Should have been sold this season. Appalling last season and this season won’t be any better.
How come we sign entitled players with questionable mentality while City buys players that are winners? What are scouts doing? We chased this guy for 2 years and ever since he has come here, he has shown no courage and commitment.

Only players with any kind of elite mentality in the squad are Martinez, Casamiro, Varane, Bruno. Says a lot about us. Hopefully the new players Arambat, Hojlund are better. Garnacho seems to be on the right path and with a couple of new additions, we may finally turn this malaise around. One can only hope.
I think this is why ETH is signing so many players that he knows. The scouts can assemble all the databases in the world, and present players with the right technical profile, but getting info on their characters, histories and natures and whether they meet ETH's criteria there, must be a much more laborious process.

Sancho always seems to play well in preseason preparations. It is nothing new just as how he seems not being able to maintain his form into the regular seasons.
"Player looks good in friendly warm up games where results don't matter" sure isn't the recommendation some people seem to think!

Ronaldo's baby daughter was ill in the hospital during pre season which Ronaldo was in distress attending to every day and this was just three months after his newborn son had passed. Ten Hag treated him like a piece of meat who had to prove himself when he returned, and apparently didn't even believe Ronaldo. He was humiliated

Ronaldo felt the only way to let people know how he was being mistreated was to speak out. And he exposed so many issues within the club which we are still reeling from to this day. Namely, the infrastructure, ten hag's tactics which Ronaldo had reservations about and the questionable training he was putting the players through. Ever wonder why our players are unfit and picking up so many injuries?

Listen to what Ronaldo said. This man played under peak Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelloti and never had these type of issues with them until he crossed paths with Ten hag, who has now treated players like De Gea, Sancho and Ronaldo like cattle. When Ronaldo speaks, you listen.

Open your eyes There's a common denominator here and it ain't f-king Christiano Ronaldo. Ten hag destroyed his career and he's now on his way to destroying both sancho and pellestri's career due to nepotism and having favourites. Don't be surprised when the rest of the players get fed up and then when Brighton run us over and you see an array of players not bothering to bust a gut to track back for the manager. You will know why

If Ten Hag wants to remedy this before things spiral out of control, he will get a sense of himself and be on the phone to sancho explaining why he felt the need to publicly oust him after we got beat by Arsenal
You Ronaldo acolytes are even worse than the Mourinho ones.

It's a good point about the treatment he was given last season. I had almost forgotten that. Erik ten Hag handled that really well, and kept it as quiet as possible to give Sancho and time to recover. Then he comes back with this crap, after a really mild criticism of his training effort.

I welcome a hard crackdown on this, if Sancho doesn't respond in the right way. Otherwise we can just get rid. The mistake in bringing him in for a large fee has already happened - it cannot be undone. ETH just has to assess the player he has on his hands, and ignore the transfer fee and the hype. And that player is someone that has not performed since being brought in.

As I've said I would fully support ten Hag and the club if they decided to drop Sancho from the first team squad. That statement he put out was fecking embarrassing and he still has it pinned on his twitter account ffs.

It’s not a good look for Sancho. Everything points at him not having the mentality needed to succeed here. What I don’t get is why this wasn’t flagged before we spent so much on him.

Personally don't think he should play for the club again.

Him using the word scapegoat in his post makes it 10x worse.

The simple fact is that if ETH doesn’t come down hard on Sancho and isn’t backed in doing so (which ultimately results in Sancho leaving the club), then ETH won’t be long in the job.

But he didn't hang him out to dry, when asked a question, he just said he wasn't selected because his training didn't warrant it. That's it. Straight answer, move on.

All the stuff about him being scapegoated for the result, all that shite that got used in clickbait and damning articles, came from Sancho. That is completely out of order. Where's the taking of responsibility? Players have a responsibility too.

If he doesn't apologise, Sancho has to go. But I am sure ETH has now concluded he's just too weak to play for us.
Ten Hag could've just say anything else other than that. He didn't even have to answer that question.
His response to that question started everything else.
edit:
I do believe than Sancho was stupid to put out that statement. But I expected Ten Hag to manage the situation better as he's the adult in this situation and he should know better ways to manage his player than putting out a public statement that can be construed as putting down his player in public

Nope. If ETH lies and says Sancho had an injury or illness that prevented him from playing, Sancho and his team could come out and say that it's a lie, which would lead to further drama. If ETH refuses to answer the question, the media begins a wild speculation about the reasons, which probably leads to days of media coverage about a potential fall-out or whatever. Instead ETH comes out and tells the truth, and all Sancho has to do is say something like, 'Yeah, haven't been at my best this week. I will strive to improve to get back in the team to help us win games', and that ends the story right there. He didn't do that.

Sancho is at fault. Not ETH.

Meh, I don't these sorts of character traits should be scrutinised by the media. Players don't have to be these larger than life characters to be successful on the pitch.

What they do need is work ethic and a winning mentality, which he clearly doesn't have either.

Tbh, its come at a worst possible time of the international break. The media has nothing better to do but milk this story as much as possible.

Ideally, Sancho should come to his senses and apologizes. Antony, even before the latest developments, was always going to present opportunities to be overtaken on the queue. With so many matches coming up, Sancho was always going to get a chance if he does the basics that are asked of him. Its not just Ten Hag, he's not done anything of note under Ole and Rangnick too. He's not in the England squad and needs to reflect why its going so poorly for him. Let's hope this gets resolved by the time we play Brighton.

All this coming out makes you wonder if there was more to the time off he had last season.
I said it at the time. You don't send one of your most expensive players off to get 'fit' when you're playing 3 games a week in all competitions. However you can 'ban' him for a set amount of time and tell him to get his shit together. This sends a message to the rest of the players that if you feck around there will be consequences.

