It depends on what formation we play and his position. ETH wants FDJ because he is capable of playing in the DM, CM and even AM positions. In games where we are playing against tough opposition, FDJ will be flanked by 2 sturdy CMs in Fred and McTominay. Otherwise it will be Bruno and Eriksen. Based on that, we can potentially reach 2nd or even 1st

2nd or 1st? Come on. If you think simply signing FDJ magically makes us better than City and Liverpool you're mental. 3rd would be an incredible achievement for this season

I still don't think Fabian Ruiz is that far below FDJ's level. Real Madrid are linked with him now and he has only 1 year left on his contract. I also think Corentin Tolisso, while being quite far below FDJ and Ruiz' abilities, is still significantly better than Fred, and in a World Cup year he might want a move where he can get more gametime than Bayern.
Tolisso's contract at Bayern had run out this summer and he has since signed back for Lyon.

If this deal doesn't go through then I hope folk don't go overboard and start with childish vitriol directed towards either of them. Both of them would rather stay in Barcelona. Even if Frenkie agreed to a move and it was scuppered because Mikky doesn't want to leave then it doesn't matter. Just because we want the move doesn't mean someone else has to maintain a stuff upper lip and just go with it.

Having said that I really hope he's a United player this season.
She really doesn't look the type to block a move for him if it's whats in his best interests to be honest.
I think she's swallow the negativity and just get on with it. New city = new opportunities, and i think she'd likely realise that - new market, new audience etc. She'll make the most of it as much as Frenkie will, if it happens. Just because a move doesn't look appealing at first, doesn't mean that i can't turn out to be a fantastic choice.

Still, i agree with you, i just hope people don't turn on them should this not happen

I think something happens this week but what position do we finish with ..
A-Man United with FDJ
B-Man United without FDJ.
A: 2nd-6th
B: 3rd-6th

I think he'd be a great addition to the team but I equally think he could be a flop because I don't trust buying from the biggest clubs in Europe.

I think that paying his salary arrears would be silly

It wouldn't be the craziest thing in the circumstances and given our needs.

Not a perfect comparison but it's not uncommon to negotiate a sign on to roughly equate to the value of unvested stock options when leaving a company. Can think of it as paying upfront for money the employee would receive down the line by staying at a company.

A- 3rd/4th
B - 5th/6th

This is accounting one of Spurs/Arsenal imploding half way through the season. Which is a pretty safe bet based on past experience.

Well you seem to have undergone a personality implant because pretty sure that you were one of those negative ninnies not do long ago

Yeah I was one of those you are absolutely right, clearly we lost a few positive voters as now down to 42.6% though.

Love your positivity - Come in here every so often with "Its happening 100%"

I believe its definitely happening also
It's going to happen. Theres nothing to suggest otherwise. The only negative crap is coming from Sport, who seem to have an Anti-United agenda at this moment in time.
Chelsea links aren't reported anywhere else, Bayern have ruled themselves out, yet Sport STILL report them as the most likely options. They're a mess

With him: 5th. Maybe 4th if we get lucky and other teams underperform. I don't think we have enough goals in the side for anything more.

Without him: 7th. Possibly 6th. For the same reasoning as above.

The midfield and attack in its current state isn't good enough for anything more than that.

Worry not lads, I’m 100% confident De Jong will be starting next to Maguire at CB on Sunday.

Just being on the bench for scouse showdown looks a huge task but would give us a huge psychological boost.

Whilst it obviously isn’t as black and white as that, I do think there is reason to be optimistic at United this season with the new manager that things will improve massively. However, our midfield is so bad that I think unless ETH is a miracle worker we have very little chance of top 4. If we can not only reinforce the midfield but bring in such a high level of quality, this will drastically change our chances IMO. Hence why I can see where you are coming from here.

Yeah still need to sort out other issues in first XI like RB, midfield partner for him, RW & ST (starter if Ronaldo leaves, backup if he stays)

Might change after seeing first few weeks of the season but right now my genuine thoughts are:

A- 5th but with a good chance of 4th if any big team slips up
B- 7th imo due to the improvements other clubs have made, including West Ham with the signing of Scamacca who I wanted Utd to sign
Do you really believe that with ten Hag we could still do worse than last year? He is a massive game-changer, and even without getting all "his players", will comfortably achieve top 4. Once he has more of his players, and the rest of the squad are trained in his methods I expect to be challenging for the title.

Ye agreed.

