The main fault here is that they did it during a pandemic but I won't be outraged or handwringing over footballers not being able to keep it in their pants on international duty when we've gotten numeroud first hand accounts of players, from the same NT and some ex-United players no less, organizing orgies at the team hotel during international tournaments over the years
I’m not outraged either, I just think making a good first impression and settling in to the first team before you start ignoring the managers rules is a decent and respectful way of doing things, or you can think you’re too good for the rules, live for the bantz and get dropped, as he has been.
Plenty of time for his orgies elsewhere

Interesting how we look at players misdeeds based on their worth to the squad. If this was somebody like Jones or Lingard people would be baying for blood. But because it’s a talented kid who’s done well last season people are more forgiving.

He should be dropped from the United squad aswell and fined. ‘He’s just a kid’ isn’t an excuse. He’s a disgrace.

Horny boys who’ve recently discovered worldwide fame and recognition misbehave... they’re kids.

United will make it clear that he ought to have known better. Stupid FA couldn’t protect them of this when they allowed all sorts of hedonism in years gone by.

If you need to sink the sausage, and there’s a fit Icelandic bit that wants to receive it, then it gets sank. It’s just human nature.
Exactly!!

True. People were very angry when Lingard put a video of him having sex with a pillow on social media last summer.

Hope Ole is hard enough to punish him but also to protect him for the press. We need options in attack to keep him grounded.

It was strange that we prohibited him from giving interviews but in his first call-up England gave him such exposure.
Exactly. We can’t trust England to look after him.. just from this scenario on its own.

Joking aside. This reflects lack of discipline and poor judgement. Which is a worry in the greater scheme of things.

Imagine if you were a footballer. First England call-up. New to the set up. In a pandemic. Being told specifically to stay in your bubble.

And you go and do this.

It is either you are stupid/lack judgement.
Or you don’t respect authority.

Neither are good qualities. Deserves a real Fergie-esque bollocking.

I hate to bring class into this but footballers have the opportunity to move up the social ladder through a ridiculously well rewarded career. They often have a different mentality at the start of their careers (often due to their background) and have to have the awareness that they need to change this to change their future. Money alone is not enough. The mind needs to change.

Do non-English teams have this problem?
When [Irrelevant point] was 21 he drove his car while intoxicated into a wall at 70mph in a 30mph zone, killing a 22 year old passenger in the process.

Greenwood boinked a hot Icelandic girl.

I'll leave you to decide.

Silly feckers, kids will be kids but this day and age they should know better. Were never going to get away with it, which begs the question were they p*ssed? Because I know if it were me, I probably would be to make such a decision.

At least it was just 'girls' and not doing lines if coke off a hookers ass or a granny.

Im flabbergasted these two have fallen for this; but just goes to show that men do all sorts of uncontrollable things when they get horny.

If it was Phil Jones or Lingard it wouldn't have even made the front page tabloids

Also no I wouldn't have deemed them a disgrace either as I don't walk around on a moral high horse taller than the Shard thinking the world is black and white

I would think they were a little thick in the head in the moment thinking with their other head but I wouldn't desecrate their character or call for their banishment over it

Yeah while i dont disagree with the consequences of their actions I think even those of us who dont have that fame have made some seriously questionable decisions in our younger years. I know I have. Im just lucky to not have had press following my every movement

Think Lingard made plenty of the tabloids last summer.

meh, I doubt he checked the figures but Iceland is pretty close to free of the virus. Incredibly low risk especially considering the age groups involved. I’m not saying he should be punished but let’s calm down a bit!

Yes but at a period where there's a virus. One of the girls has Covid passes it onto the players, the players mix with other seniors / squad members. Multiple individuals in the team than have the virus. All originated from lustful desires. It's a risk to them and teammates they deserve a fine.

Look at the indiscretions of French players in the recent past. Not least Benzema being charged with conspiracy to blackmail his international team mate!

I'm very disappointed with the Icelandic girls in question.

And with @Snow - everyone knows everyone on that island of yours, how did you allow this to happen?

It's hardly the point whether they're infected or not. They put the entire squad at risk with their actions. If the girls hadn't immediately blabbed on social media about it, they'd have rejoined the squad and potentially passed the virus on to everybody. That's a pretty inexcusable lack of judgement and I'm not surprised they were sent home (and won't be if they receive further punishment from the FA).

I agree with you except the bold part, I am just worried FA might give them ban to set example.

I'm surprised by some of the answers. The issue is that groups have rules and each individual needs to respect them, you can't have some members believing that they are above them and it's even more important when you have to live with 30-40 other adults during a tournament, Greenwood and Foden showed that they are immature and that needs to be fixed. Now it's not the end of the world, the FA should sanction them and move on, United/City shouldn't be involved outside of having a serious talk with both players.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
This reminds me the night where M'Vila, Griezmann, Ben Yedder, Mavinga and Niang secretly left the U21 camp to go to a nightclub in Paris. They got sanctioned alright with more than a year long suspension from the FA.
This is far more serious than that too. I think I’m right in thinking if this story breaks 12 hours later and they’d already been in contact with other England players then the whole bubble will have been sabotaged and a new squad would need to be called up to play/or match could be void. People are using the fact they got with some Icelandic birds to overlook that they’ve completely disregarded the rules and put the entire squad at risk. They’ve also shown a total lack of respect to Southgate and if I was him I’d have them nowhere near the squad for quite some time. To think the rules don’t apply to them on their first call ups is just maddening.

Jesus wept. The comments on here
Silly thing to do, but understandable given their age.
Just means Greenwood, like Maguire and Pogba, will have extra rest period.
It's not understandable at all, and attitudes like yours is why they behave with such idiocy. There is a global pandemic, and so many adjustments and hard work has happened to create 'biosecure conditions' to allow these players to do what they love, which is play competitive football. And yet we then get these two idiots who are willing to risk the health and safety of the entire group, just because they felt horny.

Foden and Greenwood are both 'jewel in the crown' academy graduates for their clubs, whom have been educated in every facet of being a modern day footballer in English Premier League. Lack of judgement like this simply shouldn't happen. They have self created a shitstorm around themselves, which I doubt they are emotionally equipped to handle.

I'm not sure what disciplinary measures the clubs should take, but I hope it's swift and harsh and comes from England and their clubs. Let it be a very painful lesson

I mean its dumb and unprofessional but they're 18/20 years old. Hardly a sign of things to come
You’d think on their first England call up they’d know better though. Must be fecking stupid tbh.

Iceland isn't in the quarantine zone, why would they have to quarantine on return to the UK?

They have a 7 day moving average of 5 new cases in the entire country, the girls are more at risk from them than the other way round
We have our own rules. You quarantine for 5 days when you enter the country. England got an exception to this with the caveat being that they would be confined to their hotel. Obviously having someone from outside their squad enter the hotel room is breaking the rules.

So they broke the England rules and also the nation's rules which could and should mean further fines.

Yes it's not completely unsurprising that someone would break the rules in this manner but that doesn't mean it wasn't disappointing, stupid and should have consequences.

Far to many footballers breaking covid regulations. Very naive is a under statement, what the feck the lads thinking (( well we know what they was :D )) Southgate won't have them back now. Be interesting to see how long he keeps them out of the squad now.
