Can they withstand the last 5 minutes without conceding another goal ? We don't need Russia to start with that high GD.

Saudi have plenty of athletic and skillful players, but they seem to have little idea of how to make those talents mesh in a team environment, so many guys taking an extra touch when it should be moved quickly, trying to dribble in really bad areas, it is all a bit streetballish.
They looked decent in qualifying. They were in Australia-Japan group and got through comfortably ahead of those two.

Their problem has always been instability in sacking coaches every few months (bit like some of the African teams).

Bert Van Marwijk got some good play out of them but they don't keep him on for finals and then go through Bauza to get to Pizzi.

When did Clive become so cringeworthy?
I think once the rose-tinted specs come off about his commentary for the 99 final you start to realise he's always been this bad.

He's horribly sycophantic for England games and he's full of buzzwords and bad phrases that make you wish he'd shut up.

What's amusing me is Qatar are even worse than Saudi are.

You can see there is enough talent there that in the right environment they could be a tricky team, crowd behind them, confidence flowing. It is boring, but at a higher level there needs to be a fundamental structure to how you play, can't expect to just overpower teams with talent alone.

Great goal.

Saudi Arabia are woeful though. Seem to have no urgency or creativity.

Really feck KSA. They destroyed the GD with this match alone. Gonna beat Russia now.

Mad to think Cheryshev didn't even start this game.

Think people are underestimating Russia a little, with him and Golovin on the pitch they've got some decent creativiy in midfield.

People seem to think Salah on his own is going to built Russia, I very much doubt it.

Tasty tasty finish. Nice way to finish the opening game.

I thought they were using VAR? That was clearly offside.
It’s a shambles. They’re telling refs not to call offsides and then not interfering when it ends up being offside because it’s not an obvious error.

It’s exactly like I’ve been saying in the VAR thread, we'll end up with a bunch of illegitimate goals standing. But people won’t hear it.

Edit: that being said, I’ve only seen the one replay on a tiny tv, so I’m taking your word for it being offside.
