Fratton Park, play up Pompey!
They've just moved everything around a bit.

I'm hoping that the 3-d match engine is either gone completely or made a hell of a lot better. At the moment it's pretty pointless.

Wrong picture - that is SI Football Excel 2010.

I hate the skin colour (I've hated it since Football Manager 2008) and the sheer effort required to skin or customise the UI is very disappointing.
According to FM Base its 2010

Currently season 2024/25 and still going strong. My mighty Havant & Waterlooville just beat Barcelona in the 1st knockout stage in CL. Sitting 2nd in the league.

Eh, what do you mean?

Either way, 7.0.2 was by far the most stable version of the game, although the game did tend to generate some players with the mental attributes of Roy Keane + Patrick Vieira + John Terry and so on, but they couldn't control a ball to save their lives.

Since then, they've added a confidence feature which is still broken and results in managers getting fired for silly reasons, a repetitive media interaction system which is silly and a media conference feature which is even worse and is guaranteed to piss off at least one of your players before a match. They've also managed to botch transfers so badly playing in Italy is unplayable due to silly co-ownership deals. Negotiations are stupid now and Mark Hughes needed his buying players attribute knocked down to 4 to prevent Manchester City from buying every single player for double their value. They also had the audacity to add a 3D match engine demanding tougher requirements than Counter-strike when the graphics are nowhere near that good.

SI have messed up seriously here and I'm expecting the new iteration to be pretty much the same - crap skin, broken features and I guarantee the corner bug will still exist in some way. Training will be the same despite the promises and the system requirements will go up again.

The lack of competition is making the whole franchise look stupid.

Sort it out, SI!

More options for player/board interaction would be nice.

For example, in my FM 2008 game right now the board is having a whinge at me for being 20k over wage budget with Southend, and yet there's no option for me to say something like "our biggest earners have decided to feck off at the end of the season, check back in 3 months idiots" (which I suppose would in game translate to "Say it will be dealt with in the upcoming off season" or similar)

the "confidence" feature that pisses me off the most is the way your new signings are rated. As United I naturally try to buy a lot of hot prospects - kids for around £5m or less. So I buy them, stick them in the reserves or U18's, and a month or two down the line all the fans are supposedly disappointed because my signings havent played much for the club, and so the board is concerned with my dealings in the transfer market. Oh the audacity.

That and the idiotic expectations get a bit boring. At the moment in my United game, I am expected to win every trophy, every year. Failure to do so results in big tellings off and major disappointment/threats by the board.

Yeah, an option for the press when you sign someone similar to when you're offering a contract saying Key player/Backup/Hot Prospect/whatever would be much better (and more realistic)

Another one that annoys me is when players get injured, and when they come back uninjured, but not fit, you stick them in the reserves. And they whine. And bitch. And moan. To the press, and your assistant. And there's no option to say "You'll be back playing once you're fit, moron"

That's the thing, it's harder. I ashamed to admit that I haven't won the league in two seasons on my United game (though the last season I salvaged it by winning the League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League). Granted, that is somewhat connected to the (still) terribly overrated Arsenal, but the game is harder than it was. There's no reason to think FM10 won't be the same. The difference with FM10 will just be that the new Tactics system will make it a lot easier to understand how tactics work.

Sports Interactive said:
LONDON (August 12th, 2009) – Sports Interactive & SEGA Europe Ltd. can today announce that Football Manager™ 2010 for PC and Apple Macintosh, and Football Manager Handheld™ 2010 for Sony PSP will be released on October 30th.

Football Manager 2009 is the most successful in the Football Manager series to date, clocking up 22 weeks at No.1 in the UK (PC charts) and selling in excess of 1 million copies worldwide, as well as being voted the 2nd best video game of all time in a recent Radio 1 poll. According to data gathered from Football Manager 2009, people played the game for an average of 240 hours each. However, developer Sports Interactive has been made aware via the vibrant Football Manager community that the addition of big new features in the last few releases has come at the expense of attention to existing areas of the game and solving long standing issues.

With this in mind, Sports Interactive has spent the last year working closely with consumers and the Football Manager community to implement key improvements to this year’s game. Football Manager 2010 features new tools and changes across the board including some big additions to improve ease of use, navigation and feedback from the game with the introduction of a brand new match tactics system, the debut of a Match Analysis tool, a completely new look and new User Interface among other features.

“We have worked very hard with the Football Manager community to target not only the areas of the game that needed re-working but also what we could add to improve what’s already there. We’ve also conducted extensive usability studies which has led us to overhaul the whole presentation of the game, which we’re really excited about,” said Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive. “There has been a lot of polish to existing areas of the game but it’s also driven us to introduce changes to answer some of the feedback. We’re very confident that having done that we will deliver the very best Football Manager to date in October.”

The introduction of a Tactics Creator makes it easier to instruct the team to play the way the manager wants, alongside the introduction of touchline ‘shouts’ and quick tactic changes for instantly altering your team’s playing style during the match. Working with coaches from various levels of football, alongside some of the Football Manager communities most respected independent tacticians, the game now has an extensive array of pre-set tactical options allowing the user to select a player’s role in the team (such as ‘Ball winning midfielder’ or ‘Deep lying playmaker’), however the option to use the old ‘slider’ controls remains.

Feedback from matches has been improved to give the user better insight into where their team is going wrong, or right. A new Match Analysis tool lets players see where shots, passes, crosses, headers, tackles, fouls and interceptions have been made on the field for all players on the pitch. Managers can view this analysis both live in-game and post match, allowing them to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of both their team and their opponent’s and adjust their tactics accordingly.

Football Manager 2010 features a brand new User Interface, with a light and a dark skin to choose from as part of a vibrant new look and has undergone a complete navigational overhaul. The side bar navigation of previous years has been replaced by an intuitive tab system at the top of the screen, making Football Manager’s famed depth easier to navigate and will make the game more accessible to new players.

A brand new Data Editor will allow the addition of new divisions to existing leagues and of entirely new leagues as well as making it easier than ever to keep the game up to date, and do so for free. The delivery of information to the manager has been refined with users now able to sign up to the News Centre, an in-game subscription based newspaper that lets you get the news that you want about the football world and filter out the stories that you do not need, making the football world as immersive as you want it to be.

Following the debut of a 3D match view in Football Manager 2009, this year’s release sees a revamp with improved AI, over 100 new animations for the 3D pitch view, new stadiums, crowds, realistic pitch degradation and better lighting, creating an even more realistic match experience.

Further new features will be announced via a series of blogs in the months leading up to the game’s October 30th release date which will ensure that Football Manager retains its position as the most realistic, most played, highest reviewed and best selling football management simulation in the world.

Football Manager Handheld 2010 also has a host of new features and improvements, including a brand new skin for the game and improved match engine AI.

When is this released? I've always never understood why FM or CM don't allow you to set up little online tournaments with your friends so you can play your current team of superstars against there's in meaningless games just for the hell of it. It seems an obvious addition to have to me

I dont know what to think of the UI, on one hand I am thinking atleast its fresh and new but on the other hand it looks abit cluttered and looks abit of a mess at first glance, hard to judge without playing I guess.

I could personally give a feck about 3D match engines, make the game more enjoyable this time around.

Is it just me or does it look absolute crap? Getting more and more annoyed with the millions of tactical changes you can make too. I'm still on FM08 which I think the balance is just about right, though the old games where you can get through a season in a couple of days were better.
