So should everyone just suppress their feelings and pretend that the second half was excellent?
We were absolutely fantastic in the first half. Two midfield substitutions later and all of that first half threat and hard work was very nearly undone.
I only saw the piece that Zarlak quoted.
That said, and reading the whole post, it's not that clever to mix believable opinions, which are shared by some knee-jerk fans, with wrong facts that not even these fans would get wrong.
We were controlling the midfield very well in the first half, with Carrick and Cleverley. Once Carrick got off, Sunderland gradually started getting back in the game. With Giggs on, they were actually going through our midfield easily. As usual Giggs was somewhere in the wings when he actually should've been in the central midfield.
And Rowem, I'm sure every one in this forum knows about Giggs scoring in every Premier League seasons by far. What the hell mate?

We were definately visibly worse off in midfield when Carrick and Cleverley went off. Scholes as good as he is passing the ball, is a liability defensively. Opponents just know they can run in behind him or take the ball and beat him for pace.
The fact that people write those posts for no reason, to then pointlessly point out that they were in fact sarcastic is more responsible for your perception in the second part of your post.

I think though this was a great example of asking more of these two than they can really give and it makes them look worse than they are. Scholes when he first came on was fine, he played some nice passes. Eventually though once Sunderland got in to the game the obvious issues in a Scholes-Cleverley partnership would be exploited. On it's own that would be ok but then we brought on Giggs as well, next to Scholes and it just made things worse.
Giggs on for RVP/Rooney would have been fine, or Fletch next to Scholes etc. Could even have gone Scholes and Fletch on with Clev. But Giggs and Scholes as a combo in the middle was just weird. If Sunderland had visibly given up than it would be understandable but they quite clearly were going for it.
I still think both have plenty to offer but there seems to be a real reluctance to acknowledge their weaknesses atm.

Yep - that is down to Cleverley not being good in the second half - he really wasn't, but Giggs was surely not as poor as some would have it. he tracked back and won the ball back, held the play up well and had some nice passes - nothing spectacular, but he did little wrong. Scholes was certainly below par and has been for most of this season unfortunately.
As I said, I think Cleverley was great in the first half - terrific performance, but when Carrick was substituted, he struggled to get on the ball and his defensive work was frail.
Not sure what the obsession is with giving Giggs and Scholes games. I think Fletcher deserves a few more minutes just by merit. Even Chicharito and Welbeck deserve to be thrown on (with Rooney in midfield) rather than those two.

After a completely dominant first half, we conceded enough chances in the second to have lost the game. It's not that hyperbolic.
The contrast between the 1'st and 2'nd half performances was very stark. I don't know if our loss of control was all down to the substitutions - football is a funny game - but it certainly followed them.

At the end of the day we won, and we won pretty comfortably. But as it stands I can't see the merit of Scholes or Giggs being given another contract in the new year. It is getting to the stage where they are genuinely tarnishing their reputation as Neville was practically doing towards the end of his career.
I don't know if Carrick was injured or whatever, but I don't have a problem with Fergie putting Scholes and Giggs on today. It was a good chance to give Carrick (if he's not injured) and Cleverley a breather ahead of the Christmas program.

And if we get unlucky with injuries in midfield we will be fecked because we don't have any decent cover.

You would think we'd have learned something from the Everton game last season but this was just stupid. Would have rather brought on Fletcher or moved Jones to DM than to get those two on together. Our midfield was a total disaster without Carrick and Cleverley.

After another display of "scandalous management" in our victory over Sunderland today, it may be time to force Fergie to step down. We can no longer accept the humiliating mediocrity of being up only six points in the table. If we can only manage a 3-1 win over a relegation candidate, how can we possibly manage Barcelona?
This is exactly how Scholes and Giggs should be used, to give the others players a rest. Fergie does the right thing and the caf still moans.
