Enzo Fernandez | Chelsea €121m player

I feel for him. He’s been consistently good in every game so far. He will be wondering what he’s done.

Really feel for him. This Chelsea form, who could've seen it coming?

I don't think he requires a pity party. I doubt he's thinking why did I join Chelsea after a few months and having quadrupled his wages. I reckon he's thinking who is this incompetent bloke in charge and when is he getting sacked.

Still a baby when it comes to English football…add to that he only had half a season of Portuguese football, it’s such a small sample of games.

But the transfer fee is ridiculous and should be mentioned in every post as per the norm for United players.

He’s not playing well at all from what I see. He looks better than the shit around him but that doesn’t mean he’s playing well, he’s just playing better than the shit around him

He certainly isn't playing like 121m signing, but it's not his fault Chelsea overpayed, that's on Boely.

Anyways Benfica will always ask shiton of money for their players, especially if they are young, you have to overpay to buy Benfica players.
And I believe the only Benfica player who delivered lately have been Joao Cancelo, the rest were not up to the hype they built in Portugal, besides Cancelo i think we have to go back to Rui Costa to see a Benfica player actually living up to the reputation after leaving the portuguese league, Porto and Sporting CP have a better ratio of success.

Weird take.

Ederson, Ruben Dias, Di Maria, Matic, jury’s still out for Nunez, and I suppose Felix, but Benfica have had some great exports

Ederson, Oblak, Di Maria, Matic.

Edit: Looks like people got there before me!

He’s doing fine. Not his fault Chelsea paid that crazy amount of money for him.

Decent player but the ridiculous price tag will always be huge weight on his back. The guy in Benfica who is in charge of sales deserves a raise.

He's a good player, he'll shine when Chelsea bring in some attackers who can hit a barn door.

Does 'not his fault he was paid crazy amount of money' thing go for other players too or just Enzo?

Needs to be dropped with Kante back.
He's a decent player and I feel people shouldn't be too hard on him. As I keep saying - he needs to study more accomplished players like Sabitzer and Fred to take his game to the next level and learn how to impact games at European level.

If he can attain the level of those sorts of players (scoring for fun in Europe), what a bargain he'll end up being. sorry ... lel

Marvellous

He’s an ok player, that’s it. He’s overpriced if his fee was cut in half.
I really don’t understand the leeway he gets on here though

What leeway?

Watching him play it seems obvious he has all the makings of a midfield leader a top team can build their team around. I'm 100% sure with a proper manager in place the structure of the whole team will get more solid and Enzo's role will stand out even more.

If someone was expecting him to be a regular goalscorer or someone who will magically fix our otherwise disfunctional team despite terrible manager(s) then that probably tells us more about them than it does about Enzo.

Someone compared him to Kross which I think is a pretty good comparison. His passing is not that good though, and he does get dribbled by an awful lot, still he’s a very decent player.

He's definitely a good player and an exciting prospect, but at the same time he got a bit overrated after the world cup. I mean the young player of the tournament award doesn't really mean that much when you are on the winning side as the only eligible player.

Still has it all to prove. He does have the tools to have a very good career though, although judging by his decision making in joining that circus, there's also strong odds he blows it.

He looks a good, tidy player with a decent passing range but I feel he gets rated more on his hype and desperation for him to live up to the fee more than his actual performances for Chelsea so far with how giddy people get about him doing nothing particularly special.

My point is perfectly encapsulated with your first paragraph to be honest

Put him in a functioning team and he will look a lot better, although he hasn't been bad as some of you make him out to be. He'd probably be considered world class already if he was playing for Brighton

Is it though?

How is it 'giving him leeway' when I say that I'm already seeing what qualities he brings to the table and like what I see? He's been pretty much exactly the player I was expecting him to be and is definitely good enough for the next manager to make a key player out of.

Enzo basically does all the same things Jorginho did for us but is a lot younger, somewhat more athletic and better at shooting from distance. Jorginho looked like a headless chicken under Lampard's management in 2019-2021 but under Tuchel's more solid team structure he was for brief period one of the highest performing midfielders in the world before his age started to catch up with him.

There are many aspects of Chelsea that are very much up for criticism at the moment but Enzo is probably the one I'm least worried about.

It is leeway. He’s been bought for 120m and apparently you can’t play him deep or he’ll be dribbled past but when he does push forward he isn’t that very creative.
Its a factor of being in such a poor team but he isn’t walking off the pitch as the 1/2nd best midfielder from the game, you are constantly overrun and your midfield gets bypassed but Enzo isn’t helping in stopping that.
Everybody in your squad should be starting next season from square one, not one player in your side has shown anything to have future sides built around them nor has anyone, even Silva included, has shown any sort of leadership.
He’s just been ok, that’s it.

I actually think he’s a decent player. It’s just absolutely absurd though that he is the most expensive premier league signing ever. If it wasn’t for the price tag he’d be judged in much better light. He doesn’t stand out as a different level to others on the pitch but goes about his business well.

It can’t be easy performing in a complete mess.

I am surprised to see so many negative comments about him. Everytime I have watched him play, he has been really good.

120m is alot for him but United could easily do with a player like him in the team.

I've seen him play a few times and I don't understand the hype at all?

He doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade on Jorginho?
