Do not give any dime to this manager! It makes no difference. Is he still trying to extend Fellaini’s contract? Such a waste!

People bashing Mourinho need to go back and watch the football he's played at Chelsea (twice), Madrid and Inter (at times).

It's the personnel. Our attacking wide players are all either potential / strikers (Rashford / Martial), or just not that good / decent (Mata, Lingard, Sanchez / Mikhi before). A lot of the blame for that lies with Mourinho though. Sign someone like Salah or Mahrez who'd be natural on the right flank and our attacking shape would be so different.
This is a joke, right? Check Jose’s Chelsea transfers if you don’t know what I’m on about

Except you're forgetting Jose has signed 8 players since his arrival.

And Salah? Really?

Not going to make any difference at all. Jose is a manager stuck in his own hype, his own arrogance and his own past. His comments after the game have been a disgrace ( '...I have sat in this chair before...' ) etc. How dare he spend £300m, and produce a team that plays like that, at home, in the biggest game of the season, and then say this.

Unless he shows a huge, huge change of mindset (and I simply cannot see that...) I want him to leave, because I don't think he is what the club need, and i think there are other managers that are able to ensure we are competitive in the Europa League, and League Cup, and challenge the top four, whilst playing a brand of football that respects and reflects Manchester United FC. There are some extremely good players at United, who want to play a certain way. But that isn't happening under Mourinho. No way.

.. and just to clarify, I am not stating that being 'competitive in the Europa League, and League Cup, and challenge the top four' should be our aspiration, but it's where we are now. I think there are manager's who can provide this, and possibly get more out the current players, and take us a little further.

Imagine Conte at United for example... just an example...

No you can't stay that, it doesn't suit the anti Jose narrative!

We are actually midtable and haven't scored lots of goals, this is all a dream!
I mean, I’m not even sure there are any options out there who are available and better than José at this moment in time. I even like the guy. I’m not having this anti-José narrative though, that’s just very narrow minded. I was firmly behind him until yesterday, now I’m not sure. Does that mean I have an agenda?

These moments decide seasons, ours was a crash and burn sort of exit no matter how you look at it. I also think the discussion around how we set up and the players output under said setup has merit, don’t you?

Is there any difference between Moyes style and Mourinho style?

There are more similarities between them, both are defensive coaches and both know feck all about attacking.

I am guessing if Moyes had this team, we would be around 2nd or 3rd also.

? Are you referring to Salah being sold? It's a similar case to De Bruyne, fringe player that wasn't quite there yet, that went away to Wolfsburg / Roma, got better, and kept improving since. Some similaries to us losing Pogba, though obviously Fergie didn't want to get rid of him. Anyhow that would probably be my main criticism of Jose atm - I'm not sure how good he is at evaluating our attacking lineup. There's no way he can deem this current lot good enough compared to say his RM team.

And only one of them have been a wide attacker (Mikhi, who's now been swappes for Sanchez). And no full backs. Wide attack and full backs are the positions we desperately need players in. It's fair to criticise him on attacking transfers. And why not Salah? He's been great this season. Someone like that on the right for us would take us up a level.

This is a forum where plonkers are advocating the sale of Pogba, meanwhile arguing that we should be bringing in more players because the team isn't current players aren't good enough. It beggars belief.

Second, third or fourth, does it really matter? When we're miles off City from first than we are fifth. It all means nothing apart from getting the CL spot.

It really grates on me when people use Premier league positions to cover how bad and inconsistent we are under Mourinho. As a team we are far off playing football like how Liverpool,Spurs and City are.

A second place position won't hide that for long.
What does the CL matter if the same happens again. We might get a really hard group for a start. We need a manager who can get the best out of the players attacking wise. That is not Jose.

It won't matter who we bring in if Jose manages them. If they do work for Jose it will likely mean we are playing even more dire, boring football and they are great exponents of it.

No.

"The more players" arguments needs to stop, especially when its clear we are not getting the best out of the current crop of players.

Sanchez turned to dross a lot sooner than I was expecting. I feel like he's gone backwards in his short time here.

We have signed Mata (player of the year at Chelsea) we signed Di Maria (best player of the CL that year) we signed Falcao, we signed the fantastic talent Depay (who was sooo much beter than Sterling), we signed Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin that were going to solve our midfield troubles, we signed Ibrahimovic the championmaker, we signed Mkhitaryan the best player of the bundesliga, we signed Pogba one of the best midfielders in the world, we signed Sanchez etc...

