Footballers are stupid. Not really, they are mostly just normal punters, but unlike normal punters they get watched everywhere they go and right after a shift, get a camera stuck in their faces. Try explaining what you do to the nation after whatever mindless office job you have, and see how smart you sound.

Some snide sarcastic remark about a team/player I don't like as a way of belitting them on the sneak tip. i.e Ronaldo has nice hair, or doesn't look like an oily giraffe.

That the whole of the bernabeu applauded Ronaldinho when it was actually just two taxi drivers who stood up and clapped
Eto'o was also the better performer on that night, with Ronaldinho doing like 3 things the entire game; ultimately, he was anonymous for 90% of the match.

That transfers which don't work out end in bad blood between people running the business at clubs. These guys are professionals, I'm sure they have to talk the talk to some degree to appease fans, but I doubt they get vindictive in future dealings just because something didn't work out. It's pretty poor business to hold a vendetta over mistakes and failed agreements when you'll likely have to deal with that club again in the future.
I agree this is rare, but it does occasionally happen. Levy definitely held a grudge against us after the Berbatov transfer.

Nope, not true.

Something mooted several years ago (think Scotland raised it) that could have changed things but well after Giggs had played for Wales (and regardless, he would NEVER have chosen England).

Edit.... oh and P.S.. Wales IS a country.
I'd like to see some evidence of that because I'm unable to find any. Even if FIFA did enforce such a thing it would've taken a decent lawyer about five minutes to turn it around. If Giggs really wanted to play for England he would have.

And, yes, Wales is a "country" in the strange British sense but it's not an independent entity with its own citizenship which is what the word is generally used for outside the UK and its daft little arrangement.

That Howard Webb used to favour us.
Biggest myth of them all, he was shite for everyone and in his last seasons did everything he could to go against Utd and disprove what rivals used to say.

That we played poor football for the whole of last season.
Fair enough at the we were poor at the seasons end but before that (Christmas period) we played some of the best football in the league but just missed that final Beth of killer instinct.

Paul Scholes was wasted by England who used him as a left winger

There is so much historical revisionism with this one. Firstly, Scholes played the vast majority of his England career as an attacking midfielder. Even throughout the Euro 2004 qualifying campaign, Eriksson played him at the tip of a diamond with Gerrard on the left of the diamond and Nicky Butt as the holding player. However, Scholes went about three years without scoring an international goal by the time of the tournament and Frank Lampard was in great form so Eriksson moved Gerrard into the holding role, Lampard into attacking midfield and Scholes on the left side of the diamond (not the bloody left wing). Clearly it was the right decision as Lampard scored three goals in Euro 2004 and Scholes finally got a goal himself. One of the main reasons for this myth seems to be that from 2006 onwards, Scholes was an excellent deep lying playmaker who England were blind to have misunderstood the talents of, despite the fact that during his England career he had always been used as an attacking midfielder by Ferguson (or, less frequently as a second striker and, yes, even a left midfielder on occasion) and a "regista" was a niche position that was barely even heard of in England. If the "Golden Generation" had come about a few years later when English football wasn't so obsessed with 4-4-2, you might have actually seen a functional midfield comprising some of those great talents.

Look at my location, I can absolutely tell you 100% that Wales is a country with it's own government. We are, and have been for over 800 years, part of the United Kingdom.

Due to the fact that Ryan Giggs was born in Wales and his family was Welsh he was not eligible to play for England. FIFA had no way way of overturning this fact whether they wanted to or not as he was born in Wales, a separate country.

And even if he was allowed to play for England this is what he said on the matter. "I'd rather go through my career without qualifying for a major championship than play for a country where I wasn't born or which my parents didn't have anything to do with".

So he wouldn't have chosen it if he could.

And to further my point, the rules state that eligibility when it comes to international football teams is dependent on the players own place of birth and his family's place of birth, something that only applied to Giggs when it came to Wales.

The rules were ratified in 2009 to allow players to play for a different country if they did 5 years of compulsory education there.

So i'm sorry el terriblo, but you're wrong on every point you've made.

Wales and England are part of the same commonwealth, not the same country. Just like Germany and Poland are part of the same Union and Continent rather than being one country.
The comparison is more akin to saying Bavaria and Saxony are different countries as part of the same commonwealth.

English and Welsh people are both British citizens and Bavarians and Saxonians are both German citizens.

No offence but if you think the United Kingdom has existed for 800 years I'm hardly going to take your opinion on this very seriously.

