Day 4: Morocco vs Croatia | Germany vs Japan | Spain vs Costa Rica | Belgium vs Canada

Poor David Raum looks like Phil Jones's slightly better looking little brother.

Still don't get how Harvetz is playing if Muller plays at the same time. Even Gundogan and Kimmich have overlapping roles. There's also Musiala with Muller role just on the other side, and no left winger make it hard for Germany to stretch their opponents. Weird by Flick.

Most of the time the penalties are just rolled into the goal now after the keeper has already dived.

Yes if a penalty is hit hard and in the corner then you aren't saving it anyway. Look at Gundogans penalty, look at Messis penalty. No power, in the middle of the goal and a nice height. Simple to save if you just stay still.

The Mexican keeper saved Lewandowski's by doing exactly that.

Sit still, make them actually work for it. If they hit the side netting then fair enough.
Ochoa dived and committed to that side before the ball was kicked too.

Japan are another side whose decision making has been shocking. Every time they’re away the player takes too long and plays a crap ball.
They are getting physically outmuscled by german press.

Peter Shilton went his whole career using the technique you're suggesting.

He saved 3 penalties out of 50-odd.

Kimmich trying to pass to choupo moting.

Feel like the crowd noise been turned down on whatever channel some of you'll are watching. Or turned up for me. There's been lulls here and there, but the atmosphere has sounded pretty good on my stream.

It should be done how Lloris(?) saved Jorginho's penalty technique this season or last one. Feign one way, make them commit their shot to the other side and shift to the other side yourself.

Have Japan managed to string 2 passes together? Seriously poor this from them when there's a lot of good technical Japanese players around

That's just sad to watch.

Maybe Japan can pull a Saudi Arabia next half?

They looked probably the more dangerous side in the first 15-20 mins with a few rapid counters and had the ball in the net from one that was offside.

Germany have just strangled them ever since, though.

Germany look a bit dodgy defensively, so far - Think teams can get at them there.

Could see that was offside from live play.

What on earth were the defenders doing just stopping. Got away with that one.

They have 19% possession and a pass success rate of just 58% - so statistically the answer to your question is "very rarely".

lineup is subpar in that regard imo. Kimmich-Gündogan with Havertz, Musiala and Müller on the field doesn't make much sense.
