Weirdly underrated on here, he’s brilliant physically and technically. Has a brain fart in him but the type of player that will iron those out and just get better and better with experience.
AWB’s profile is so specialist he’s always going to limit us, this guys an all rounder.
Surely a technically brilliant full back would be able to put in a decent cross every now and then? He either overhits or underhits almost every single cross.

Think that's what makes him frustrating, he's got the physical attributes and is technically sound but his decision making both attacking and defending let him down time and time again. In reality he's a good backup player but needs to be upgraded.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
There were 5 seconds in that second half which summed him up. Onana gave him the ball centrally with a Liverpool player on him - he took the ball on the half turn brilliantly - physically powered forward under huge pressure slicing through the entire Liverpool press with acres in front of him with us on a dangerous attacking transition. To his left he had Garnacho in acres with himself, Mctominay and Hojlund them able to drive forward for a cross should he give him the ball - instead he passes the ball right to absolutely fecking nobody and Liverpool end up transitioning on us instead. He’s a reliable brain away from being a very good footballer.

100%. Whenever someone states how good he is, this is the lens they need to be using.

Neville and Irwin would walk into this team and out perform both of our FB for every stat on the stat wheel
Irwin yes.
Neville was carried by the team. He was a solid RB, but nothing spectacular.
People often forget how comical was our defense at many times from 2001 till 2005.

Neville was a much better full back than what he got credit for.

He was! And today he would be an excellent player in a 3 man defense. I just dont think he was miles ahead of Shaw and Dalot. Irwin was miles ahead. He was considered one of the best full backs in the league.

I was just about to type this, exactly my thoughts. Can look like an absolute beast, and within seconds look like an absolute clown. That was the exact moment today which summed him up perfectly. His decision making is awful, his close control is impressive, his distribution is average at best

I like him if I'm honest. I think he needs to be a bit more consistent, he can have a stinker every now and then but then thats this team to a tee.

Thought he was good today though. Especially 1 on 1 when he came out on top in his fair share.

Completely agree.

He demonstrated a very high level of technical quality in the game by resisting the Liverpool high pressure from midfield. We had a extra midfielder centrally today due to having Mainoo, Amrabat and Dalot as midfield options, and that made a difference imo. Dalot imo is among our best players at resisting pressure from midfield.

The system wasn't different today, but rather what was different, was that the personnel we had playing today gave us a identify from back to front due to doing the bare minimum out of possession and also having the attributes in possession to make a difference, which caused Liverpool problems due to the extra composure on offer compared to last season's drubbing. Mainoo occupied Bruno's role, but played the role differently due to being a more natural midfield player. Mainoo starts low and goes high, and Bruno starts high and comes low into midfield. Mainoo starting low and going high meant Dalot inverted into midfield, and that gave us a solid central base in a low/mid-block setup, which Liverpool found very difficult to breach.

We could've still lost the game and on another day could've even nicked a result due to the chances that fell our way. But to build/develop a team requires all the players to do the bare minimum for the team. And if you have that commitment, then you will build strong foundations to add to.
The consistent game time has really helped him these last few years and it culminated with that really good period of form pre-World Cup last season. I think what most impresses me is that a lot of the good stuff he shows is in spite of our poor tactical synergy and all around general play. He creates his own space on the right wing with his powerful running and stepovers, he dares to do switch the ball from one wing to another, he dares to receive the ball in tight areas and under pressure etc. He puts his body on the line with numerous high intensity sprints to recover balls, get goal side and make defensively actions with interceptions and aerials.

However, he has also quite regularly at times this season cost us with some really dumb moments, which leads me back to your general point. The fact that we have such a dynamic player, who is arguably one of our most press resistant, athletic and creative (with his ball playing from the back and ball carrying) players still perform inconsistently is so frustrating. Having a player like McTominay in the team and playing a single midfielder to screen the back four cripples every other player in the team as it asks them all to perform their jobs like a single entity. Mainoo, Dalot, Shaw, Antony and even Hojlund are players that like to link up and can create space and movement with/without the ball; except every time we play a Bruno/McTominay duo we have no midfield control and every player has to fend/create/defend for themself.

Yeah it was a good, solid performance. The most annoying thing (ok, one of the most annoying things!) about the sending off was that it overshadowed a really excellent bit of defending. Sensational recovery pace and did superbly to win a throw in. And then Oliver got involved…
He really was eating up that grass. I think his tall, sturdy build and upright posture underplays the speed and power when he opens his strides.

Thought he was as good as Varane; top performance and the red card was as absurd as I’ve seen.

