Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

I thought about Zoff and at one point thought about asking if being part of the squad pre '74 counts, but the op clearly states 'appearances', so he counts post '70.

It's a bit strange that in a draft game with so many complicated restrictions no one cared about reading the op carefully and asking questions to make sure, they get it right.

Indeed. Yet in my case, I read it carefully. The issue is more that I'm stupid and can't read about Zoff properly =P.

Stunned he didn't get picked earlier. I was in pains the other night trying to make the call between him and Chilavert. Chilavert was more impressive in-game, had great distribution (very handy) and a great understanding with Gamarra.

Since our penalty system is based on random R/L/C Top/Bottom choices I had to go with him, but Goycochea is in my mind the only keeper who ever has or ever will almost single-handedly win a World Cup. If the ref didn't make up that peno and Argentina took it to penos I could see him saving another two again.

The ref should have given the clear penalty when '...' was fouled and the whole thing would have been over earlier. Argentina looked clueless and tired and I highly doubt Argentina would have survived another 35 minutes of football. And even then, that Germany team was ruthless in penalties as well and our goalkeeper did fine against England in the semis. That final was always our win, imo. Argentina needed an incredible amount of luck to win that game.

Yep. It was a long wait from my last pick to secure Goycochea, for a world cup draft i thought he'd be an obvious pick for a keeper considering peaks.

I fell in love with Albert after watching the Hungary v Brazil in 1966, an amazing performance running rings round a team that had won the last 2 world cups. Again when considering world cup peaks that was nearly as good as it gets for me.

There was a couple of DMs i had considered but that would have left my team too defensive, and Hagi was an option until he was picked. Hopefully i've struck the right balance now.
