Given how many holes we have in our squad, we surely have to be looking at some of these in the summer.

Given every players costs a fortune these days if we can spend our budget on 3 players and fill in the rest with frees, loans and cheaper punts that's about as good as we can hope for.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/endendevertraege

Can't say I know too much about most of these. Obviously we've been linked with Rabiot which I think would make sense. Marcus Thuram is really the only striker of note. There's a couple of highly valued centre backs in Skriniar and Ndicka on the list.

How have De Vrij and Skriniar looked recently? Both seem to be available on a free according to that list and we’ve been extensively linked with them in the past. Could be good backup options that don’t eat into our budget too much. Apologies if they’re shit, I don’t watch much Italian football.

I’ve always thought skriniar is pretty decent, I’d say he’s better than lindelof. Not sure about the other one.

A free Skriniar and a reasonably priced Pavard from Munich could strengthen us at CB & RB and would allow us to clear out the chuckle brothers from CB and one of our RB’s, probably AwB. We could conceivably turn a profit out of that exchange.

I’m 99% certain Skriniar already signed a pre contract with PSG didn’t he ? If so he’s off the list, never really watched a lot of De Vrij but wasn’t he keeping De Ligt out of the Dutch national team ?

I’d obviously take Thuram and Rabiot on frees as they’re both an upgrade on what we have in Martial, McTominay, Fred and VDB but I didn’t know Bellerin was available on a free. I’ll be honest I’ve not seen a lot of him since he left Arsenal but weren’t Barca and a few others in for him last summer ?

He’s an attacking right back who’s good on the ball, played the majority of his career in England, strong, played under Wenger so tactically he’ll be good and at 28 should be in his prime years so could be a clever signing that goes under the radar.

Is Maddison available on a free this summer or am I just making that up in my head?

Tielemans is available on a free. Don’t particularly rate him but he can’t be worse than Mount

His contract expires summer 2024, but he will likely be available at a bargain price.

Dear god no. Bellerin is shite, there's a reason Arsenal were happy to get rid of one of their home grown players (and I think captain briefly too?).

I don’t know why we’re selling AWB. It’s obviously him out of the 2 FB we’re trying to get rid of because Dalot as signed a new deal but I thought it would make sense having 1 attacking RB and 1 defensive for when we come up against different opposition. AWB is the best 1 v 1 defender in the world and with us being in the CL next season surely it makes sense to keep him for when we come up against players like Vinicius. It’s good to have different style players. Dalot may be good going forward but he’s not as good defensively so unless we sign a RB who’s really good at both then I’d of kept AWB.

I think mount offers more going forward and he’s more creative. When he had that good season for Chelsea when they won the CL i am sure he got over 10 assist.

I agree, and it doesn’t make much sense to let AwB go if we’re signing an offensive full back like Frimpong. Pavard makes more sense if it is AwB going as he can play RB and CB, he adds height to the team and is useful on set pieces. Probably not my ideal right back, but he’s experienced and covers a lot of issues for us for not too much money if Bayern can’t agree a new contract with him.

Timber can cover those two positions too.

I think one thing people are forgetting with some of these free agents, especiallly the higher profile ones is the wages they could demand.

Rabiot for example sure he is on well over £100k a week at Juventus already and didnt his mum (agent) ruin ay transfer last summer demanding too higher wage. A lot of these free agents are in the position to ask for higher wages than they would get normally if they are wanred players that have ran a contract down.

Not only does this mean more of an outlay to bring in a player for four years than normal because there is no fee, it also means we have a squad of players on higher wages and often there is the complaint of us not being able to move players on due to the salaries they are on////This is even harder if they are players with little resale value, Eriksen being a prime example currently. Only signed last summer for free on a three year deal for £150k a week......and to me his legs are gone already, he offers little more than a Fernandes back up over the remainder of his contract and nobody is likely to take him off our hands f we wanted to sell him as he is on a big contract.

Think there is far too much emphasis on getting free players due to the possible transfer budget and limitation with players needed in one window over the long term plans for the squad.

