Fair play from Dorgu

It's so refreshing to see what a difference it makes when a player really wants to play for the shirt.

We may be battling relegation but I would any day watch players like Dorgu and Heaven leave everything they have on the pitch than the overpaid prima donnas like Rashford and Sancho, throwing their weight around as if they are doing the club a favor by playing here. He played hard but fair. The first penalty call was also very loose but he didn't try to influence that one knowing that there was adequate contact and he was body checked.

On a separate note, I genuinely don't care if our rebuilding takes years as long as we are heading in the right direction and it starts with players like him - not a world beater but someone who sets the right standards.

Not sure about that. Solskjaer completely wiped out a Newcastle player through on goal. He had a nasty streak. I’m sure the same could be said about Raul.

That was being a model professional. His team were chasing a title, Newcastle broke through on goal, could have scored, he busted his arse to catch him and did what needed to be done.

I had more respect for him after that incident not less.

What do we think of his decision to tell the ref it wasn't a pen? I'm not a fan TBH especially as it wasn't even that clearcut in the end. Let the refs/VAR make that decision.

@Damien can we get a poll?
Won't let me create one unfortunately :(

Great, more players should be this honest

Terrible, it is never acceptable to turn down the chance of a penalty even if you know it wasn't

Mixed, unacceptable if the match is close but if in dreamland we're winning by 6, go for it

The Penalty had already been given and VAR were checking, Dorgu's comments would have zero bearing on the decision IMO so why not either VAR over turn anyway and he takes the kudos, or VAR uphold the penalty and he still takes the kudos, it is a win win situation.

But.... it came at a time where it was not vital, not sure how I would feel if it was in a different game and could mean us dropping points, but for now lets say "fair play" Dorgu

It would never actually influence a referee I don't think, they make up their minds and stick to it (or VAR overturns it)

So it's kind of a meaningless gesture really, but I think it was honest and genuine of him in the moment

Amorim: "It is the right thing to do so I am quite proud of him. But I cannot say if it is 0-0 or losing I have the same response."
I guess that's a fair summary of my reaction as well.

That said, I will say players come as a package. That same attitude that we saw from him as he kept running and kept trying all game is also the one that meant he wanted the ref to know what happened. Snipping out bits of someone's instincts risks losing the other bits that have helped them succeed.

So, hmmm yeah, be careful what you wish for.

Hopefully it will give him a good rep with the referees and he will get more favorable decisions when it matters more.

Agree entirely.

Was enjoyable watching Heaven and Dorgu. Young, strong, athletic, willing players. An absolute breath of fresh air. For a combined transfer fee of around 35M. Just proves It (significant improvement) can be done and doesn’t have to be expensive.

They will of course make mistakes along the way but these two offer so much more enjoyment and hope for us fans as appose to the ever injured Shaw and/or the not quite good enough Malacia/Telles/Reguilon

To think as well we have Pedro Leon coming in on that side as well. An absolute tank…also with strength, pace, athleticism and willingness

Add Yoro on the opposite side as well. Nice

Getting the RWB role nailed would be mega. Let’s hope todays Chelsea Quenda links are just clickbait

I've actually been wondering the last few weeks whether a player who gets a reputation for honesty in these situations (most notably by doing exactly what Dorgu did) will actually end up winning more penalties in the long term as referees recognise that the player isn't trying to con them and genuinely believes it is a penalty.

It'll take more than just a one-off moment like this to really develop that reputation and I doubt we'll see enough situations for that to happen, but it's an interesting thought.

Good bit of PR from him in a game where we won 4-1.

All things being equal, it'll mean that he might be able to buy us a penalty in a far more important crunch match as the refs will be like "THIS BLOKE DOESN'T LIE HE IS HONOURABLE*".

*unless it's any PL ref, who are fecking awful and make up the rules as they go along.

Also think we're now front runners for some sort of fair play trophy, which we can probably start counting in overall major honours.

My main gripe with it is do you think any of the Sociedad players would've done the same if the roles were reversed?

That kind of thinking would turn anyone into a villain.

If he’s got a heart of gold then United is lucky to have him, football should be played with joy.

Nice idea but at this level of the game that sort of honesty will cost you eventually. Nobody else would do it.

I still maintain that Fowler was telling the ref not to send the guy off. And all this "fair play" bollocks is just that, total bollocks.

I think its brilliant to see and actually clever, it was never going to be a penalty so why pretend like it was. We need to see more of it, also who wants to win games due to dodgy decisions.

A referee isn't going to change their decision solely on the word of a player so I don't have an issue with it. It's a nice gesture from him but would have had no impact on VAR checking it.

There should be pride in playing for United. I believe he showed that.

It's great. I don't care about who would've done it otherwise or about the opponent. Fair play comes first and that just speaks to character. You don't change your morals depending on who is affected by the decision. Easy to make an ethical decision when it doesn't hurt you, harder when it could be important. He should be applauded and it kinda says something about you if you are against that
100 %!

Love it and I really like Dorgu as a player. Might be our best buy in years.

Amad is the starting RWB. Competition would be good though.
