Can anyone think of a player in the past or now that has Mason's composure and finishing ability already? Haaland is one currently and one from the past is Brazilian Ronaldo.

Further up = more goals per finish (or, more accurately, per expected goal)
Further right = more finishes (or, more accurately, expected goals) per game

Mbappe finishes significantly more than Greenwood, but Greenwood is far deadlier with his finishes. Ideally you want to be high up, and to the right (lots of shots and lots of goals).
So Haaland is the ideal then? He is at the right hand top corner.

When Robbie Fowler burst on to the scene he was the best finisher I had seen in a long time however I think Mason is better.

Young Ronaldo (Brazil) is the best young player I have ever seen, Greenwood’s step overs and balance kinda remind me of Ronaldo but he was on another planet to anyone I have seen before or since.

Vardy. Surprised he’s never in the discussion. Scores all types of goals.
Greenwood definitely scores lovely goals. Will see with more game time if he is a great finisher.

I'd only have Kane ahead of him I think. Aguero when he's on it is probably the best, but he goes through hot and cold patches too often.

Ideally you'd want to have lots of shots and lots of goals without being a shot taking machine that also wastes a lot options and doesn't pick out the pass when its the better option, though. Not sure if Mbappe does that.

His finishing is just ridiculous. I can't wait to see what he adds to his game as he develops.
That will depend on the fate of the team. If we are successful then he can become a great. But United isn't a club where individuals shine when the team is struggling.

Vardy is an incredible finisher, if judging by this attribute only.

Yeah, young Brazilian Ronaldo was like nothing before or since, watching videos of him looks like it’s a computer game on some cheat mode, just pure force of nature he was.

Mason reminds me most of RVP although I didn’t see him play at Masons age, I expect Mason is ahead of where he was at the same age.

A few months ago I claimed he's the best finisher since Van Basten, can't say my opinion has changed.
He's not even in the top 20, and that's not because he isn't a phenomenal finisher, rather, some of the best finishers of all time have come and gone during that period.

Greenwood has a long way to go to be breaching that kind of company for finishing and will need an extensive catalogue of goals over seasons to be properly scrutinised for this attribute.

Up there with Van Nistelrooy as the best finisher to play in the first team in my 40 years of watching United

He has potential to be a world class striker. Seriously.

Shame he has the mentality of a 12 year old

Needs proper hands on management IMO. big challenge ahead for Ole...

Most of his finishings were so precise that left goalkeepers absolutely no chance at all to save it and some just stood there watching

He's going to get bigger, stronger, faster and probably a lot better, I hope he can match his ability with the stability needed to deal with his stardom. I also hope he loves United enough to stay here.

The thing I especially loved about his goal on Wednesday was how at no point did he check where the goal was. That split second to glance up could have cost him the chance but he was going away from goal, had a defender right on him but completely knew exactly where the goal was and where he wanted to put it.

In some ways you could even say, that it is Ole's first real test.

Some insane posts here. I'm a big fan of Greenwood but 'best since Van Basten', are you kidding me? Give it a couple of years. At the moment he isn't a better finisher than Kane, Vardy, Aguero or Salah, forget Van Basten and Ronaldo.

Robbie Fowler, Owen and Aguero were all comfortably better players at Greenwood's age.

Its weird how good thst finish was on his wrong foot and yet there isnt much chat about it because we are already so used to it and the conversation has been done to death.. And hes only 18

I don’t think this is accurate. Those players you mentioned are all currently better goal scorers but they aren’t actually as good at pure finishing. Salah for example is extremely wasteful and while he’s capable of scoring some beauties he scores lots of goals more because of his great movement and the pure amount of chances he gets. Greenwood currently still doesn’t get enough chances or involvement to be an elite goal scorer but when in front of goal there’s very few players in world football I’d rather have right now.

Th question is if you could have Greenwood or Salah face a one of one, who would you put your money on to score, easily Greenwood to my eye.

That’s his (slightly) stronger foot.

What's even better is that he's so good with both feet that he's conned you in to thinking he's right footed!

Disagree with this. I for one have seen enough to have only Kane in front of him in the PL at present. Neither Vardy nor Salah are better finishers than Greenwood. Aguero isn't the finisher he was either.

Why don't we let the kid grow up without ramping up the pressure to the nth degree, he hasn't even had a full season as a starter and people are calling him the best?

I agree that people are getting carried away here and I wanted to take issue with your last statement, but after looking at the raw stats you are right, not sure about comfortably better, but the two scousers put in better figures, especially Owen. At 18;

Robbie Fowler - 93/94 season - 34apps - 18g - 3ass
Michael Owen - 97/98 - 44apps - 23g - 6ass
Sergio Aguero - 06/07 - 36apps - 6g - 0ass
Greenwood - 19/20 - 51apps - 19g - 5ass

Not sure why as fans we need to turn this into a pissing contest about who’s the best, we should just let the lad develop and see how he’s doing in a couple of seasons.

That’s one way to see it, absolutely. Even better would be Haaland’s number of attempts with Greenwood’s efficiency ;-)

I agree that Mbappe’s conversion rate looks too low.

As he becomes a bigger part of the team, he will start taking more shots and this will reduce. More potshots; more shots from range. It is inevitable that this will happen.

He is also in the stage where he is still being underestimated. I think defenders will get tighter to him and stop giving him so much space to shoot.

He will score more goals but he will end up taking more shots.

The 'scrappy' goals will come with time and experience. Of course, when he has more games under his belt, he'll have that experience of being in the right place.

Also needs more game time through the middle. Thing about Greenwood is that we forget he plays out wide when comparing him to Fowler/Owen etc.

With Mason, if he gets 3 chances in a game, I'd expect him to slot all 3. That's pretty incredible for someone his age. Just needs to keep his head down, work hard and he'll be in with a pretty good chance of finishing his career as our all time top scorer.

At the moment, Son is the best finisher in the Premiership
Son actually can be quite erratic in his finishes. But his movement is excellent and enables him to be on the end of many chances.

But in terms of conversion rate I wouldn't be surprised if Greenwood scores better currently.
