Malan has to play now imo so it’s between Roy & Brook for the final spot. Kind of sad to see Stokes limping so much after playing a sensational innings
Sad in the overall sense but in the context of the last two years it's really nothing to worry about.

I bet New Zealand can’t wait for the day Stokes retires. How ironic as well given he’s NZ born?

With our depth in batting, you have to think it's a matter of time till we hit 500 in a odi. I know we got to 498 vs Netherlands but...

England should have done it twice now to be honest. Against Netherlands and Australia when they hit 481. They tailed off towards the end in that match.

I'm not sure we'll ever be quite as explosive as Roy, Bairstow, Hales, Buttler and Morgan as 4 of the top 5 (although Root was in the side, he was dropped down to number 7 because the score was on). It was an unholy combination of almost nothing going wrong and likely won't come along again soon.

England have surpassed their highest ODI score at The Oval.

Only one side has posted a higher total, New Zealand (398-5 in 2015).

Faded out in the last 5 overs, might give NZ a sniff.

Regardless these are looking like good warms ups.

It's pretty silly to get bowled out when 350-5 or so with 7 overs left. No need to keep swinging at everything, a run a ball basically gets you 400.

It comes with it. If it clicked we'll all be saying how it was brilliant of England to keep that run rate up and to get to 420 ish...

I am all for aggressive batting but I don’t agree with the idea that what happened at the end comes with it. You need slightly more game intelligence than that . This is exactly what got England in trouble last WC when they lost to Sri Lanka from a comfortable position

If it becomes a proper pattern of reckless batting criticism is always justified. Bit of a weird freak innings today, let's see how NZ go.

A proper battering today - but the lack of ruthlessness at the tail end of the innings must frustrate Buttler & Mott. Stokes - what a man.

Oh this argument is back!
Absolutely not, I am all for aggressive cricket.

Maybe, but I do think there's a difference between encouraging your top order to go hard, and counter attack if required, when you have specialist batsmen at the crease and more to come. But at the end all the hardwork had been done, it didn't need a massive attack to get to something competative, it only really needed a cherry on top.

Morgan as well. Remember him being a guest at OT a couple of seasons ago.

Root has not looked good at all this series.
Feels like Root would be far more effective just playing orthodox. He’ll go at a run a ball which is fine in most situations.

Possibly the first time Root has actually looked out of form. Could maybe do with being added to the squad for the Ireland series, you'd think Roy will be as well.

He looks to be struggling to do that as well.
I’ve been in meetings to be fair, but I’ve definitely seen a few slog sweeps and ramps that have completely missed the bat. Not sure they’re going to help if you’re mis-timing the ball.