Agreed, good post. He just needs to work on his decision making and execution of the final pass to be a very good player, as you put it. But the encouraging thing is that he's showing a lot of promise in the deeper phase of play, which is normally a problem for us. And as a youngster at Porto, Dalot was known to be very good in the final third, so hopefully with a bit of fine tuning on the training ground, he can improve on things that were seen as his strengths at youth level.

And regarding his pace and acceleration, he seems to have matured physically since he arrived as a teenager and does seem quicker now.

Moronic referee took the shine off what was a very good defensive performance. Was still inconsistent going forward but overall a commendable contribution

Always thought he was underrated here. One of the few players in our team who actually doesn't shirk responsibility on the ball. With AWB you can expect plenty of hospital balls which would spell disaster for a high pressing team like Liverpool.

Defended surprisingly well. Really poor going forwards, awful wide free-kick out of play just before half-time, cross straight to their keeper when we had players in the area, wasted a counter-attack situation with a poor pass.

Ridiculous red card, especially since he was correct about the throw-in.

He's a very good backup RB. Physically above average, mostly alright, doesn't do anything but run in a straight line high enough level to be a starter. Not a disaster on the ball but below average. Matty Cash is similar, though he also scores 2-3 goals a year from positions Dalot contrives a way to miss.

Played well today. I'd still keep him over Wan-Bissaka, I think he probably has less transfer value (English player tax) and it's easier to see him having a higher peak if his brain improves for a short period around 27-30, before his running goes.

Thats why he is so frutrating. The talent is clearly there. The way he just brushed of Salah in the end was a thing of beauty. He would be a monster of a fullback if his decision making was even half as good as the rest of him.

Spot on, that is Dalot in a nutshell.

It's ironic as people always say AWB is the defensive FB and he's the offensive one but neither of them is particularly good offensively, AWB and Dalot both have 1 assist in the PL although AWB has played half the games (and Dalot's assists was a terrible cross). In that system yesterday of basically shutting up shop, you saw all the defenders we have look a lot better because there was no space in behind and their jobs were relatively simple. I see him a very useful squad player but someone who could/should be upgraded quite easily at RB.

Top performance from him. One of our quickest players.

There were two moments in the game yesterday where he received the ball in the no.6 position and turned on a sixpence under pressure. Was very impressive considering that would be an unnatural position for him to receive the ball.

Good performance from Dalot, he is one of the players who has the confidence in himself to step up in difficult games. His issues are lapses in concentration, which are fewer when we're under the cosh as he doesn't have chance to relax or switch off. Needs to work on that going forward.

That's the one thing that he definitely struggles with. He's a good passer, he's decent at handing an opposition press, he can get forward well at times, but his crossing has always been terrible.

People only say Dalot is the offensive fullback if they think all fullbacks have to be either defensive or offensive. In reality the thing he does well on his day (he does have to be more consistent with it) is helping the build-up. He's a good passer out from the back, and he's good at moving central and providing an option to pass to who can turn through the press and play it forward (which we saw a few times against Liverpool). So he's there more for possession and control, rather than the classic defensive/offensive fullback.

Combine that with him being a very good athlete and also being good in the air, and he has the raw tools to actually be quite a good player in the right set-up. He just has to be more consistent with it. I also don't think he's been anywhere near as bad this season as what a lot of people are going on about. He had those two matches in a row earlier in the season where he got caught out by players running behind him which led to goals, and a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon of criticism for that. Which is ok, but they ignore the fact that the very next game AWB came back in and literally got caught out five different times the exact same way, but was just lucky enough that none led to goals.

I’d like to know what Dalot actually said as his hand gesture alone was not even worthy of a single yellow.

2 yellows can't be rescinded,it was harsh but it was also stupid
No it wasn't stupid - he complained about a bad decision that 99.99% of players in the league would also complain about. The one yellow was fair enough, but it was scandalous to instantly give him a second one.

He has all the tools to become a top fullbacks but has a tendency to make stupid passes and give away the ball needlessly.

Like almost all players in our team, can't also find the right pass on the final third.

If that was the case why can he still not cross a ball after 6 years here?

Also Dalot brilliant? Really? You must have a very low bar for what you consider brilliant.

I wouldn't be Neville's biggest fan and I do find him somewhat overrated by some. But he was an infinitely better fullback than Dalot will ever be.

He could cross a fecking ball for a start.

He has pace, technique, game intelligence, physicality, and more critically great attitude. He just needs to further develop his game, especially the decision making at the critical moment in offensive play. He will get there very soon.
