called on Russians to grow taches in support of the coach & the team. Josef Stalin had a proper tache."

Streamable video

camera shows Putin and the crown prince of Saudi Arabia shaking hands after the goal

Clive Tyldesley: "They’re doing an oil deal, it’s nothing about football"

I understand the nepotism aspect, buy why would someone do that? Getting spanked on the international stage by sending a weaker team surely must make them send a good team..

Good first game, Russia looked good, yeah SA didn't offer much threat but the speed of Russian attack was very good.

Their backline must be among the oldest in the world cup. 32 year old keeper, 34 year old LB and 38 year old CB.

Will Golovin's price tag increase after this? He played well.

Poor opposition and proves nothing, but the joys of football mean an extra 10mil or so on his price tag now surely :)
