Gattuso vs Fletcher

Fletcher.

I don't even think they are that similar. They both rely heavily on workrate, but Fletcher, for me, is the better footballer. And he's younger.

I agree with you.

Only matter of time before good old Fletch does something like this to Fergie.

I donno why but i never really liked Gattuso but have really taken to Fletcher over the last 3-4 years so its not really a contest for me. Fletcher hands down.

On ability aswell i think Fletcher is a better player, also a very humble human being

Gattuso in his prime was one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Most of Gattuso's reputation was built on how intimidating he could make himself look, snarling, screaming, etc. he was always an average footballer, but one with a good engine and a hard tackle.

Fletcher is a better, but low-key version if anything. You cant say he doesnt have character because Fletcher is almost always the best central midfielder on the pitch in big clashes. Character is something he has a lot of. But he doesnt express it with the same charisma that Gattuso does and therefore for Fletcher, he will build his reputation on his footballing ability alone. And that, he definately has more of than Gattuso.

Reminds you of a certain Liverpool player does it not?
Mascherano is slightly different player and a good defensive midfielder. Gattuso was a busy box-to-box right-sided midfielder who had a brilliant tackle which meant he could always do a defensive midfield role but he was always better roaming around. Bit like Essien.

Gattuso even at his best is like a yard dog, throw the ball out and he would fetch it back for you whilst our boy is technically more accomplished and can use the ball better.

Nevertheless, Gattuso on his day can easily have Fletcher for his dinner. He can also beat up Flecther in a streetfight.

Yep. He was extremely important to Milan because his tenacity made up for Pirlo's lack of it in the middle of the park. But he isnt that good a footballer. Tackling and charisma aside, average.

This.

Gattuso's mobility on the ball was questionable. Fletcher is far more useful for turning around and initiating attacks. The way he's started to pick out fifty yard passes , after having done a turning manoeuvre that Scholes would have been proud of, has made me very happy watching him. He also seems to know very well how to time a pass that is to initiate an attack.

When Gattuso was in his prime that him..but Fletcher now obviously.

Fletcher easily. Gattuso is one of the most overrated players. Especially in the UK. No idea why.

Two very similar players?

Who would I rather have?

:lol::lol:

Come lets stop fecking about, Gatuso is one the best DM's in the world.

He's something of a liability in a very weak Milan team. Ambrosini is probably better, now.

Still think Nesta's brilliant, too?

Not any more!

Gattuso is, to put it politely, crap right now. Without the legs Gattuso is reduced to his tackling only - his distribution and passing is not that good. Pirlo was the one doing all the distribution leaving Gattuso and Ambrosini to provide width and dynamism.

It was painful watching him the other day.

Even his first touch was off, which is just astounding for Ronaldinho considering he's got one of the best touches I have ever seen.

Yet played right midfield in all his best games, in his club's first choice lineup. Doesnt quite add up.

In fact it makes even less sense than those that go on about Davids being an amazing defensive midfielder when at his best he was playing on the left. Just because you're a tenacious tackler who competes for the ball doesnt make you a defensive midfielder, else Park isnt far off being one. Nor does it mean you would have been amazing playing as one.

Flether by a country mile.

Back in the day though, Gattuso was a necessary defensive engine for that Milan side. Interesting pedigree as well having played that role in Scotland. Never understood that as I should have thought there'd be plenty in that league that could fill the run and tackle role.

Also unsettling seeing him in all those incredibly bent underwear ads plastered all over Germany.

Don't think we'd have to worry about this with Fletcher.

Gattuso into his 30's now, Fletcher playing better than he ever has before, the latter is a wiser choice

Gattuso was the much better destructive player. Just gave you no time on the ball whatsoever, and never gave up on it. All the while kicking you but doing it cleverly enough to get away with it for the most part

He doesn't play on the wing. He plays on the right of Pirlo in a 4-3-2-1, and is free to get forward and make crosses but is more of a central player than anything.

I think there is not much between them even if you compare their primes. A lot of you will agree with me if you forget about Fletcher's first few seasons.

Fletcher can actually pass the ball (despite what the mighty Mozza says) but Gattuso is just all about running around stupidly and barking at his team mates and referee.
I've never been a fan of that type of player, as when they lose their legs they're just completely finished. They cannot adapt

Indeed. I can't believe people compared him(Gattuso) to Keano.

Keano was in terms of intelligence on another level to Gattuso. His hip injury and age transformed him from being the best CM in the world to a very good sort of DM.
Keano was still able to make decent passes and shoots, Gattuso like some said is really overrated in the UK because I guess he's sort of player that can be easily loved as he "gives" 100 %
I prefer a player with a little bit of a brain