I think the point their making is Sancho doesn't have the personality to succeed at United. He's too soft and too scared of scrutiny.

It was obvious that there was a risk regarding his character as he had some issues in Dortmund as well. But ultimately there he usually got it right, apart from short spells or moments, and he actually was a leading figure in that team, working hard and playing well.

So I guess that Ole etc believed they could manage him similarly well. It now proves they were wrong, and if I recall correctly most often he had problems when returning from holiday or international duty. Now he has problems all the time. Something is wrong for him in Manchester/England (even before moving to United) and whatever it is, it doesn't seem to improve. I also strongly believe that this unspoken thing is the reason why he was spending time in the Netherlands last season, instead of getting fit in Manchester again

Clearly the club are backing or appearing to back the manager on this issue.

The leaks to the media would suggest this and ultimately that's the right thing to do.

However potentially we could be losing Greenwood, Antony and Sancho.

Getting rid of Greenwood without any charges being against him wasn't a great precedent to set especially with a case maybe pending on Antony.

Will we be forced to treat Antony the same as Greenwood? Or Greenwood the same as Antony if we continue to let him play with us despite not being charged?

Interesting dilemma for the club. Ideally for me we'd let them both play unless proven guilty and charged with an offence. The same way Arsenal allowed Partey to play despite similar claims/case against him.

You can save your breath on that point. I did listen to what Ronaldo said, and in my view that was by and large a load of crap, from a player who had become a liability for his team, didn't want to take responsibility for his performances and wasn't prepared to adapt his game. And who responded to that by making disloyal, unprofessional and self-serving public statements that made it impossible for the club to keep him around. His behavior was unacceptable, his performances in that last season equally so, and that was all good riddance. If anything, ETH would have been justified in calling him out sooner, and playing him more rarely than he did. To try to construct a pattern of "nepotism" and mistreatment on that basis is totally absurd. And that's as far as I'm going into the Ronaldo debate, which doesn't need a rehash in this thread.

As much as I think it was stupid to post such a statement, the media is doing exactly what Sancho had enough of. Bunch of speculations and alleged insider leaks. Only Ten Hag and the staff will know the truth and I trust them to make a wise decision, whether it will be a punishment or re-integration.

I dont know what happens in training but same thing Sancho is complaining about, I was complaining about too. It definitely feels like ETH favors Antony despite Antony being awful. Antony was his signing of course so that would explain a lot. Sancho was never given a proper run of games on the right and I do think he is an old school right winger, not a left winger. We bought him for right wing in the first place.

He'll be gone in January...the briefings against him have started and he only has himself to blame. Another bad recruitment decision to lavish money on a spoilt brat. The public comments from EtH were clearly a final challenge to see how he would respond and he has failed the test.

Add him to the pile of "nearly men" signed by Woodward and the glazers

"nothing men" you mean. Let's face it, we wouldn't have signed any of these players if we didn't have a free run at them. We were so incompetent at signing good players under Woodward that unless no one else wanted them we'd never get them.

It is a load of bollocks to be honest. Scholes was introverted, a bit weird, never spoke to the press etc. There were no articles about him potentially having mental issues or whatever because he was hard working and delivered on the pitch where it matters.

Sancho needs to stop with the excuses already and start to perform or leave, this is not kindergarten.

Ten Hag got paid handsomely to manage his players, including Sancho. He needs to know how to handle different kind of personality.
Also, if Sancho can't be managed, he should've known about this after spending a season with him. Sell him this summer instead of letting the situation rot and this happened after the transfer windows close.

Andy Mitten saying United would have sold him this summer if a bid came in, and of course no one made a bid for him. Maybe that's why he's acting like a nobhead?

Sancho's also pinned his Tweet so he's doubling down on how he feels about it all.

The little shit still has the statement pinned on his twitter/X 4 days after the match haha. Taking the piss out of the manager.

The club gave him months away to sort himself out last season. First time he is questioned and boom! statement released crying he has been treated badly.

If someone is leaking this to drum up support for the manager, then they may want to reconsider.
I think they're getting across a mental health picture, not using it as a stick to beat him with. And if that's the plan, it's certainly working on me. If he has those challenges then ETH going public will have been completely the wrong approach. I'd still be surprised if ETH wouldn't recognise the difference between being an atypical personality (to use a broad term, even if it's a bit of a nonsense) and just being unmotivated/selfish/lazy.

It doesn't change the fact, that when asked, ETH did the right thing in telling the truth. There is a fall out because of Sancho, not ETH.

After the shit we've gone through over the last 4-5 seasons, I can't believe anyone is actually taking the side of Sancho in this, effectively advocating for more player power. The manager should have the power. If the manager says a player hasn't trained well enough, that player should look inwards and try to improve. Instead Sancho just tried to polish his image on social media. It shows he is not a serious professional. ETH already tried a different approach on Sancho, and apparently he is still not getting what he wants in terms of effort in training. We also see his half-assed performances on the pitch.

Perhaps ETH should have advocated for selling him during the summer. Who knows if he actually did, but the club was not successful in finding a buyer? It's not like Man Utd are conducting brilliant transfer windows these days, and I can definitely see the higher-ups being reluctant to sell a £80m winger at a big loss after just two seasons. ETH is not in perfect control of who leaves and who doesn't.

This is literally a feeding frenzy and everyone seems to be buying into it.

The situation seems pretty simple, as EtH said: Sancho didn't train as well as the others and so they were in ahead of him.

People just want to wrap more narrative around it - I think EtH is smart in that he is just always super objective in his communication and decision making.
