Too defensive for my liking against a team you'd expect to easily beat.

Playing with 2 defensive midfielders. A specialist right-back playing at left-back despite having Shaw in his prime. Playing Sterling who's been non-existent for his club over the last few months.

Not decisions most people would have made but not the end of the world.

I'm guessing the idea with Sterling is to retain some pace in the team rather than having everybody coming towards the ball. Mount and Foden already bring that dynamic. The other obvious option for that role was Rashford but he's been in bad form too.

Trippier is a strange decision, some kind of overthinking going on there I reckon.

On the positive side, if supporting United has taught me one thing, the louder the uproar about the lineup, the better the result. 8-0 England, it is.

Not sure why you'd expect to easily beat Croatia, they beat England in the world cup semi finals after all... They'll still dominate the midfield IMO.

Got Austria in the work sweepstake so I’ll be watching all three games today.

Two DMs, Trippier at LB, Sterling instead of Grealish, no Sancho on the bench..

Southgate really doing his level best to make what should've been a comfortable game against a past it Croatia team into a hard one.

Of course he is, there's two keepers on the bench. Not even Southgate could be that stupid.
You’d hope so — but when he’s got a RB playing LB ahead of a player who just won the CL and the other having his best season ever… hard to give him benefit of the doubt!

Where have you seen that?
I'm sure you will find it in the UEFA regulations on their website. Same 12 sub rule as previous Euros.

All 10 sides have had 2 GKs on their bench of 12 players so far.

Exactly. It’s beyond cowardly. He’s a championship manager at best and it’s a total waste of this super talented generation.

You would expect England to beat Croatia easily? Are you serious?

Can see why he’s picked the team he has if he’s thinking of the easier route to the final.

Southgate was never ( and never will ) going to play a offensive line up, Its just not in his DNA.

England need a manager that is not afraid to lose a game of football whilst trying to play the right way.

England have not had a manager like that in years.

England do the exact same mistakes in literally every big tournament and expect different results.

If you do tomorrow what you did today, you will get tomorrow what you got today

We might go and win you know. I do think it is odd that Trippier is at LB, but the game hasn't even kicked off yet. If it goes wrong then get angry.

What a downgrade.

Edit: Still, good experience and puts him in the shop window.

Trippier's "experience" meanwhile he's started at LB 4 times ever.

Sounds like neither Sancho not Chilwell are injured. They were dropped because they could only name 22 players and apparently 3 of them needed to be goalkeepers.

Southgate is a defensive coach and that's fine I guess, but why not start Sancho and Rashford who are the most effective counterattacking players in the squad? One of them isn't even on the bench.

It doesn't add up.
