Rice has been great in the 2nd half to be fair.
Rice is a very good player. The idea that he would cost 100m, or even 75m, sounds utterly laughable, but then I'm reminded how we paid, back then a massive sum, 35m for Javi Martinez in 2012 and he was a missing piece to solve the puzzle.

Leipzig and Frankfurt saving Germanys reputation in Europe, while Bayern, Dortmund and Leverkusen went out more or less embarrassing.

Good game. Not undeserved for Frankfurt but West Ham were very good too.

I really like the look of this Knauff kid. Could be a bit of a outside the box option for a RW for us?

Wouldn't call Leverkusen embarrassing. They had some injury problems with Wirtz, Frimpong and Schick out and lost out to a Serie A team.

Elated we actually beat Marseille, but it shouldve been 4-2 at the end there. What the feck happened to Jahanbakhsh in England.

Unlikely. He looks great when he has got space, which happens often against superior teams who try to dominate the match, but he isn't that good for a dominant team. And didn't you already buy enough players from Dortmund? (He is only on loan in Frankfurt) ;)

He's on loan from Dortmund. Good luck convincing your fellow caf posters.

Didn't know he was on loan thanks.

I've only really seen him against Barca and he tore them apart, looked decent tonight too.

But yes if he's at Dortmund then that's not likely :)

He was also one of Dortmund's best players last season against Man City.

It's why I called him a big game player earlier today - if he gets the space he needs for his game, he isn't afraid to use it and tear them apart as you called it. But he just isn't the type of player who will cut through a tight defence. He fits Frankfurt quite well as a (upper) midtable team that has a history of going on great cup runs, where they often have to play against top teams.

So it's absolutely possible that he'll stay there, I think Frankfurt has a buy option for him.

Thanks, yes seems to suit counter attack sides. He's very fast and direct.

I don't think it's just that Frankfurt are a smaller side, it's also that they use him as a wing back and that role seems to fit his profile perfectly. As far as I know Frankfurt don't have a buy option and since Dortmund are trying to find their pressing identity again I would be surprised if they wouldn't try to integrate him into their team after his loan - assuming that he can keep up his performance level of course.

Rangers beaten by a late goal, surprised by Leipzig they struggled against a solid organised Rangers team.

The game at Ibrox will be an end to end game, should be expecting Leipzig to win but Rangers are going to be very hard to keep out.

At this point its looking like an all German final in the Europa and an all English final in the Champions League, wonder if the Spanish and British sides can turn this around.

Apparently some German radio commentators were attacked by West Ham fans during first half, got punched and headsets ripped off :wenger:

Have seen some of the Leipzig and
Rangers game.

Rangers have been utterly shit.
Also need to remember Rangers were playing with none of their central forwards. Morelos was always going to be a big miss in these games, but to then lose his replacement Roofe just as he was starting to find form is hard.

They started the game with a 532 formation & tried wide guys in Wright & Kent as the forwards, but that didn't work, so the tweaked it 2nd half for Aribo to go up front with Kent & Wright playing off him & they were a but better on the ball anyway.

So how would German football fans react to RB Leipzig winning the Europa League? Apathy?

The spending power and draw of each team is incomparable too.

To get through the game nearly unscathed is testament to Rangers, especially without a recognised striker.

Mostly yes, others would complain about the commercialization of football or such things.

The biggest problem people have with Leipzig is that they circumvent 50+1, which is a huge issue compared to other German clubs, but since there is no such rule in Europe and everyone is used to various sports washing outfits I don't think winning the EL would cause an uproar. Unless it would be at the expense of Frankfurt, who sort of represent what German (fan) football culture is supposed to be all about.

Looking likely for an all German Europa League final. Holland still miles ahead of Germany in the coefficients though!

It's possible for West Ham and Rangers to turn it around I think but the safe bet is on an all German final.

The Conference league is a godsend for the Dutch league. Well mostly our fantastic run in it

Not at all sure we will reach the final though. Margin should've been 2.

A lot were complaining about a third European competition, but I'd say it was actually quite successful. We have seen teams in group stages that would never appear there before and we finally might get a winner that isn't part of the big leagues.

I think we did as well as could be expected without any strikers and without our best midfield goalscorer in Ramsey. Morelos is a massive miss as he can single-handedly bully a defence with his back to goal.

Apparently, some Hammers supporters are a class act.

For the consumer it's always better to have more competitions, but it would be interesting to see how heavily certain teams rotated and how it will affect the domestic performance of participants. Because having an extra dozen or so midweek fixtures with very little financial compensation doesn't sound sustainable, especially since the step between EL and ECL qualification isn't nearly as steep as between CL and EL qualification in a lot of leagues.

You are right, but for me that's not a bug but a feature. Teams like PSV who are clearly better than most teams in their league should have no big problems resting players in the league, while it is much harder for mid table teams from top leagues.

They can't afford to focus on the ECL, so this is part of why I think there is no other competition in Europe where it is likely that a team outside of the top four leagues wins it.

Well, sit down in a neutral area in the Frankfurt stadium and cheer the wrong way or wear the wrong cap, and you'll quickly be in trouble, which can end violently. Experienced it myself.

These aren't fans they are commentators  there is no excuse.

Hopefully these fans are arrested and dealt with.
