Being a negative horrible bastard, if we don't announce anything today can we assume that Barca will then be in no rush and this may drag on a while?

They’ve already agreed the basic fee, so I can’t see it dragging on too much. It doesn’t benefit anyone

Technically, yes, it would mean they are no longer pressured by La Liga. But if they want to buy anyone, they need to sell. Still, in that case they can drag it a little longer if they want.

It's best for everyone if it gets done today.

Yes, thank you. Finally someone who gets it. It's been doing my head in to a point where I'm planning to make topic about this in the general (if we actually end up signing Frenkie).

Robin van Persie, Louis van Gaal, Raimond van der Gouw. They're Dutch people with Dutch names. It's the fecking Belgians who would use a capital letter, like for Kevin De Bruyne. But Erik ten Hag is not Belgian, neither is Frenkie de Jong now is he.

SO PLEASE STOP USING feckING CAPITAL LETTERS IN THEIR NAMES INCORRECTLY. Reading that shit constantly makes me want to bang my head against my keyboard, although I understand it's a very difficult concept if you're not familiar with it, more so because you do use capital letters when you're only using their surname, like with Ten Hag.

Jesus I hope this gets done today. I don’t have the energy in me to have another Sancho saga.

I do hate transfers like this.. it just completely rips all of the excitement out of it.

Too much noise for this deal to not happen. Also while there is often a lot of bollocks the British press is definitely more reliable than the Spanish one when it comes to deals with PL clubs involved.

I am happy to get a proper midfielder in, although I am still not sure what the plan will be. Turn him into our CDM, play a more forward-focused double 6 with him and ??
Midfield 3 or a traditional 10?
I think he’s perfectly suited to play in a two alongside for instance McSauce with Bruno/Eriksen in front of them.

Although I’m hoping to see DvB get a proper chance, but it’s probably unrealistic to see us line up with DvB, FdJ and Bruno in the same team?

Who was the third midfielder with DvB and FdJ in Ajax under Ten Hag?

I wish we would do this to some of our players
I dunno, people would call that a toxic work environment anywhere else other than football.

PSG gave out a contract for a certain time and for a certain amount of money and through no fault of the players PSG no longer want to give them that amount of money.

Punishing Wijnaldum because they paid too much to Mbappe is just ridiculous in my book. Football is a small world and I hope this impacts their future transfer dealings.

Dont they call it constructive dismissal? Kevin Keegan got a bit of $$ from Newcastle for that.

Absolutely shambolic football club.

I imagine if these players have any drive of achieving more in football, they would be wanting out pronto.

Of course some of them would be happy to collect wages. Can’t blame them.

Demand for new keyboards in your neck of the woods will shoot up due to the very toit FdJ, his un-fat fahza, and EtH.

Haha, I do get what he means to be fair as someone who spent a while in the Netherlands.
The best comparison I can make is if all the posters in the McTominay thread were calling him Macktominay.

It just doesn’t look right

First in France it's illegal and PSG will be sanctioned if true, Antero Henrique tried that with Rabiot and lost. And Wijnaldum is for sale because he has been terrible not because Mbappé got a new contract.

Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
Exactly

Why are ManUtd.com not announcing deal agreed subject to medical if it's so close and a formality? That's iffy. They did it with other players. And are trying to promote this new app.

If we don't sign him soon he won't be able to go on the tour. And not having new signings on the tour is a disgrace. That's the whole reason you make signings to get them bedded into the group on a tour. Our poor Australian and Asian fans have to watch the likes of Maguire, Shaw, Rashford and McFred stinking the place up again when they don't deserve another chance after our worst season in living memory. They want to watch the exciting Evra 2.0 Malacia and "Press Resistant" De Jong conducting the play.

They have these magical things called aeroplanes, anyone signed at any time can go and join the tour. This isn’t the 1907 Ashes where travelling to an away game took 3 months.

I wouldn't say terrible, but did he really get a chance?

OT: Does FdJ really want to go to Man Utd? I mean, if you really want to the deal was already done. I will love to see him play for UTD..

Come on, you can say that about one player but it's a whole bunch of first team players and all at the same time. You have to admit they need to show some respect to FFP by saying, okay we gave Mbappe all of this and we'll find the money by getting these wages off our books.

There's probably some backroom agreements being made with UEFA as we speak. Don't think the Spanish clubs would stand for it otherwise.

Happy to wait for some reliable media company like the athletic to cover it and discuss later.

Not that negative of you honestly.

Barca are desperate and poor, we are desperate and rich.

No surprise that we are both trying very hard to get the better side of this.

No, I can say that about every single one of them. Draxler, Diallo, Kurzawa have been for sale for a while, Icardi is one of the reason Leonardo has been sacked, Gueye and Paredes have been poor contributors and PSG has tried to sell them for more than a year, the only new addition to that list is Wijnaldum.

Selling these players has nothing to do with FFP or Mbappé, they are a waste of space and money.

We signing this fecker or not? I’m trying to ignore this thread as always had my doubts due to his obvious reluctance to leave, despite their obvious desire to get rid.

The latest reports seem a bit conflicting again. Is he not due back in training on Monday with Barcelona?

I would be amazed if at some point in the past two months that Erik has not had a conversation with Frenkie and if he would be keen to be part of his project.

If we don't sign de Jong I'll cry. Literally cry. Into a barrel of tears that I've been building up over the last ten years. Obviously the barrel is empty at the moment because of evaporation and I sometimes get thirsty, but my point still stands.

With everything coming out at the club at the moment, all of the positive movement - and it's clear to everyone except the most cynical here that the management in place now is much better than the old regime - it's almost impossible to believe that we would have negotiated with Barcelona this much for so long without being certain that de Jong was coming. Unless Barcelona have decided to be wankers and have been stringing us along, but not even those cnuts would be that cnuty surely.

Someone tell me that he's coming to United. Someone hold me, or post a RAWK style poem or something...

Imagine if after all this, the league is just too physical and intense for him and he never gets going.

Love when people pop into the thread as if they don't know anything that's been going on this last week and keep pretending he doesn't want to leave and nothing has changed

There once was a lad named de Jong,
Who kept us all waiting quite long.
He wasn’t quite sure,
but we wanted him more
and the will of Ten Hag is quite strong.

Done dealío, Happy FdJ day yo!

I wonder if Barca can get some kind of guarantee signed by United which will allow them to declare the money received by EOD.

Like when a transfer runs past the deadline but they submit some forms to the FA allowing them to finish it off

Let's see. One test I'd apply is that no big club has ever? managed to offload that many expensive contracts (~40M / yr) in a single window.

In my book if they succeed, it means that they were forced to do so and had to adopt some unethical means. Spanish clubs are motivated to spin this, so I'm sure they'll get their journos to dig.