And Germans, French, Polish, Italian people are also European Citizens, that doesn't make them part of the same country but part of the same union.

I'll give you a nice little example, in the UK we use our driving licenses as ID because we don't have the ID cards that the rest of Europe has. Each country has a different one, when I went out drinking in England once I was asked for ID and when I showed my Welsh driving license I was told my ID was fake because it looked nothing like their ones.

And btw, you ever call a Welsh person British to their face and you'll get your teeth knocked out so i'd be very fecking careful what you say to Welsh people should you ever have the pleasure of meeting one.

I've called many Welsh people British to their face and still have all my teeth (minus one troublesome wisdom tooth). Perhaps I just speak to the intelligent ones who know what a nation state is and that Scotland, Wales and England are not equivalents of Poland, Germany and Austria.

You sound like your emotional response to your homeland is overriding your basic geopolitical knowledge.

That a player who scores loads in a shit team will find it easier at a bigger club because better players will be around him.

That the great Spanish team were boring. It was only the Euro 2012 where they were a bit boring. In 2010 their football was outstanding and they only won 1-0 every game because other teams played so defensive in fear. In 2008 their football was incredible too.

That Pogba was poor last season.
Don't tell this to the people who expect much better play from Lukaku next season than what he showed at Everton :p

And how long do you believe it has existed for?
Since 1801 when Ireland and Great Britain united. Prior to that, "Great Britain" came into existence in 1707 with the act of union between the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England (of which Wales had been a part since the mid-1500s).

Seriously, read a book.

I don't believe you, there's not a welsh person alive who actually calls themselves British. The fact that you honestly think they are all one country rather than one kingdom shows that your views on the matter are based on a severe lack of knowledge. If we rellly were oe country then why couldn't Giggs play for England? Because you've gotten that wrong so far.

Really, I don't know what book you've been reading but it missed a few hundred years of history off.

But despite you're patronising attitude you're still unable to do enough research to know that Ryan Giggs couldn't have played for England.

Wales still isn't a sovereign state, I'm not sure how you can deny that. The internationally recognised, sovereign state is the United Kingdom. That's just how it is. It is really, really bizarre that a supposedly Welsh person does not understand this.

Because, in recognition of British contribution to football, FIFA allows the UK's members to have their own separate football associations. And these football associations have an agreement about player eligibility for their respective national teams.

That Pele scored over a 1000 professional goals. 50 a season, for 20 seasons at a minimum.

Yet only scored 30 while in America playing against drunken old has-beens and one legged Americans.

Amazing player of that there's no doubt. But his record has been hugely exaggerated, and as there's little TV coverage from that era - it's taken as gospel.

Theres definitely a touch of the Kim Jong IL about Peles records. Pele was so good at darts he got a nine dart finish with 8 darts, etc.

Yep, it seems to be something which was started by one person and everyone is copying.
Everyone has a bad first touch sometimes tbh, looking at the goals he scored his touch isn't that bad, not perfect but not bad. It's easy to make a compilation of a player doing something bad and acting like it happens all the time.

His first touch is mediocre, get over it.
Calm down man; yeah obviously it's something he can improve on, I've alluded to that in other threads. But I've been a massive fan for years now and the improvements he's shown in virtually every aspect of his game over the past 3/4 years have been brilliant. So I'm pretty sure this is an aspect of his game that he can also work on. But I mean, yeah, the drama on here about his first touch is just completely exaggerated and OTT.

I get the impression from your posts that you aren't a fan. That's fair enough, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea.

A few other forwards with a well known bad first touch I can think of. Walcott, Cascarino, Cole (Carlton), Kuyt, Bendtner.

All £75m forwards in their time :D

Seriously though, his first touch is a bit on the poor side, but if he bangs a goal in on his second it's irrelevant. Not every forward can have everything. Bergkamp probably had the best first touch I've seen in person on any player - did he ever score the amount of goals Lukaku has in a single PL season? I don't recall him being prolific, just majestic.

More than half of our team are not Utd standard.
SAF's team had players far superior to the current crop and that is the reason we have won so many PL trophies.

Pep Guardiola is good at bringing youth players through

(Only one I can think of is Pedro. That is giving them their first team senior debut)

We arguably have a more talented group now than Fergies last few seasons. They just had a whole lot more character and mental strength.

Disagree with this one. They're plucked out at a very young age and sent off to scrape the bare minimum education at club friendly schools and pack it in to play full time as soon as they possibly can. Maybe stupid is not the right word but other than the odd ones who pursue it in their spare time most are poorly educated.
