There's only one way this can work. We need to work collectively. How about saying 'on' at the same time in 5 mins?

Fool proof.

What's wrong?

He's being shafted as a CB, they want him out and it is entirely plausible they've told the players to isolate him/demoralise him.

This is a club that is running away from a £17m commitment to him that he made out of concern for the club.
Biggest nonsense I've ever read.

There is only two credible sources you can trust. The rest is gossip or people (Laporte o Co) with their own agendas.
(Why give Twitter trolls attention?)

1. Frenkie de Jong or his agent
2. Erik ten Hag/John Murtough/Richard Arnold

Either FdJ/agent publicly declare his final decision (stay or go) or Ten Hag publicly end our interest and we start to look for alternatives. Otherwise things remains the same.

Eh, I was mostly just being facetious. But I am generally perplexed why the Spanish press is reporting that he needs to take a pay cut to stay or anyone is taking it seriously. As I understand it, he has a 4-year contract and he doesn't have to take any pay cut at all to stay.
The Spanish press probably know about as much as we do on this situation, which is to say not much.

At the moment I'd say we can't even really trust what de Jong says as crazy as it sounds. He's going to be advised to say stuff in the public eye to maximise his chances of getting Barca to pay out. If he says he wants to leave, Barca will jump on that, hence why I believe he keeps saying he'd like to stay.

When the issues are sorted, if he says he'd like to stay then I'd say he's being honest and the sorts, but if he comes out and says he's disgusted with his treatment and wants to leave then fantastic

Just feels done, doesn't it. Barca's smear campaign has ramped up
It's quite clear that Barca really want the transfer to happen, but ultimately, it's all down to the player.

Given the way Barca are acting, it must be tempting for De Jong to stick two fingers up to them and simply refuse any negotiated terms they offer him.

The Athletic article by Dermot had no new info except for the bit (De Jong did not have a particularly special relationship with Ten Hag when at Ajax), this was never reported before but I will expect it to be reliably sourced since it is the "The Athletic" reporting it.

The main themes are again Barcelona's side (financial issues, big salary, registering new players, etc...), and it does not seem there is anything coming out from De Jong of from his camp.

Well, I mean, he could just turn round to them and say "Not my problem my dudes, you gave me this contract, you honour it" swift middle finger to the face and walk out.

Not much Barca could do is there, besides make his life miserable in a World Cup year. I wonder if Barca would crack in that situation and just pay up and tell him flat out he's not wanted.

Just go ahead, you piece of shit.
See, folks. This is actually genius. He wanted off the Muppet Train but couldn't stand the embarrassment that would cause him, so he took their safer route and got banned.

Remember when De Jong was asked about United during the international break and he laughed and said something like. "No no no I can't say".

I've given up reading that club

They seem to need him gone, yet took the bastard on tour.

Most bizarre aspect of all of this for me is why so many players who could be playing for any other top club are so unbelievably desperate to be a Barcelona player even if they wont get registered, paid or play. Does everyone who is there on September 1st get to bed Shakira or something?

Since this turned into a crazy saga I’ve not posted much in here but what I get from all this is De Jong isn’t willing to take a pay cut otherwise he would have by now and Barca don’t want to pay what they believe De Jong isn’t owed until the coming season yet don’t want to pay that either so want to move him on as they have Busquets and Nico for that role as well as Pedri, Gavi and Kessie too.

Regardless of the briefs from Barca in Spain it’s clear that if De Jong didn’t want to join United then ETH would have been informed (most likely by De Jong himself seeing as they have a great relationship) much like with Timber and we’d have moved on as ETH wanted business done for pre season instead of this saga.

I’m sure in an ideal world De Jong would have wanted to stay at Barca as he was a Barca fan as a kid but then Beckham was a United fan, reality is no one would stay at a club they’re not wanted at and being forced out of for anything other than money. Thing is it isn’t an ideal world and Laporta is playing the politician where he’s saying publicly that De Jong is not for sale and they want him to stay yet agreeing a fee with us so they can paint De Jong as the money hungry bad guy.

If this wasn’t happening then I don’t believe for a second ETH would be pursuing De Jong still, Barca wouldn’t have agreed a fee with us and De Jong himself would have shot this down completely so the agreed fee would be rescinded by us. It’s simply a game of poker and reality is Barca either give De Jong an acceptable pay off or he’ll stay on the terms he’s on and it’ll feck Barca in regards to player registration, salary cap and financially in general but outside of terminating De Jong’s contract (which they won’t do as they’d have to pay him and recieve no transfer fee) Barca can’t force De Jong into anything.

I mean, if Frenkie takes a 50% pay cut I wouldn't bet against them still trying to sell him in the next few years. Just to really slap him in the face.

"So Frenkie, thanks for signing a new contract and letting us off all that money, much appreciated. You know how your transfer to United was held up by those deferred wages? Well now thats sorted you can go to United and we don't have to pay you a thing! Great eh! Off you pop!"
Is there anyone seriously suggesting he's even considering taking a pay cut? If he's staying he'll stay on his current contract (which Barca can't afford, so he'll be sold this summer).

I'm fairly sure that the problem Barca have is that they cannot afford to pay off De Jong's €17m deferred wages, but they also cannot afford to pay his full salary for the next season. The only two options that are financially possible for Barca are therefore:

1. De Jong transfers to an interested club (United) but gives up a large portion of his €17m deferred salary.

2. De Jong stays at Barca but takes a massive 50% pay cut.

The player is (understandably) balking at both of those options, hence the stand off.