But people keep saying we just don't have quality players.

The thing is there is no plan or strategy to our transfers, there is no plan or strategy towards building a team and we are just a bunch of overpaid stars. The wet dream of our marketing department to build a brand around and use for commercials but ultimatley not even good enough to progress against an average sevilla team.

Sportive management of this club is just fecking shambles. Ferguson left a mess when he retired in 2013 and it seems the only thing that was holding this club together on the sportive area was just Ferguson himself as a person which is fecking ridiculous for a club this magnitude.

Better players and I reckon we would be far more precise on the counter which would make Jose's tactics better and more consistent. However I do not think the style would change much and we would still not control games and get played off the park at times.

So really its case of if you think another manager can bring better long term success. Not sure at this juncture and really I still think Jose deserves a chance to build and evolve. If he doesnt then I fear the board will have to sack him at some point because I dont think his current tactics will give consistent success.... like at Chelsea it would be too easy for us to hit a very rocky patch as our style of football is not a superior one. I.e. I see an accident waiting to happen.

One thing I am sure of though is that when/if Jose does leave, even if prematurely, the club and squad will be in a much stronger position than when he arrived.

No. The club has a lot of underlying structural changes to make before we start to set the world alight again. For me the problem is Woodward. Great guy, makes a lot of money, keeps the owners happy but we've just become obsessed with commercialism and forgotten about the football. Our transfer policy is a symptom of his Galactico policy, not the cause. Things won't be fixed by continuing with it.

It's why I don't put all the blame on Mourinho. He's a coach and could be doing better but there's something wrong with the club at a more underlying level. This was also highlighted by Van Gaal who is also not a bad coach despite popular opinion.

Hell if I know how to fix it though. I'm expecting this to be the norm for a while.

Has he though? Wasnt exactly sparkling at Arsenal this season. And now he has been shoe horned into the team in an area that didnt really need any strengthening.

Again thats his fault. He has made 8 signings, maybe his priorities were not right

The signings you’ve made seem a bit scatter gun. The likes of Sanchez and Pogba seem like they were signed because they’re world class players, not because of what they would add to Mourinho’s tactical set up.

Matic is the sort of signing that Mourinho wanted because he knew he’d improve the way his United play.

I think you need to be smarter with your recruitment.

Sanchez was better when he joined. The enthuasiam was there, the first touch, the dribbling, the movement, the turning on a six pence etc. All that seems to be missing now.

We were all excited to have a proper winger in the side and someone who Rashford and Martial could learn from. Now many are asking why Sanchez is playing ahead of them two.

We could sign Ronaldo to play on the LW, Messi on the RW, and Lewandowski and we'd still grind out games.

The problem is not the players. Everyone knows what the problem is.

To answer the OP, yes it does matter, as it's fairly apparent that it's the only thing that'll change. So Mourinho will bring in players he can trust and hope that they can execute his gameplan better than the current crop.

It shouldn't matter to the extent that it does, though. He has some very good players at his disposal. If he was improving them and having them playing in a system that maximised their strengths rather than tried to nullify those of the opposition, then the whole transfer side of things would be much less pressing.

Nope, it's a constant cycle. You buy a midfielder this time, you then start looking at new options for fullback, and so on... This is a never ending thing, with every club tbf.

However having said that, the ROI on transfers post Fergie has been abysmal, to say the least. Star players not working out, shelling out big money for average players. I can only conclude that we just look at names, rather than finding players who are right for the system. At some point, it is bound to click, but it's still a poor utilisation of resources.

No it would not make a difference who we Buy. The players we have like Rashford, Martial, Pogba, Shaw, have just gone backwards under Mourinho. I hate what he is doing to players and club now.

Mourinho could take over the squad at City and still fail to match Pep. He's a dinosaur.
This is a really good post and way to think of it! his tactics are ancient, would play de bryune in DM

Well specifically I was on about the fact he both bought and sold him. I don’t buy the wasn’t ready argument, players thrive on game time, something neither of those 2 got at Chelsea, though to be fair, it’s a PL problem in general with the demand for instant success.

Living in dreamland if anyone thinks Liverpool would sell him to us anyway.

Not at all. We have signed some fantastic players, who have suddenly nose dived since being at the club. So frustrating.

