Janssen, Jordy Clasie and especially Bruno Martins Indi.. why are they anywhere near the NT? At least this is just a pre-selection, but these players shouldn't even be considered.

Noa Lang being left out of this pre-selection is pretty suprising. He's obviously quite a character, but he did pretty well in the last set of matches. Didn't think he'd be dropped already.
I recall reading Lang is injured.

Does any other country have a 'pre-selection'? I never heard of it, but then I don't follow that stuff anyway. Either way, I'm curious what's the point. To provide some encouragement to players that are currently close to joining the NT? (And the subsequent disappointment of being just not close enough...)

We're pioneers.

The only reason I posted it, was because it was a headline on NOS. It's free advertising.

Not really, Rensch is far better in the mind of Van Gaal because Rensch can play every position in defense, that's the reason Van Gaal gave the first time he called up Rensch. Easy player to free up some other spots in the squad
I'd have picked Rensch too because he's better offensively and would make for a better wingback.
We're kinda stacked at RCB, which is where Geertruida would play in this system.

Frimpong makes the most sense as backup to Dumfries.

Geertruida can also play anywhere in defense and even in midfield. Rensch is perhaps a slightly better dribbler, but Geertruida is a far bigger goal thread, physically far stronger and more versatile. If they'd switch teams Geertruida would have a much easier time. He's actually the only outfield player I wouldn't swap for the one Ajax has in the same position. Though after seeing Hanco's debut, left back might follow :P

Neither Rensch nor Geertruide are anywhere near the Oranje starting XI either way.

Xavi Simons

5 games
6 goals
2 assists

Is he the next Dutchman to be linked in the EtH revolution!?

If we play wingbacks Hateboer/Karsdorp are options which make sense as well as they are doing very well in the Serie A.. Only we Dutchmen dont really seem to rate them (especially Hateboer, who seems to have really hard feet)

Noppert, BMI, Frimpong, Struijk, Clasie, Janssen shouldnt be near this squad..
If you go include the Rensch/Taylor type of talent as well Xavi Simons cannot be missing out.
Botman should be in here
Where are Danjuma and Malen? Are they injured?

Besides Frimpong I agree with your post. I think Frimpong is an interesting prospect that should be looked at.

Danjuma and Malen are injured.

Vincent Janssen's comeback is so weird to me. Sure he's now actually scoring in Belgium, but there is no logic whatsoever behind some of Van Gaal's choices. Noppert almost seems to be a selection based on watching him make a few saves in that Feyenoord game on sunday evening during Studio Sport. Van Gaal is always bound to make a few "look at me" decisions, but these are just weird.

Clasie and Martins Indi are also ridiculous choices. They will not improve on their current level and that level is nowhere near what we're looking for. Just add Xavi Simons then or I dunno, Quinten Timber (not good enough but at least young enough to improve).

Harsh on Xavi I think, whenever I’ve caught a PSV game he seems to jump off the screen. Feel like that midfield could do with some dynamism he could potentially provide. Also think Wijndal wouldn’t look out of place as there’s only one true lb in the squad (blind aside).

I'm convinced PSV would be in the CL if Ruud had put Xavi in the starting line up against Rangers. Not only because of his evident skill, but also his mentality. He is clearly willing to fight for it whereas Gakpo looks like he's being forced to play against his will, is severly hung over and slept for about 2 hours the night before.

Same.. Xavi should have started in midfield in stead of Guti to provide some more pressure when Rangers has the ball, but he also adds so much dynamics to PSV's attacking play.. Gakpo - even though I think he is a good player - rarely delivers in the more important games against the better opponents..

I have the feeling he does this deliberately as well..

If so, I hope he drops Bijlow. Fumbling cnut :wenger:
I feel like he would've been much further in his development if he hadn't been injured so much.. He has to regain form and start up every time again.. Waste

He actually seems to have become a bit timid after his latest injury. A few years ago he was too much of a kamikaze pilot, but now he seems afraid of injuries.

He was acty quite good yesterday aside from the second goal, but those mistakes are becoming a regularity

Nope, next week.

GKs select themselves to be honest: pasveer, cillessen, bijlow, flekken and drop whichever of the first 3 gets injured.
Well if we merge all of them together you get 1 injury free GK

It's astonishing how PSV keep letting NL down in Europe. If we do manage to get the 2nd CL place, it would be pure karma if PSV then end up being behind Ajax and Feyenoord or AZ, still not getting the CL place. They just don't deserve it for all their European failures in the last 5 years. Their European performances are truly pathetic.

Based on yesterday it will be very hard for us to obtain that extra CL spot. AZ was also very poor, but at least AZ is in an easy group and should be able to get a lot of points in this group. PSV could easily be eliminated based on yesterdays performance and the same goes for Feyenoord (but at least they have a decent excuse with all the mutations in the team).

The better question is, would it be a decent goalkeeper even after merger?

It's sad really. After Van der Sar we were always going to struggle, but even prime Stekelenburg is something we can only dream off these days.

2010 Stekelenburg was the best GK in the world, kinda. So that wasn't that bad. But it's crazy to think that he's still playing

That save against Kaka's shot is the reason we got past the quarters. 2-0 would've ended that match.

Van Nistelrooij hasn't been very convincing so far. I suppose the tactical transition (from Schmidt) that he's looking for is significant, but still, time to start getting some convincing results against quality opposition. (Which the Monaco tie wasn't either.)

Schmidt's psv was also crap in Europe. The biggest difference has been Gakpo underperforming in the earlier fixtures (due to the transfer window I suppose).

I was always skeptical of Ruud as a manager. I struggle to see what a fox in the box knows about tactics.

In my opinion Taylor for sure. It's criminal to have Kudus on the bench and Taylor on the pitch. Taylor is average. I feel like he's pushed into the team just because he's a youth product. That's also why so many fans push (and overrate) him. He is average though. Kudus is a much better player.

With the false 9 not working last week I feel like Tadic will/should be a #10.

----- Alvarez ---‐- Kudus --------
‐-------------- Tadic ------------------
Antony - Brobbey - Bergwijn

In CL against the better opponents I'd still start Tadic as a false 9 and then put Berghuis or Klaassen in at #10. Berghuis I suspect might become a problem in the group though if his role starts to decline - which should probably happen.
I wonder if you still feel this way...

Alvarez stopping a counter attack which is a blatant yellow and then kicking the ball away was a bit curious. Are you allowed to give 2 seperate yellow cards for that?

You are, was it Martinelli a few years back who got it for 2 fouls after a continuation? Someone from Arse at least. Don't know why it wasn't done, although usually in first half refs are much more lenient with kick aways.

It was a very weird move from Alvarez at 2-0 up.

Yea, its not like they were threatening a quick play on or anything. Probably a combo of home cooking and first half leniency. When do you think Ajax loses their 100% record? My guess is a draw away to AZ next (my darkhorse candidate to finish second - sorry ;))

Nah, probably some dumb away game where none of the chances go in.

I think positions 2-5 or quite open for Twente, AZ, PSV amd Feyenoord. Though I think PSV will probably end 2nd.

I had such high hopes for Ajax going down a couple of levels this season, but no sign of it so far. I don't think they've played a top club in the league yet, but with their current form and level of fluidity, those shouldn't be much of a problem either. Oh well. If you do keep it up, I hope they at least combine it with a strong CL run - cause it'd be a bit lame if they boss the league and suck in the CL.

PSV in the meantime - sigh. As @Daslogisch said, they should really up their game in Europe. It would be huge for competitiveness within the league if the Netherlands got that second CL spot. But they're not helping!