Basically, I'd be very confident of a top 4 finish if we sign De Jong (aslong as we can avoid lenthy injuries in attack)

Its more the fact De Jong is like 10x levels above any other plan B would be.

The tweet actually says plan B and them not being good enough.

I dont even think you can name me 1 midfielder who we could sign, anywhere near his quality for the price.
I think plan B would be Sangare and Ruiz for a similar price combined to de Jong, but you are using two players to achieve what you want out of de Jong. Please not Neves, Tielemans, Rice for £100m, or mcfred.

Other factors innit. City adjusting to Haaland and playing with a 9 again, minus Jesus, Sterling and Bernardo. That’s big. Jacky G isn’t hitting the heights and Majrez still looks their best player. Liverpool will be harder to best. Mane is a big miss for them but they have bought well and still have Salah. I don’t think we will struggle for top4 the way most do but maybe shooting for the title is a bit much at this point. An improvement from us and a slight drop off from city/Chelsea and 2/3 is doable I think. This manager is the real deal.

Yeah there's no chance of 2nd/1st and agree that 3rd would be over-achieving. I just don't see us having the consistency needed in Ten Hag's first season or a squad strong enough for that after one Summer transfer window.

Manchester United isn’t going to be a big destination for star players until they get back into CL. The pull the Spanish teams have for now will take some time to overcome. ETH has a ton of potential, look at how well Xavi has recruited players. If United can get a top 4 spot it’ll open up a lot for them. Obviously you need star players to help get there so it’s a bit of a catch 22
I would argue the pull the Spanish teams have now is the weakest it’s ever been. Yes they’ll still attract some stars due to the location and lifestyle but they certainly don’t have the pull they had 10+ years ago. The likes of Haaland and Mbappe would be playing there right now if they did. The truth is the money in the premier league has been out muscling La liga for a few years now. We have arguably the best 3/4 managers in the world now and a large chunk of the best players in the world. More than any other league.

I think it's going to take a couple of seasons before we get top 2, this season is going to be ten Hag settling things and finding out what works best etc, but going forward, i think he'll really push on with his vision

Got to agree here. There’s a reason why Madrid are signing younger players now, the money is in England and they can’t get the big stars to force lives anymore. Barca are just signing players for free and older stars.
Their pull is leagues below what it was

Big day, Mikkey Monday. She‘s gonna tell Frenkie it‘s okay to move. That look says it all. Bollocks.

I think you are right but I don’t see a man who lets things slide either just because he is settling in or whatever. He will absolutely expect a win every match and will push the team to achieve that. I think we will positively surprise a lot of people this season. Top 4 and a minor trophy is doable.

I dont see it with Sangare.

Looks like a good ball winner. But I actually think Fred is better on the ball. Phillips is a better player and he'll be bench warming at City. I think it would be an short sighted signing, as in two years time (you'd hope) - we wouldn't want to see Sangare in the starting 11.

Oh of course he will. This is a guy who demands perfection with every single game, and you can see when we mess up how much it pisses him off.
It's going to take time and i think that the squad and board know that. I can honestly see us sticking with ten Hag for the long haul this time. I think thats showing right away with the fact the board are willing to stick around for his top target

News is coming after the words of Joan Laporta.

Third lever activated - 25% of BarcaStudios for €100M.
Soon players will begin to register.

Which of Liverpool or City we displacing Loony?
Of the two I'd expect we'd replace Liverpool. It'd have to be a great season for us though. I just never count it out - I mean, we finished 2nd two seasons ago, too. That was with our frontline of Rashford, Greenwood and Cavani, and an incredibly in form Bruno. I don't think we'd definitely get 2nd (hence 2nd-6th) but I think a new signing should at the very least help, and if ETH puts this much faith in him then I'm inclined to believe he has potential to make a real difference. I still am very cautious with any optimism, though.

Mané is a massive loss to Liverpool, and Nunez much like any new player is an unknown as to whether he'll adapt fantastically or poorly. Meanwhile, Liverpool tend to be hurt by injuries more than City do, in my opinion. A problem with 1-2 of their key players could prove notable.

feck me it gets explained on every single page of this thread. According to the top sources on this, no he cannot because that was not how his new deal was restructured.
He needs to mutually terminate his contract with his club just like every other player and just like with any player leaving a lot of money on the table, he is demanding a settlement package. Club & player can’t agree on that settlement.

Hence why we’re here.
Ignore him, he’d find something to moan about in an empty room