Pogba was a Uefa XV player before joining us. Only midfielder outside of those Madrid/Barca sqauds to do so since gods knows when. Every club was desperate for him, Chelsea, City,Madrid,Psg etc. Sanchez was the best player in the league. Chelsea, City, Us and Pool all desperate for him. Same goes for Mata. Other clubs would bite our hands off for Martial and they will literally in the summer. Ibra, PSG's best player and champions league hopefuls..

Then the players we have binned off for not being good enough, midfielders especially. Schneiderlin. Southampton fans were begging Wenger not to sign him. Poch and Wenger were both desperate for him. Schweinsteiger was DFB captain. Mkhi bundesliga player of the year. Depay new Ronaldo. Di Maria best player in the champions league. It's a cycle. We could sign Seri and Kroos in the summer, watch then turn to shit and the cycle repeats.

LVG, Moyes and Jose are all negative pragmatic managers. Jose's squad at Inter fell apart as soon as he left, and they havnt recovered since. He improved and put faith in Eto, Milito and Cambiasso. Got the best out of them and they retired shortly after. His treatment of De Bruyne/Salah is especially worrying. It gets worse every year. There is definitely a poison associated with Jose now, a certain stink. It's going to hurt our recruitment soon.

You look at what fans on every rival forum are saying. Nothing to do with UTD hatred bias. All are in agreement that we pay negative shit on a stick football, and have done for some time.

Somewhere in your mind, touching a nerve
There are still gaping areas in the team that we need to solve. Far too many average players playing in key positions. We still definitely need:

- a new left back
- a new right back
- a midfielder
- a right winger

The current players are good enough to beat Sevilla. The manager is good enough to plot a victory against Sevilla.

So no, it doesn’t matter. We’re now the club equivalent of England. We turn up, perform like shit, go home and count the money.

Dig up stupid!
we probably need a RB and a midfielder but generally our squad is excellent and more than good enough to compete domestically and to the later stages in europe
what we need is an identity which isn't mired in total negativity

Nope, because we have Jose as manager. When will we stop hiring managers who either never had it or are past it.

No it doesn't matter at all.
We will probably end up signing Dybala in the summer, yet continue to play to Fellaini's strengths.
I would love to hear what plan Mourinho had in mind when he signed Sanchez

No it doesn't. The only signings Mourinho has made that have been successes have been Bailly, Lukaku and Matic to an extent (not so much in the latter half of the season). Zlatan on a free was a no-brainer.

He has signed two apparently world-class players in Pogba and Sanchez and has no idea how to utilise them.

Don't give him megbucks.

Is been pointed out several times that Jose wont change how he plays, so if getting new players will change our approach then you will be dissapointed but individual quality will improve our result all be it marginally.
There is a reason the game is played by 11 players....TEAM. At the moment we look nothing like it.
Those saying Jose will have city as good as Pep are actually been hypocritical. For starters Jose will not have KDB and Silva as part of a midfield 3, the Sane and Sterling wont be playing that high up.
I think is time we cut ur losses with the manager as we really dont have an endless kitten to sell Pogba and Sanchez and replace them again.

We could buy Messi and he'd look like Benteke. Our scattergun transfer strategy is abysmal.
 Very true. Throw as much money as you can against the problem to get as big a name possible, excellent commercial value and hope it works out. Jokes aside getting back to the question, Does who we sign next really matter anymore, If it is a manager, yes definitely, player no so much.

You can sign any player in the world but at the end of the day they have to play to what the manager wants them to do, if they don't then the scheme doesn't work and generally unravels. This is partially why I believe we are where we are, part of the problem is that no matter who we sign Mourinho will always play negative anti football tosh, the other half is I don't think players like Pogba etc are buying into it anymore, hence the recent 'issues', at the end of the day they are footballers, i'm sure they want to enjoy their football, there's no way you're telling me that the likes of Pogba, Martial and more aren't looking at our domestic and European rivals in envy at how they are playing the game, on their day these kinds of players would be loving it in playing under Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino, Sarri, Jarim, Tuchel, I could go on..

Mourinho is signing players that fit a concept that in his mind is what you need to win the EPL. And i think he is right in this point. He could very well win the EPL in the next two years.

But in the CL you need more mobility in the midfield or you will be dominated even by an inferior group of players.

I think that anyone can see that this isn't about the quality of players we get anymore , unlike the lvg era we are now in a great position to move on with a progressive manager . Is there really anyone that we could sign who would change us if Jose remained the manager? We have been 7th and had a lot of shit losses but this is the worst I have felt since fergie left because before this I always thought that we would become better but now I am certain that we won't sack Jose and it is not going to better
it always matters