There seems to be no discount offered on the big premiership players with contract ending next summer, yet we are heavily linked with the main three and all the free agents this summer.

Seeing the list of out of contract players this summer, there are some top players that are the wrong age, outside of that, the only ones stand out are:

Skriniar 28
Tielmans 26
Rabiot 28
Ndika 23
Lainer 26
Aouar 24

Skriniar sounds like he is off to PSG, personally he has never stood out as more than good to me and at that age and probably wage, would rather be spening £20m odd on someone like Bella Kotchap, similar with Rabiot and some younger SOuth AMerican players who woul dbe £15m.

Of the rest they are all good but not good enough, Tielmans actualyl looks about the best deal in terms of age, wage, premiership experience, ability.....but I dont think we should be in for him either

He’s regressed massively. I’ll be shocked if a CL club takes him.

Even for free as a backup option?
Yes because I think that he doesn't really have the profile for us.

He runs a lot, covers a lot of ground, stays in front of the defense, but he's not as technical as we should require. I think that one of our issues is starting from the back, with a poor De Gea and when Lisandro is there, his first pass should be to Casemiro or another midfielder that can drive forward. Ellyes is not a player to play low in front of our goal back of the game, let's say like Busquets, Xabi Alonso or Rodri. I think he's good in a 3 man midfield with intensity but 2 players in front of him.

In the national team we have him and Laidouni, two players that runs a lot, covers a lot of spaces, but when have to control the game against a low block we are struggling because neither of them can't find a good pass.

So I'd say that I'd rather keep Mc Tominay than having Ellyes to complete our squad, none that Scott is far better but I don't think Ellyes can improve much now.

And as he's free, I'd like him to stay in Bundesliga and maybe go to a better club like Frankfurt or Dortmund. I don't think "big" teams in France are interested so I'd advise him to stay in Gemrnay.

We could really do some smart business with some of those on the list (freebies and short term stop gap signings), to strengthen our squad and keep the environment competitive for places. This means we could recoup some money from sales and then focus on strengthening the 3-4 (GK, CF, CM 7 CB backup) key positions with our budget plus sales hopefully raising the rumored 100m to 160-200m if you include sales.

Rabiot, de Vrij, Kroos, Thuram, Tielemans, Gundogan (not happening) could all do a job and even the likes of Dzeko could come in for a year if we can't get Kane and sign someone younger like Holjund.

Pavard could be targeted at a reasonable fee (if we don't go for KMJ) and he can cover RB and CB (CB being his long term position). Seems some options out there but we're taking a while to start acting.

Considering that he played pretty well as the lone DM in a 4132 system in Köln where he was responsible for keeping and distributing the ball I think you give him too little credit in that regard.

In other news, Naby Keita seems to be in advanced talks with Werder Bremen. Really a big step back after Leipzig and Liverpool.

Bellerin is done at a high level, there's a reason Arsenal wanted rid and Barca were no longer interested. Injuries have robbed him off his only asset, his pace. He's very very average now.

That was playing almost in a front 3 in Tuchel's 3-4-3 though, as one of the free roaming #10s.

Dont think we should use that season as a baseline for his performance as a midfielder. A better comparison would be his time as a #8 under Lampard in a 4-3-3.

I'm not too convinced about either of them tbh.

I don’t really watch much of Chelsea to be honest so I’ve not really seen him play much I was just going off the stats in that season. He’s versatile at least so can play in a front 3 or a midfield 3. Think he’ll be better suited in the front 3 than Bruno who’s played there a few times this season. We should be going after Rabiot since he’s a free agent, he’ll be useful for us.

Gundogan anyone? Is it even possible?

Pay Mount a hefty sign on to sit his contract out and wait for him.

Sign Rabiot + others on a free , splash 100-130 on Kane/Osimhen.

Gundogan will join his old mates Jesus and Zinchenko at Arsenal. We definitely need to sign Rabiot, however don't see us going back for Kane. Can't recall any occasion where we ended interest and rekindled it. My gut feeling is we wouldn't pay the money for Osimhen either.
