What are your favourite seasons/years by a footballer? Not necessarily their 'peak' seasons, but those which you enjoyed viewing the most.

Some of my collection:
'12 Messi
'97 Ronaldo
'05 Rooney

From what I’ve seen, Matthaus in 1990/1991 was one of the best years a midfielder has ever had. I recommend anyone take a look at some of his games with Inter from that period.

More recently I liked Nedveds 2003 a lot, and shevchenko in 2000/2001 made it seem like he was destined for the all time greats.

Unfortunate that it had to be for Chelsea, but Mata 12/13 was wonderful to watch.

That's miles more interesting than the usual teen fan boy stuff on here. I'm not familiar with Obiku, who was he and what did he do in 1995?

Ronaldinho 03-05. His initial years at Barca were unreal. Every time you tuned in to watch him he’d steal the show.

Scholes 07-11. At the heart of everything for us, quarterback playmaking.

Ronaldo (Phenomeno) 96-98. Absolutely unstoppable.

Scored the golden goal in the national cup quarter final against Ajax in 1995.

Big deal you'd think, but it's the only match they lost that year. They won the league without a single loss, the CL and the world cup for clubs, but we won the domestic cup, because he sank one of the greatest Ajax sides ever, took of his shirt and jumped over the boarding.

He wasnt a good player, not even really in that season, but he was (still is) a genuinely great guy with one of those infectious pearly white smiles. The epitome of a **** hero.

Some great Ajax players in that side. Daley Blind's dad causing the penalty for instance, Van der Sar on goal. The De Boer brothers, Overmars, Litmanen. All these great players defeated by Obiku. You can see from the goal he's no Bergkamp :)

For United players I'll try to limit to just five.

Ronaldo 2007/2008
Eric Cantona 1993/1994 (when he wasn't suspended that is)
Roy Keane 1998-1999
David Beckham 1998-1999
Paul Scholes 2002/2003 and 2007/2008

Honorable mention: David De Gea 2012-now

From non-United players

Luis Figo (Barcelona) 1998-1999
Pablo Aimar (Valencia) 2003-2004
Ruben Baraja (Valencia) 2000-2002
Juan Carlos Valeron (Deportivo) 2001-2002
Gaizka Mendieta (Valencia) 1999-2000

Most of the ones I wanted to post are here already, so let me make a honorable mention to Yaya Toure 13/14 - 20 premier league goals that season, he was a monster.

Cantona 1995/96 when we reeled Newcastle back in and it felt like it was a Cantona winner every week.

Kaka 06-09, my favourite ever player, just a complete gem.

Lukaku 13/14, the best striker we have had for fecking ages so in his first season it was magical.
