 :smirk: I meant nobody expected Croatia or England to get to the semi in 2018. Considering the quality of England entering this tournament you woudn't have expected them to get to the semi or final this year either but nobody looks that good. Even teams that have played well (like France/England) have looked pretty shaky at the back!
To be fair the french backline was a first. They did better than expected.

Germany and Argentina losing their first game. Basically its knockout football for both teams. No margin for error for both.

Chuffed for Minamino.

Let's see whether Spain and Belgium can avoid a tragedy later today.

Germany getting potentially papped out of the World Cup in the group stages for the 2nd tournament running. That World Cup win in 2014 looks like it could be a curse.

Free sake for the Japanese goalkeeper tonight. Great redemption after that clumsy penalty.

Yes. Gg Japan. Good win.

Very entertaining match. Expecting a bore fest with one million passes and zero shooting in the Spain game now

Asian teams are back with a vengeance! I take back everything I said after the Qatar and Iran games. What a couple of days! On the football side of things it's shaping up nicely has to be said.

Japan played very well - lots of so called lesser nations being very competitive which is great to see.

I'm inclined to put this loss on Flick. Especially the starting 11 and the subs. Proper meltdown for me.

No hunger in Germany from the parts of the game I saw. Strolling around and look like they want to be on the first plane home already...

This tournament got really interesting, really fast, for very unexpected reasons. Being just the first round of group games, teams may have to take chances they didn't expect to have to take.
